Hey Lee, great to see xda developers coming up with a blogpost regarding the installation and that too accompanied by your visual guidance in installing guidance. There might be some limitations for some games.. some games upon testing do run well by the way. Thanks for this video, great to see you so regular with videos. Update on crimson OS ; LXQT version of crimson OS was uploaded yesterday and will send u link to download for every edition.. Another update relates to the Crimson Desktop Environment or CrDE.. We plan to drop the idea for this very desktop as compatibility seems to be an issue along with certain other issues. We will fix those issues and reach out if we succeed. For now we have only 3 flavours - 1.) KDE (Overall a great performer on 4 GB and 8 GB pi models) 2.) XFCE (Runs overall great, but is a memory consumer) 3.) LXQT (Alternate To KDE but a lightweight editon, highly recommended)
I always learn a lot from your videos, and I love retro gaming. My daughter has a Pi5, and I think it's amazing. But I'm currently using a Pi400, I prefer it built into the keyboard, and I was hoping they would bring out a Pi5 version. Have you heard if they're going to release one in the near future, because I'll wait if that's the case. Many thanks, my friend.
Tip: in Terraria, you have to use the “frame skipping” option in the video settings. That way, the game will skip some frames to make the game playable, not to render all frames in real time (which Raspberries are not powerful enough for) like a 3D animation in blender. And for pure performance, also enable the “blocky” or retro lighting in the video settings too. Enjoy! 👌
in terraria activate the frame skip in the game settings, also deactivate the wind and tree animations, finish by changing the light colors to black and finishing to white (with all these modifications I think it was good enough to actually be playable)
Had interesting results with PI -OS got some good games running with steam then others working through copying the files of disc like cod 4 multiplayer would run at single digit fps but tends to crash
I've been having a lot of issues, it's required to get libc6-i386, however even if I try something like adding it to the architecture and then apt update, I still cannot get those packages on my rpi5.
Great video like always, i have i few of questions 1.- why ubuntu and not your versions of KDE? , 2.- is it secure twister os, many time no updates like the past for run games? thanks for your support!!!!
I don't know how to feel about Portal performances... Were the vulkan drivers working correctly ? Is Proton even using Vulkan on Ubunu Pi Edition ? Given how the Pi was struggling you should not have left Vertical Sync on and same for motion blur as these two options are expensive to run.
Given how the Pi would be known to struggle even before this particular effort was even started, this should have been done on an Intel platform that can easily be purchased used for the same $80 or less that the Pi cost. This is one of those "Geerling moments" where something is done "because it's there" as opposed to having any practical application in the real world.
It’s true, you are definitely better off using something that was designed to run X86/64. I just enjoy getting things running. Brotato ran great. @@terrydaktyllus1320

I get really poor performance in Portal even at lowest setting. Like 10 fps, dunno what is wrong. Is there a way some 3d acceleration setting could be inactive?

I appreciate that from your perspective this is one of those "because it's there" videos but in the real world there is absolutely no engineering reason to do this. The $80 that you pay for a Raspberry Pi 5 will easily buy you a used Lenovo, HP or Dell SFF PC on your favourite auction site that will have at least 4GB RAM with a 3rd or 4th generation Core i5 or i7 CPU in it that is going to run a lot more Steam games a lot better, even on on-board Intel graphics.
Nah ive got it running on both OS and the performance is the same. I saw some guy run Quake 3 on Raspi 3 with like 60-100 fps, but he used something called RPI-Vk driver. Supposedly its some low lvl driver for vulkan thats really fast. I only get like 10-20 fps in Quake 3 on my Raspi 5 and in the setup it says v3d only. Overall I think raspi 5 is poorly optimized for 3d gaming as it is, or I might be missing something. It should be a lot faster than a Raspberry pi 3
ive done this and its amazing and way easier however the form factor of an old computer vs the raspberry pi 5 is a big difference the pi is obviously much smaller than you could ever get from any sort of old laptop or computer
