    After making the video I discovered that my solution to mounting the Raspberry with brass stands does not work because the flat band cable connector is now too high and presses against the LCD display. With the help of viewer Carlton I mounted it now directly to the PCB. There are standoffs below where the screws can be mounted. My mistake! I did not see them when I made the video.
    The USB connectors are used for the Touch screen.

    I have a twelve year old nephew who would definitely appreciate this as a present, and I'm sure his parents will appreciate him getting this as a present too.

    Hello Andreas, regarding reviewing products you received free of charge I see no problem at all, even showing tools you use that have branding on them serving as free advertisement, if that's what you want to use and the content you want to produce.
    As long as you're honest about it that's fine. Of course maybe you don't want to do free ads but that's up to you really, I don't personally care, as long as you give your honest opinion when talking about things.
    But beware that some people seem to really dislike that and may call you a "sell out" for using the products and brands you like.

    I like the fact the raspi is interchangeable, you can use it with any SBC with similar GPIO ports, furthermore it could be done to integrate more devices by suplying adapter cable interfaces. It could be named Raspi AIO (All in One), because you can test almost everyting on this. Nice idea for beginners.

    I also think a barrel power plug in the side would be better instead of the micro USB plug on the board.

    • @Elecrow

      Hi, yes, the case can be closed with RPi installed inside. Also we will consider your suggestion, thank you for your feedback.

  • @CarltonDodd
    @CarltonDodd 6 лет назад +2

    Are there not standoffs under the panel? It looks like it's made for the screws to go through the Pi, through the panel, and into the standoffs mounted to the bottom of the case.
    Also, is that second (full size) USB plug for a touch interface, with the micro for supplying power to the Pi?
    These are just guesses, from what I could see in the video. So, please excuse any ignorance.

    • @AndreasSpiess
      @AndreasSpiess  6 лет назад +3

      Yes, you are right. I did not see them when the white PCB was assembled and afterwards I concentrated on mounting the RPI to the white PCB. After reading your comment I went back and mounted it as you proposed and it worked. Thank you!
      The big USB connector seems to be for the touch screen and according Elecrow the mini USB connector is for the Pi zero.

    It's hard to figure out who the target market is for this unit. As you said initially, it looks like the beautifully dainty case was designed with an 8-year old girl in mind, but I'm not sure there are a huge number of 8-year old girls who would be really interested in electronics (more power to them if they are though).

    I have no problem with you showing off some interesting products that you get for free, whilst staying true to your subscriber base. I love the concept of the CrowPi, and if slightly expensive, it may prove to be worth it if practical, unique, and of high quality. I realize that it isn't a laptop, but if you include the pi inside the box, how do you expect a child to tinker if not providing a keyboard or mouse (maybe the screen is touch?). Even so, the case should really have space for a keyboard and would be a oversight/design flaw in my opinion. One thing you fail to mention is the barrel input voltage, nor did you test it, which is a reviewer oversight - if you want to criticize the product and it in fact offers alternatives, you must test the alternatives. The reality is that Pi's work with that stupid usb supply, hence the user should have it readily available and I get the option provided, but as I see it, they did provide a barrel jack, but you failed to test it....

    • @AndreasSpiess
      @AndreasSpiess  6 лет назад

      Thank you for your feedback. Here my answers:
      1. The display is touch
      2. Maybe it is difficult to provide a keyboard for all the different countries in the world. But you have to add it to the cost because it is necessary.
      3. I did not know the specs of the barrel connector and I did not want to destroy this nice device. I hope they will provide the info with the finished product. And maybe they even change the power supply.
      4. Space for a decent keyboard would have more than doubled the size of the case. As I said, I do not like the small ones.

Besides that there are CrowPi intermediate kit equipped with RPi zero or RPi 3B+ for option and advanced kit equipped with RPi 3B+. So different versions available for different demands.

      Love your enthusiasm, but I'd rather see your ideas implemented as a family of experimentation boards, rather than a one-size-fits-all.
      Also: the RPi has a standardised form factor. Arduino as well, more or less, especially if you stick to the larger ones (Uno, Leonardo, Mega). The ESP however? That thing's got way too many mutually incompatible layouts to be able to build an experimentation kit around. Unless you wish to stick to a particular layout, and hope it'll still be available a year from now.

    Its a nice kit however not for the price ,I had a similar kit for systems engineering school back in the 70's,but the price of the parts is way less than the kit. The kit cost$242.00 the cost of all the parts is about $60.00 if you know how to shop,simply buy the parts(or check the junk box)glue them to a piece of plywood and use connector wires oh I forgot the 7 inch lcd@$26.00 so add a little more,add does the case close with the raspberry-pi attached,disconnecting the power every time is also a no no.And that timer countdown is really bad ,especially at the airport.

      That's nice, so keyboard & mouse is not mandatory.

      I did not check the virtual keyboard. Good comment.

      If not, give Crow a feedback…
      Also, they should install, Swift 4.1.1 for raspberry, could bridge the iPad (Swift) with the Pi, it's more an adventure, so junior don't get bored...

      ciao

    Hi Andreas, thank you very much for your detailed explanation about different subjects. If you don´t mind, I would like to suggest a subject for your next video. Energy Harvest. I saw some switches that does not requires battery and are able to send information thru wireless connection to control home devices. It would be great to understand how it works and develop a circuit to do that. I found LTC3588 on Aliexpress that I guess could be used in the project. Thank you once again for sharing your expertise.

      Here you are some self-powered switches as example
