Desert Hearts is THE movie that cheers me up. Each sentence in it talks about the search for truth in relationships. ...And Ammonite is soooo tender, profound, true. 🙂
We should have more lesbian films as they are special in every way. Thankfully, we can express our sexuality much more freely today, but in some countries, it is dangerous to "come out" due to fear of violence from family, strangers or the state.
@bubbly ms116 Bubbly -- I think I get what you're saying. As a lesbian in a country which makes this illegal, just don't hold hands in public, but be yourself when you get home.
@bubbly ms116 Bubbly, you'r an enlightened woman. But sadly there are other who refuse to understand or leave others alone. Being somewhere remote is one way around the problem.
Viola di mare is my all time favorite movie. I’m so glad someone mentioned it finally. No one ever does besides me. Lol. I have seen three out of 5. Good suggestions. Good video
To the stars Cracks Tell it the bees Summerland Viola Di Mare (the sea purple) Honorable mentions The world unseen Professor Marston & The wonder women
#1 on the list great movie... so many emotions... but the thing that stood out is truly their love... great on screen chemistry... And so loved tell it to the bees...
The World Unseen is a excellent movie. Lisa Ray speaks with her facial expressions like only the best actors can. She is also in I Can’t Think Straight and Four More Shots Please. I thoroughly enjoy your reviews please keep them coming. Season Greeting and a better 2021.
One of my favourites is The Night Watch (Sara Waters) Not because of its sapphic content but because my dad drove an ambulance during the blitz, while waiting for D-Day. It gave me a glimpse into what my Dad did during the war.
Not sure if it's already listed, but Entre Nous from 1983 is one of my favorite period films -- happy ending, and based on a true story (setting is just after WW2).
Thank you for this list! and the honourable mentions.... I would like to introduce to you one of the most beautiful and intense loves stories ever of two women... Aimee & Jaguar... if you have not seen it.... it is compelling, emotional, powerful and important. Please consider this film for your next top Lesbian period piece films.
I hate what the director did to Tell it to the Bees. The novel has no supernatural element and a beautiful, happy ending. The stunning original source was wasted (Anna Paquin and Holliday Grainger are stellar however).
A thousand times yes to this! I was LIVID when I saw what they did to the story. Why take such a beautiful book and ruin it?? I would NOT include it on this list.
My wife lovesssss Portrait of a lady on fire..i like subtle lesbian movies..But if i have to choose a period film it would be fingersmith...And i like very stupid movies like D.E.B.S and gray matters...you know..the stupid ones..
I watched 2 period dramas tonight The children’s hour and Cracks. Both have 💀 ending The children’s hour made my heart ache with all the sadness and sorrow and the Cracks made my head hurts with all the stress and anger. Last night I watched Mädchen in uniform I fell in love with a teacher😻 Well I just finished Cracks and I want to crack a teacher’s skull😤 I’m hyperventilating right now, I need to keep reminding myself that it’s just a fictional story💆🏻♀️ I’m getting too invested
Omg Cracks!! Yes!! I love this movie so much! Thank you for mentioning it in your video! I’m currently making a tribute video on this movie actually! ♥️
There is another really cool lesbian film called Sancharram. It might be considered a period piece, but it is set in Kerala India and is in Malayalam. It is hard to pick a favorite amongst so many good films.
Although not my favourite, there is a film I saw about 20+ years ago that is a period film from New Zealand called Desperate Remedies. Very camp, very strange but the fact i can still remember it all these years later, it must have made an impression. I don’t know of anyone else who has seen it.
@@jamesscholes6865More Beautiful for Having Been Broken / Disobedience with Rachel Weiss and Rachel McAdams / Room with Brie Larson / Carol with Cate Blanchett / Ammonite with Kate Winslet
Fingersmith is what got me so hooked on period dramas with lesbians lmao I have not been satisfied since 🥺 portrait was good but the ending messed me up Edit: I just watched To The Stars and damn it that hurt too
I thought you were going to mention "The Girl King," since you included a clip from it. I think that film was terribly misunderstood by people who don't understand what a pre-modern era class system was like.
Bound is a 1996 American neo-noir crime thriller film written and directed by the Wachowskis in their feature film directorial debut. Excellent film! Check it out.
Thank You for sharing. Can't quote choose a fab amongst all but Sea Purple is gorgeous as is Tell It to the Bees.. got to catch the rest.. Portrait stands out together with Carol though.. watched them multi times...
Hands down, The Handmaiden is my favorite lesbian period film.
Exactly
not even close to the worse, handmaiden is garbage, that movie is asian
both with its original Fingersmith are the best!
@@KeitumetseVincenciaKgaabi agreed
the novel too!
summerland remains my favorite for actually having a happy ending
Vita and Virginia is good too
My favorites are carol, tell it to the bees and portait of a lady on fire
me too
Can't think straight and Imagine you and me and loving Annabelle and kiss me....
oh tell it to the bees wrecked me
SAME
Tell it to the bees has a much nicer ending in the novel. Not sure how it would work cinematically
you're officially the watch mojo of lesbian shows 😂 I love all your "best of" videos
Speaking of Gemma Arterton, "Vita and Virginia" is another good sapphic period film.
Desert Hearts is THE movie that cheers me up. Each sentence in it talks about the search for truth in relationships. ...And Ammonite is soooo tender, profound, true. 🙂
100% Agree with you.🎯
I Was About to mention this,
When i saw your comment.
I am Italian and I didn't expect to find Viola di Mare, you make me happy ❤️
I cannot choose which is my absolute favourite, but I love Tell it to the bees, Tipping the velvet and Summertime. There are so many!
I really liked Summertime, but I just felt so let down by the ending, and by 'let down' I mean it didn't end the way I wanted it to 😂
@@EvelynDar I can totally understand ;)
And Elisa & Marcella
Tipping the velvet my favourite. Even read the book. And fingersmith too
@@EvelynDar "Picnic at Hanging Rock" also has a lesbian subtext in it. The character Sara
Even though you eliminated it, Ammonite had/has me mesmerized!

"The Hunger" love scene between catherine deneuve and Susan Sarandon.
Nice list My! My favorite "period " movie is still 2005 Fingersmith though and for newest ones I have a soft spot for Imagine me & you.
The German film "girls in uniform" from the 50th is also very good. It plays before the first worldwar.
I'll have to check it out, thanks for the rec!

Hi Dear🤗💖! I Am an Italian girl and I know "Purple Sea" pretty well🥰🇮🇹💖!!!! One of My favourite movies😉💖!!!!

Kent isn't a seaside town. It's a county, in England.
Love this video, so much better than the lesbian mojo ones. BTW Kent is a county not a town :)
Would be interested in your take on Desert Hearts, the first film I’d seen where both women were alive and NOT with a man.
Aimée und Jaguar
aimee & jaguar is the number one but most of lesbians even dont know this fascinating movie.
I really really enjoyed summerland.
Tell It To The Bees is an excellent film with brilliant casting
Not to be terribly smug, Kent is not a seaside town, it's a county, with lots of seaside towns in it.
Summerland 🤩 Alice is so gorgeous

Have you already watched Aimee and Jaguar, and the secret diaries of miss Anne lister ? They’re not the best ones, but they’re still great
Preferred the actual book's ending of "Tell it to the Bees." Also the book was not based in Scotland.
I'll watch anything with Eva Green.
