  • The United Kingdom has begun moving some asylum seekers onto a large residential barge on its southern coast, as part of plans to use cheaper alternatives to hotels as temporary accommodation while asylum claims are processed.
The government says it wants to limit the pull factors attracting asylum seekers to Britain, where more than 50,000 are currently living in hotels after they made the final part of their journey in small dinghies across the English Channel.
    Al Jazeera’s Harry Fawcett reports.

We want to see a report on how Qatar try to help migrants, thank you

  • @caver38

NGOs and other groups are more concerned about unauthorised migrants than UK citizens , thousands if not millions of whom are living in poverty , and NGOs should be under investigation , especially their funding

  • @fredcarson2791

Have any of those 'asylum seekers' thought anything about the humanitarian needs of the British people? No, of course not.

  • @pheart2381

So it is ok for British students to live like that, but not illegal immigrants? The rooms look fairly decent considering its free!

It makes perfect sense. Humanitarian concerns? Which ones exactly? Until now "asylum seekers" were given luxury accommodations in hotels and such places, holding all the places tourists would go. When tourists can't come, they can't visit British places and spend money. So the British loose income from tourism and on top of that pay insane amounts of money for these "asylum seekers" free luxury vacation. If the UK were really that insanely rich one wouldn't care, but there are just as well children in the UK suffering from food insecurity. Humanitarian concerns? No, I don't think that's the issue. Why in needs to be a boat is a little strange, but I guess they got a good deal with it.

Great. Now tow the barge out to sea and let the Royal Navy use it for target practice.

This ship is a flouting prison for immigrants. Africa needs to unite and take back all their people.

  • @TeresaJ-rw3uw

It's time for rich Arab countries to step up and take in these migrants. After all, culturally, they have a lot more in common. Stop the overwhelming amounts arriving in European countries and expecting those countries to take the brunt. We in the west already have problems with housing and looking after our own.
