Audio Tip: sometimes the volume of the music may make it harder to hear your voice, or otherwise clutter it. To circumvent this you have to manually lower the volume of everything else when speaking, sadly if done well no one will notice it.

Every single year, we got new hardware and software that essentially turned last-year's flagship models obsolete, and games that utilized the new tech kept popping out like mushrooms. Even on the console side, you can compare MGS1 (1998) to the MGS2 (2001), or Silent Hill (1999) to Silent Hill 2 (2001). The difference's staggering, although more understandable, seeing how consoles are locked to their specs for their entire lifespan.
So in your playthrough, did you get a super seizure inducing section when you have to leave on the conveyor belts in processing? I had that flashing the entire time until I was underwater, then I came back up and it continued. I was praying to god that didnt continue throughout my playthrough and thankfully it didnt.

yeh same, i originally pirated this as a kid back in the day thinking it was better than the goldsrc original, so this was technically my first exposure to the half life series.
I love that source was changed so that one single sitting scientist doesn't use the clip brush 32 units above the chair as a reference and just sits on it
The only reason why I used to play HL:S was because the Barney/Scientist pathfinding was better and you could spawn as many of them as you wanted anywhere without the game crashing.
I used to play it cuz it had ragdoll physics lmao. I grew up playing the PS2 port of Half-Life which was on GldSrc and it wasn't until Freeman's Mind that I was made aware of Half-Life Source's existence.
I played it mostly because of the console and how cheats and other commands work easier. I'm happy its a thing or we wouldn't be able to have all the half life 1 goods in gmod
Yeah, but the quirks of GoldSource are what keep me with it. Like only being able to spawn NPCs that have at least one iteration pre-existing in the current map, and the humongous amount of finicky movement shenanigans.

Did you know, the version that Ross Scott used for his Freeman's Mind series was made on the old engine, which had significantly less bugs and was overall much more pleasant to play (due to it being less broken)? Yeah, and what this mod essentially does is fix the game as much as it can to get HL:S back to the condition it was before Steam Pipe update. Not too shabby, might I add...
by the thumbnail I thought it was literally a mod where there are no enemies and that you had to go around cleaning areas of the game with a spray bottle and cloth until the textures turn from muddy and old to a bit HD looking. Half life Janitor

The thing i really found weird about HL:S is that the gib sound won't play at all and the bouncing sound is like plastic, everyone in this universe are toy soldiers or something.
HL:S was always a rather weird idea. From what I recall it disappointed fans expecting more from it, it disappointed people expecting the game to show off the power of the Source engine (it came out a few months before HL2), and a lot of fans of the original simply didn't care for the Source "enhancements." Nonetheless, it does have its supporters and it's good to see it being fixed by them if not by Valve.

I was not expecting to hear DMC1 music in a half life video. Took me a hot minute to figure out where I'd heard that track from in the beginning of the video.

Congrats on getting an alg hit with this one. Really good "first" video. I recommend that, even if you stay at 720p60, you look into pumping up the visual quality, by increasing your capture and export bitrate and forcing some higher grade anti-aliasing. Your mouse movements are already pretty calm and smooth (for the most part), but that is another aspect where you can make the viewer more comfortable. Bunny-hopping in a vent and flick turns don't translate too well if you're watching someone else doing them. Best of luck for your next video, I'm cheering for you.

I am of a rare breed that played Half Life: Source before I played the original. I genuinely do not remember it being this buggy, the only thing I noticed on my first playthrough was the surface tension skybox.
Same. I don't recall it being a mess either, all I remember was thinking 'oh cool Half-Life with ragdoll physics' at the time. Finding out about all these glitches after so long is almost enlightening lol and as the icing on the cake I was looking for patches for it just the other day. I'm glad this was recommended to me.

It's nice to see someone implementing these fixes, but I still think there are other problems in the game that are not actually glitches but are actually intentional changes, like the weird random vertical recoil that they added to the MP5 for example
I have used it and I'm fine with it since Black Mesa is a fan made reimagining of the game, more than a remake. Half-Life Source is an official port of the game to a new engine and it's just stupid that they changed the functioning of things in a port of the original game.
In a weird round-about way, I think Half-Life: Source being broken is actually the charm of it, rather than being just another port of Half-Life. It's so broken that it's humorous! Nice to see community-made fixes though!

You might have played the game before the updates made to the engine. The initial version of HL Source was less buggy.
