I like what Green Day did here. They wanted to change their direction a bit to see if they'd like it, so instead of taking a risk and releasing Cigarettes and Valentines under Green Day they created a different band with some other people, and keep their identities (or tried at least) hidden whilst changing the album name to something else (Money Money 2020). Pretty clever of them.
