Here’s what’s up, it is 2024 and it’s summer. Look outside and notice what you hear and see, most likely it’s nothing. Children do not do the same things as children did 40-50 years ago. It’s not just black children not playing baseball as much it’s children period. Children of today don’t come outside to play anymore. Other than organized adult supervised baseball fields are empty. There’s no non adult supervised sandlot baseball, no Strike-Em-Out, no 500, basketball courts that are brand new are empty an no non adult supervised sandlot football, thrown in the sport of hockey too. There was much more physical activity of different types that kids just don’t do anymore.
Baseball does have a much more difficult route to the professional level than other sports no doubt.

Baseball is that sport where you have no shortcut. The fundamentals are so important, you can't fake them. Natural talent will only get you so far, or your foot in the door/on the teams. Also, inner cities don't priortize the sport like they used to. I had friends that played on travel teams, much like you see basketball or soccer. Basketball & Football is where the money is.

@@michaelpowell9152 Kyler has the 6th highest contract in the league in terms of guaranteed money at $190 million. Baseball contracts are fully guaranteed. $190 million would be the 23rd largest contract in baseball. Juan Soto will almost certainly get over $500 million guaranteed this offseason, probably over $600 million. Baseball contracts are bigger at the top end of the market, but Kyler probably reasoned that he was more likely to gain a top contract as a #1 overall QB than by getting drafted by the A's at #9. Plenty of top 10 MLB draft picks never even make it to the majors.

We really needed Rob Parker for this topic. From what I've heard from some about African-Americans and baseball, MLB made a concerted effort back in the late 70s early 80s to draw down the percentage of AA players. The peak percentage of AA players came back in 1974 when 26% if the league was AA. We already know that when AA are 15-20% of anything they feel as if we have taken over. Remember in the 70s the NBA felt like they were getting too black. Some white fans of the NY Knicks had started to refer to the team as the N-wordbockers. For those who don't know Knicks is short for Knickerbockers. Maybe MLB was trying not to become an African-American league.

NO Baseball ACADEMIES in the USA like in Latin America. The MLB can fund academies in LA countries but not here in the US? Really, what is the problem? The commish & MLB could fund academies in all 50 states if THEY wanted to and or in black communities . The MLB does not want to and the powers to be are happy to keep the MLB the hue that it is predominantly . Hockey and MLB are kept the way they are to give the feel that they are sports for those who are non white. Please stop with the skill set, look at the Latin American players with African blood, they are definitely skilled. Look at all the past American born black players when in ‘81 that the percentage was the highest, those blacks were surely skilled enough to play baseball. Plus, the contracts are guaranteed in the MLB so that would benefit black players the most out of all sports. So, the benefits are there for more black players to play and participate in baseball.

One game in playoffs for baseball can take hours on end with not much happening. A coach can put in a left hander to pitch to one batter and then put in another to pitch to someone else. That’s happens regularly and in real time because of the throwing warmups and the coach walking to the mound it can take 20 minutes to face 2 batters. Baseball games are slow and long. The analytics revolution has removed a lot of the dynamism of the game (fewer balls in play, less action on the basepaths, more strikeouts and HRs, etc.). Baseball hasn’t been popular in the national consciousness since the steroid bubble got burst with McGwire, Sosa, and Bonds. Basketball and football are more popular and have lower barriers of entry. The pathway to big paydays for elite athletes is more direct in basketball than in baseball - play on an NBA roster at 19 and sign a lucrative extension at 22 or 23 without toiling in the minors. Being like Steph Curry or Anthony Edwards is more appealing than being the next Mookie Betts. Basketball is more easily consumed in highlights, shorts, and reels in the secondary social media market.

Baseball being slow cannot be the reason. Come on that's weak. The game has been played the same way when all the black stars were there. Is definitely interest. I just want my son to be constantly learning and exercising through sports. If the elementary soccer and football season wasn't running at the same time he would have definitely been doing soccer too. There ain't no black polarizing Stars. Even if it's only a couple they got to be smashing. Who's leading the MLB in steals right now? Who's the modern day Rickey Henderson or Vince Coleman?
