Malls are sort of falling out of favor these days. Used to be a large enclosed corridor with hundreds of stores. The big box stores and online retail have decimated them. Then stores started leaving and the malls became a hangout for teens, which didn't always work well for the customers. Huge shopping centers, big box stores and outlets seem to be the most popular today
Despite being a genius when it comes to his deconstructing of things like English and American society, he never went to college. In fact, he used to run away a lot and failed subjects in high school. He was even expelled in his first year.
I’ve heard this routine 100 times and it made me laugh every time because I agreed with him and still do 100%; I don’t know why but today listening to it I was fighting tears. And they weren’t tears of joy.😩
George's face is so full and round in this performance because he was in cancer treatment at the time. A common side effect of the medications he was on is having a "moon face." 🌝

In America a mall is enclosed, and the shops are all within the building, and you dont have to go outside to get from one to another. A shopping center has multiple store fronts but are not all inside one building.
In Australia a shopping centre is what you would call a mall. A mall here is a pedestrian mall, with a pedestrian street down the middle and shops on both sides.
I love George. I grew up watching him, and he was always my favorite comedian. I also like Denis Leary around that time, his No Cure for Cancer stand up was awesome live. Bill Burr is a current favorite. I also like Pete Davidson, but you either love him or hate him.
Early on you was asked about how he can remember such tight dialog. He WORKS at it. He is one of the most diligent comedians around. He worked hours at his craft every day, either writing or rehearsing. He has written several books that are entertaining; some are available on tape with him reading them.

A mall is a bunch of stores under one roof with a covered walkway in front of the stores. A shopping center is either one big store or a strip of stores with no roof over the walkway. Everything is outdoors. But, malls in America are going out of style. Only lonely people go to the malls anymore. It's like a ghost town now that we have online shopping. If gas was cheaper you might see an increase of people at the mall. During the holidays in December the malls are still full of people. Malls are slowly becoming the place where people used to hang out.

George Carlin called it! All you need to get into college is a pencil and the willingness to go into lifelong debt- Test scores, grades, IQ… naw, just sign your soul over all those other things don’t matter, literally! And look at all these low IQ professionals we have now, inept doctors, inept engineers, inept nurses, teachers…. If anything we should’ve made college harder to get into, only le crème o crème But, that wouldn’t benefit the college industry or banks or government programs, it would’ve just benefited society-
Very interesting and not at all surprising to hear it’s not just America like this. I’ve never traveled outside the US, so I can’t really form any kind of baseline opinion outside of reading what other countries are like in terms of a political landscape. And even then, I’m too skeptical of the sources to take anything as fact. Just not knowing which reporting to trust makes it hard to decipher the reality. Propaganda and misinformation is abundant because of the internet. It’s sad that it’s not shocking to hear first hand from someone living outside the us, but again, kind of just confirms that the same type of people have infiltrated government around the world. Greedy people who are only concerned with how much they can get, rather than people who genuinely want to make life better for citizens.
Carlin was truly unique. I can think of no other comedian who dared to call out America's consumer obession: "spending money they don't have on things they don't need." Only Carlin dared to call out how our economy works only for multobillion dollar global corporations. Today, a comedian is tagged "controversial" or "offensive" is they talk about race, feminism, or LGBT issues. But Carlin went after what I'd say is the most taboo cultural topic in America: our capitalist culture that says you can't buy enough worthless junk, and don't you dare ask why working class Americans are losing their pensions, are thousands of dollars in debt just to get a decent college education, and the minimum wage doesn't even keep up with inflation. Only Carlin dared ask! RIP George.
The only other stand-up along the lines of Carlin was Alan King who did routines speaking out about corporations, insurance companies, airlines, & was sued a few times because "the big guys" didn't like it the truth about themselves to be known.
Funny how he made MILLIONS just standing on a stage bashing the country that provided him the opportunity to make those ....and all he had to do was walk from one side if the stage to the other, holding a Microphone. Then if his performance was recorded ,,...he could sit back and make even MORE money selling his Albums, Tapes, CDs where people could hear his act that he DIDN'T EVEN have to repeat!
While he is spot on about "how things really are" you have to realize he is a classic antisocial personality with a criminal record. Many criminals feel bitter at the 'system". I had my own bitterness I had to work through after serving the military, getting injured/sick in the service, and then having the government Veteran's medical staff constantly verbally push for me to commit suicide as they did for numerous years. Just to get me out of their way. Otherwise he's funny as hell. Thanks!
I think he was funnier and more enjoyable in his younger years . His older years was more into fiery social commentary with contempt of life .. I do understand about the change of America as a very fit nation to extremely fat since the Nixon Administration back when Americas were in good shape..
Yeah, Americans are the number one “dumb” stereotype, but British are number two haha. I’m talking stereotypes, not saying either one is necessarily dumb.

I'll disagree with him being the greatest but he is absolutely one of the all time greats.
@@lazyblazer: Well, that’s why I added IMHO……he has never really ever been laugh out loud funny, but he makes you think and laugh, at the same time.
Who would you place in the top spot?
@@johncurtis7186 I completely agree. Imo a lot of the biggest and most successful comedians are certainly not the most talented on stage. As far as pure stand up goes I would put Chappelle, Pryor, Carlin, Hedburg, Patrice, Lois C.K, Burr, Murphy, Bernie and Attell as some of the guys at the top of my list.
To me there isn't really a clear cut #1 GOAT but if I had to pick I'd probably go with Chappelle.
@@lazyblazer : Chappelle is definitely in my top 5, and the others you mention, are definitely amongst the greats.
I’d also have to add Chris Rock, Daniel Tosh, and Gregg Giraldo to my list of favorites.
@@johncurtis7186 Rock and Tosh are up there for sure. I've never really seen much of Giraldo's material besides his roast stuff. RIP.
If you haven`t done any of Jim Jefferies stand-ups, you need to.. He`s in the same caliber as George, but with a manly Australian freespeaking working class perspective on things.. "Freedumb", "Religion", "God is drunk at a Party " is a good start..or "Gun Control" part 1+2...
George Carlin - The Trillion Daves
Please of course.
Ah yes, the UNEDUCATED, but still often funny, George Carlin.
George Carlin called it! All you need to get into college is a pencil and the willingness to go into lifelong debt-
Test scores, grades, IQ… naw, just sign your soul over all those other things don’t matter, literally!
And look at all these low IQ professionals we have now, inept doctors, inept engineers, inept nurses, teachers….
If anything we should’ve made college harder to get into, only le crème o crème
But, that wouldn’t benefit the college industry or banks or government programs, it would’ve just benefited society-
George Carlin is the OG TedTalk
You guys need to try Rodney Dangerfield!
As an American... not all of us are stupid. Just most of us 😅
03:30 it is peculiar our food supply indirectly kills so many millions of people & no one is outraged by this
It's very easy to dismiss an issue by saying it happens everywhere...
Our national average of debt is just under $6,000 a person, minus me, I have no debt. 😂😂
An average includes everyone, or you can't find the average. Lol
I'm surprised, I thought it was higher than that. 🤨
13:50 Not really no, mainly just the US and the UK 😅
@@carolhayar3037 thanks I'll check him out
George was really cynical towards the end of his life. True
SHopping malls are disappearing quickly, due to Americans doing much of their shopping online.
Thanks!
George Carlin, Idiocracy, and South Park are three things that are too real about America.
I think this was his last standup
I think he was funnier and more enjoyable in his younger years . His older years was more into fiery social commentary with contempt of life .. I do understand about the change of America as a very fit nation to extremely fat since the Nixon Administration back when Americas were in good shape..
cheers
Carlin is king.
Sounds like the UK to me...
Yeah, Americans are the number one “dumb” stereotype, but British are number two haha. I’m talking stereotypes, not saying either one is necessarily dumb.
george had a 165 IQ
Who is the chronic pauser?
