You are such a good mama!! 😊 I was struggling with feeling pressure to schedule my 6 month old's nursing, and then I read a few days ago this post that totally changed my view on it. It pretty much just compared how when we are hungry or thirsty we can just go get a snack or drink and we don't think "can't eat yet because it hasn't been 3 hours" and it really put it in perspective for me. It's just stressful to worry about changing a schedule that you're happy with just because someone else says to.
You are so right 🙌🏽 I have a little 6 month old too and they just want to eat when they are hungry, just like us! I feel everyone puts a lot of pressure to have a schedule for baby, but I don’t think that everything needs to be like clockwork, each day is different.
@@lilchrissie1212 I completely agree! They go through so many milestones and cognitive developments that it's not realistic to expect them to follow a schedule through all of it. I like to keep a general timeframe in mind for naps and stuff, but I try to stay flexible and just puts his needs before things I don't *have* to do.
I have a 3 yo daughter and 5 month old son. We were told by our pediatrician that it is typical for boys to reach motor/physical milestones earlier and girls reach verbal milestones earlier. That has definitely been true for us so far too :)

I've been struggling with stress around BLW and we are just starting at 8 1/2 months to do a little more. But I feel a lot more comfortable right now doing a combo and I appreciate that you did some of this too before going full BLW!
I did the opposite with biting. Whenever my baby girl bit me I made no vocal reaction I just immediately unlatched her and stopped feeding her. It's been about 2 weeks since she started and in the past couple days she hasn't bitten me at all 🙌

I'm so happy I found your channel, Kayla! I have a seven month old baby boy... I am thinking about sleep training him because I am so tired of co sleeping. We taught him to go sleep by himself in his cot..but he usually wakes up around 3 hours later and I pull him into my bed and will wake so many times after that! I am desperate for some good sleep!

Regarding the biting while nursing - what you mentioned might be causing more biting. The best thing to do is try to not react or scream (some babies find this funny or amusing), and calmly say "Ouch, that hurts mama." and remove him from the breast. If you keep doing that consistently he will learn that if he bites the milk stops. If he happens to REALLY bite and clamp down, pull him into the breast towards you and he should unlatch (don't worry if his nose gets covered - he will unlatch for sure and pull his head back). Also pretty silly that your doc recommended breastfeeding on a schedule - that's not how breastfeeding works (scheduled feeding is for formula only). Good for you for feeding on demand and following his cues!! Bonus tip: the phrase "still nursing" has a bit of a negative connotation. I prefer to say "I'm CONTINUING to nurse." You are doing a great job mama! Keep it up :)
jes5icaP agree with you.... they will find it funny and do it more if you scream... I give a firm ‘no!’ to my 7 month old who’s now cutting his 5th tooth 😩 so there are top and bottom teeth that clamp down on me 😭 and after saying no, I will stop nursing for a few minutes and offer again...
The doctor clearly doesn’t understand breastfeeding 🤣 I feed on demand... if I only offered boob every 4 hours to my little man he would have screamed the house down 😂 keep up the good work with the nursing ☺️ I’ve had my mother in law ask if I was still feeding just because my little man has teeth through now 🤦🏻♀️ made me quite sad she asked that... because it made me think how awful would it be for him to be going through teething pain let alone not ever giving him boob again, just because he has teeth... he’s never taken a bottle, so that’s not an option for me x

Hey Kayla have you tried nursing Jackson as soon as he wakes up and then before his nap in the dark with the white noise still on , it may help with the biting as he will be more calm. I’ve noticed my son bites me when I nurse him in the daylight and he’s fully alert lol!
I love my almost 2 month old and don’t want to seem like I’m rushing his life along...but I can’t wait for him to sleep through the night! It’s going to be so much better for all of us to get more rest.

My daughter didn’t really consistently take long naps until around 9 1/2 months. She’s 11 1/2 months now and she takes 2 really good naps now thank the lord! 👏🏼🙏🏻😂 I truly believe it’s all developmental. When they take those short naps or can’t get back to sleep their brains can’t shut it off cause they are developing so much. My daughter still gets up at least once during the night but it’s usually for a quick cuddle which I so don’t mind:) but cheers to getting some sleep again! I feel like it gets better and better as time goes on. ❤️

My son’s naps improved drastically around 7 MO when I stopped using huckleberry and used actual age appropriate wake window; i never had to do crib hour
If you want longer crib stretches we found my son LOVES his crib aquarium, it straps to the side and he sits up and presses it on himself. Yes if he's turned it on he's not asleep but he will be happy and quiet for 20-30 min, which if he's up really early you can sleep another half hour and know he's safe and happy. And yes my son is more about physical skills then talking, apparently that's typical in boys I've been told 🤷

That's the issue I think most mom's have, they think it has to be all or nothing. I did combo feeding too, and my daughter isn't picky at all now. She just turned a year. I think it's all about balance, and mom's should do what they're comfortable with. Baby feeding doesn't have to be all baby led weaning, or all purees. Balance is key.

YES YOU CAN SAY THAT AGAIN! it’s so funny because my baby wasn’t the biggest fan of tummy time but for whatever reason, during diaper changes that’s when she suddenly became the biggest fan and wanted to move around and roll over lol 😂😂😂 I find that if I can distract her by occupying her hands with a toy, sometimes that makes it a little easier and keeps her in place just long enough to fasten a diaper on her 😅😅😅 best wishes to you, mama, I definitely know the struggle! ❤️ You’re doing amazing! 💕

Actually for Riley'a age it is very normal not to share and I have read somewhere that it is actually good for them bcz they define their things and teach them privacy somehow ...what I remembered from that is Between 2-6 years old it is normal not to share

Love the updates. My daughter was born 3 days after Jackson, FTM, so these updates help me feel like we are on track. My girl is pulling herself up to standing all the time. Doesn't crawl very well yet, looks kind of like a gorilla when she does on one foot, one knee, and both hands lol. I've been doing the teething wafers, but otherwise just purees. I'm still too scared to try anything else in terms of real food. Hopefully I can get over it soon.
How did you sleep train him? My daughter is 5 months and still wakes up at night? And her naps are only 30min if I’m lucky.

It's nice for Jackson to have some early alone time with you. How do you encourage Riley to share? Hey, he's sleeping through the night. When he gets more active, he may do longer naps. Well, in addition to a loud OUCH or NO when he bites your breast, you need to pull him away from the breast temporarily so he directly associates that the biting of the breast is going to get him removed from the milk supply and not just stay there to do it again. When you pull him away you can say, "No, don't bite Mama." He has to learn not to bite people anyway. Then put him back for the rest of his feed. He'll learn that, just as he will learn what shapes go into what holes with his shape toys. Overtired will ruin his chances or Riley's of getting to sleep easily because their brains really cannot handle it. It is not behavioral, but rather developmental. It is why kids can become hysterical when overtired. Crib hour is another version of quiet time. They have to be down and stay there. They have to learn to wait for you to go get them and it needs to be a consistent amount of time. It's a good sign that the toy remote control and some other things don't keep his attention because he doesn't have to use his brain and his creativity to play with them. You push a button, it does whatever it does, and that's it. So, it's a good sign that he is going for the more advanced toys or ones that challenge him. One good thing the Montessori Method does is to define pretty clearly the stages of development in the brains of little ones, so we know what to focus on when their brain is in 'prime time' for that sort of developmental learning. He feels confined in the bouncer. But knowing the phase of brain development he's in will help you choose appropriate toys for his stage of openness to learning that allow him to really work with them for ages and master all that he can master about them and use his imagination with them. He is fairly verbal; he makes a lot of sounds. At this point you can feed him anything but honey and if there's an allergic reaction you will know what caused it, because probably everything else he ate he had already been eating. I think, actually, sort of full feed breast-feeding time is around 20 minutes, so he's close to average. Anything over that is usually just sucking for comfort. If he's teething, you want him chomping and sucking on a cool teether unless he actually needs a milk feed. Two or three times a week for him to poop is fine, so long as he isn't having a difficult time getting them out that causes him pain. Or if he doesn't have enough water in his system to make them readily passable. Teething babies would make a run on rusks if they knew how to run down the aisle at the grocery to get them and then pay for them. They almost all love them. Screen time is a negative distraction at mealtime. Does he drink water at meals? If he hates being changed, maybe that will encourage him to potty-train sooner rather than later. Allergies to food do not take the form of dry patches. They are more red blotches or raised rashes. I had to laugh at Riley lying about sharing her toys with Jackson. She will have a huge shock at daycare or preschool. You coach her verbally so much about loving you or loving Jackson, etc., that she knows exactly what she's supposed to say, even when it isn't true. And she smiled through it. I had to laugh. I have a friend who says if they are all alive at the end of the day, you did well.

One other mommy vlogger I watch has a son who hates diaper changes too. She has a bowl of his favorite snack nearby (veggie straws, I think), and gives him one to keep him distracted long enough to change him! Hopefully you find a "hack" that works for you!

Try giving him a little snack while changing him. Like a few puffs. That worked well for me!
You said diaper size 2? My son is 7 months and wears size 4 and they are tight, esp luvs . and he wears size 12 m clothes. Either Jackson is really small or my son is really big.. Now im wondering if i need to cut back on his bottles.
Don’t cut back on his bottles. I feel like she must strictly go by the pounds listed on the diaper boxes for her kids sizing. Riley is in a size 4 from the last update and that’s mind blowing to me because she’s 2.5 years old. My son just turned two and he’s in a size 6 and 7 diaper. My daughter is 11.5 months and she wears a size 4 diaper. If they are tight, size up. I never go by the recommended sizes according to their weight. Every baby is different though.
All babies are different, you don't need to cut back on bottles unless there are other factors or signs of over feeding. My son is 7 months and in size 2 diapers and 6 month clothes but hes perfectly healthy. Some babies are larger . Size shouldn't be compared, only discussed between you and your pediatrician

I mean about a month ago at his 6m appt he weighed almost 21 lbs .. Doctor said 90 percentile but not to worry becsuse his length is also 90 percent but when hear that babies older than mine is like in a size 2 or 6-9 m clothes i sometimes feel like he may be too big! I bought 12 m pants for him and they are tight. Its sooo wierd. And i do know all diapers are sized diff too.. Never go by weight.. That's a joke honestly. But Your rite just like diapers sizes vary so do babies.. Im just a worried wart! :)
Its just crazy too me, i feel like size 2 diapers stopped fitting when he was 3 months old same with my other kids & hes my 4th boy .. I must make large babies. & my baby now isnt even fat he's just big. Weird.

Good morning, today I tried to be brave and give my 8 months baby finger food and it's hard emotionally very terrifying to watch him gagging... he was the happiest version of himself haha making mess all over the place but on the other hand I was closing my eyes to avoid watching him gagging and scared him... I gave up completely 😝

So he’s not getting up at all at night to eat/ change diaper?! My daughter is the same exact age as Jackson and she is still getting up twice a night :(
Every baby is different, it's totally normal for 8 month old babies to be up once a night to feed but maybe talk to your pediatrician for tips on how to drop that second feed. Also to avoid changes during the night go up a diaper size. You're doing great mama ☺️💛

ugh the clothing and diaper changes are such a struggle right now. FTM here my little guy is 4 weeks younger than Jackson. I’m glad I’m not the only mother that dreads changing my babe😓
