As someone who is not traditionally a fan of this era of drum corps and have never rooted for the Crusaders, this season is absolutely FIRE and the Crusaders give me BIG feelings. I think this could be a very special season for drum corps as a whole. The top 3 BlueCoats, Crusaders and Blue Devils are absolutely incredible with the top 6-7 really being in a league of their own.
I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again, as clean as this may be, I think the designers really dropped the ball on this one. A really unique idea that they really don’t do anything with. They’ve certainly added a little more throughout the season, but right now, their show doesn’t scream “glitch” other than the overt glitchy sounds at the beginning. I do like what they do with the different colors of pants, but I think there’s still more untapped potential of even that. There’s so much more that could be done with this idea, but nothing is really going on with it. I’m happy they’re doing so well, but I wish the design team was a little more creative beyond the surface level. The could’ve been another Cavies ‘06 were the idea taken in a different direction.
@anthonyhalstead3925 I’m not a designer, but if each of the members drill and music represented a function in a program, you could do a lot with that. Have the beginning of the show be startup, and the end be shutting down. At points throughout the show, each members drill and music could break down a little more (small glitches) leading to a climactic critical error and reboot. That would be the turning point of the show, and the small glitches in the program would remove themselves from the show. Rather than the pants only lining up in the ballad of the show and a little at the end, have the pants colors align at the beginning, get mixed up in the middle, have a reboot, then end with the members pants colors being lined up again. I also think the drill could reflect the theme a little more too. Excuse my word vomit, hopefully some of the ideas make sense. No shade to the corps though, the members are executing really well!
@arhopkins2000 yeah these are pretty good opinions, I was small minded in thinking the design was pretty high up there, but I like the idea of the whole corps being a machine and having glitches and fixing it at the end
and ik colin wrote for the best recent years cadets lines too, but since being at boston its obvious hes created a different voice for them than he gave the cadets, but this break i feel screams cadets i feel, from the visuals to the vocab theyre wearing maroon and gold in that moment
maybe it is just me missing the cadets or whatever, i know plenty of corps are putting in little cadets references in their shows- bac basses have the tilt cadets did, coats have the rollstep backwards march (and also the moment where the battery is put in the corner and comes in with rolls and stuff i think at least reminds me of cadets, maybe not intentional), troopers have a cadets horns up, and im sure there are others too
I do like this ending a lot more except that the pause is just way too long. I could do without all the record scratch sound effects in the show also and the "can you believe the music" voice samples. All of that stuff is just cringe. Otherwise, not a bad show.

Not this year with this show. Up until about 4:00 I might have agreed with you. After that, however . . . . meh.

Bleucoats show and blue devils shows are no where near incredible. Drill is absolutely terrible
