Don't forget that "The Traveler" sort of placed Wesley, the child prodigy who is to space travel what Mozart was to music, under Picard's care. His innate abilities were to be encouraged by Picard, but kept secret even from "the mother."
IIRC, Sheldon actually liked Wesley because a lot of his character traits are similar to Sheldon. The whole reason why he began hating Wheaton was because of him not showing up at a convention that Sheldon traveled hours to in order to get there.
The problem with Wesley is that he was, for the most early part of TNG, he was the solution to every problem. Fortunately, in Season 7 he was given an excellent episode in which he represented the true value of Federation when Picard was about to evict a bunch of natives from their planet for the Cardassians to take over; Wesley bravely stood up against Picard's order and eventually made Picard realize the error of his ways. (TNG S07E20, "Journey's End.")
And then he went to live with the weird alien pedophile that touched him as a little boy, and they lived happily ever after. The end. Except he was shown as an officer later in a deleted scene which makes no sense at all.

It was indeed the largest and strongest ship at the time it was built (so sometimes used for missions where this is required), but sent out with a mission of exploration. It housed families and that was the intent.

Spoilers This clip was taken from the episode 'Datalore'. In that episode the Enterprise crew found, assembled and activated Data's identical brother, Lore. However, Lore disabled Data and attempted to take his place as a Starfleet officer for his own nefarious reasons. Weasly was the only one to recognize that Lore was impersonating Data. The android laying on the floor when he says that line IS the real Data. So, yes. I do know of more than one albino android. In fact, I've seen three.
