If you ride a dirt bike and bike and want to go fast on a track, a “clutch “””kick”””” is often used lol. Third gear is usually too fast for those tight tight corners and the clutches are literally made to slip so…
In sim racing especially in Assetto Corsa, I mostly just do circuit racing in historical cars like old GTs and prototypes from the 60s - 90s, but it’s good to be able to be in full control of the car in any situation and know how to handle it. Great video!
Loved today’s video! You did a great job of describing the usage and ability of the clutch. Describing the front end as a fulcrum point for the rear really put it into perspective. I’ve been using this technique myself and have only ever come across one issue. Lack of steering angle to make up for the oversteer. Obviously, in a drift build car with ample angle, this isn’t an issue. However, lately, thanks to you, I’ve been enjoying touge racing with my buddies. Trying to get around the course as fast as possible, drifting is implied, hence my use of an 86. I love it’s gearing and lack of grip when needed. It’s setup so perfectly for the course, other than the stock steering angle. Once the tires begin sliding, I start to counter steer. The issue with this is that I do one of two things. Either I don’t counter steer enough and begin the spin, or I counter too much and the car snaps in the other direction. I’d love some help trying to get around this, thanks!
Sounds about right, actually. I’ve been finding it hard to focus on all of the things at once. Modulating throttle, counter steering, shifting, clutch and braking habits, too. I think that might be my issue, you’re right. I think I may just be on the throttle more than I should be, haha! Thank you! 😅
I find the AE86 is actually quite hard to drift compared to the GT86 for example. Like you said, it is fast to spin so you often aren't fast enough to counter steer, so naturally you try to counter steer sooner which instead results in you overcorrecting and spinning out the other direction. Like TRSB said, it's probably all in the throttle which is something I'm trying to work on.
These video's are great and are worth so much to me. Its easy to understand and fun to listen to. Ive learned so much from you. Keep up the great work!
since there is no wear simulation on the clutch, you can gradually release the clutch when you need more power on straight, making it act a bit like CVT.
I've noticed on games where it allows me to use the clutch freely i tap my clutch out of slow corners out of instinct Never knew it was part of the clutch kick method
So grateful for your series TSRB! I would also like to suggest listing the soundtrack you use for your videos. Some of us are both drifters and composers!
I still use the clutch kick but in my car I can just tap the accelerater to kick the car out but for control I clutch kick. But also my car was tuned to drift a go-kart track so you can imagine the torque it would have. Pro drift car that was tuned for a tiny go kart track. If you wanna see it. I have a short clip of it on my channel
this is your most useful video, if only I had a manual car. wait, if only I had a car. wait, no, of only I had a license and could afford a car. wait, if only i was older🗿
With this video, I wonder how the guy in Initial D with that evo go insanely fast in the hairpins of Irohazaka. Edit: Is clutch kick only for RWD? Does it work for AWD or FWD?
I’m sure you get this a lot but are you able to drive real cars this well as well? I feel like it’d transfer well, and if I got a racing sim would it transfer over as practice for my real car?
Sim are actually harder. The only thing you have to get used to going from sims to irl is that all of the 'force feedback' is delivered in terms of g-force, through the seat. Other than that, most of it does carry over. But, sim racing and irl driving are still two totally separate muscle memories, so you shouldn't throw yourself into the deep end trying to drift irl and take it slow.
i am pretty sure it's not good for your clutch and probably not good for the transmission either but in games and on professional cars like in formula drift where the clutches are made to take a beating, but i'd imagine it also wouldn't completely destroy your entire drivetrain if you were to do it a few times

It's hard to say without actually seeing it but it sounds like you might be countersteering enough but are inputting too much throttle?

Is clutch kick only for RWD? Does it work for AWD or FWD?
i use it when offroading in my awd impreza, works pretty much the same kinda way. idk bout fwd tho
no it's not just for RWD, clutch kick is like doing a burnout, any manual car can do it.
If you do it on a fwd car it wont have the same effect, you will understeer instead of oversteer
Thank
May I get the name of the background song?
Hey man, would you mind sharing your drum n beat playlist?
How needed is a clutch?
I've understeered into a guardrail IRL .
Does this only apply to RWD cars?
How about doing touge races and recording them it could be entertaining to watch.

Like i on a touge use alot of handbrake i dont know how to clutch kick ;v;
Can I use clutch kick with high speeds
It depends on how many revs you have left. High revs, no. Low to medium revs, yes.
epic
What map?
but clutch kicking hurts the drivetrain like shift locking right? its not the proper way to drift ive heard
i am pretty sure it's not good for your clutch and probably not good for the transmission either but in games and on professional cars like in formula drift where the clutches are made to take a beating, but i'd imagine it also wouldn't completely destroy your entire drivetrain if you were to do it a few times
In Motorsport where top fuel dragsters destroy their own engines in a few seconds, as long as it makes it past the finish line, you can do it.
You start your doughnuts by kicking the clutch? Like while you're moving?
