It's amazing to me how the same choreography can look so different on other dancers, depending on their phrasing and what they accentuate with their own personalities. I appreciate being able to see them dance side by side. Thanks for sharing this!
To be fair and square both dancers are incredible and just perfect, but for me, Marianela Nunez's musicality, which makes her the best of the best, and her grace and elegance is unmatched and unreviled. I couldn't take my eyes off of her. She is above all...
@@sophiebowman456 On the video, I just loved the moment after she's been poisoned and is accusing Gamzatti: "You!!!! Yes, you!!!!" Likewise the thing at the end of that pdq in the last act where the "little girl" shows up with the flower basket and all but shoves it in Gamzati's face. Love this production!
The big jumps and the fast turns cant save a bravado dancer , this choreography test the technique of the most refined ballerina . In this chorography every move is slowed down to snail pace and makes it impossible to hide flaws from a trained eye . Cynthia Gregory I believe was first cast to dance in Makarova's La Bayadare "Gamzatti" , but it eventually for some reason it went to Cynthia Harvey . I love Cynthia Harvey and took many class's with her. However I would have loved to see Gregory's version. To this day there are very very few ballerinas that have the same regal presence on stage as Cynthia Gregory for me , notwithstanding Sylvie Guillem , and the Bolshoi's Maria Alexandrova . Nunez is unrivalled of all the Gamzati's I have seen .
both great... and it really comes down to taste as all art is subjective. I love them both for different reasons and would happily see both if I had paid ( I am selective when I go to the theatre to see the casting 1st LoL ) In my humble opinion Nuñez is more measured and controlled and Osipova seems to have a penchant for changing dynamics. I often find her she can "messy" when going for extreme speed for example but, to an audience that is not counting on perfect positioning, dynamics are often what makes a performance exciting! Sooooo there are my 2 cents I love them both ... with a wee bit of a preference for Nuñez.... but that is me. :-)
I enjoy when you do them separate. The side by side hurts my brain. Plus the both deserve my entire attention. Love you channel though. Just feedback not criticism. I’ve viewed many of your videos again and again. Thank you 🙏 🩰❤️🎼🎶
The fluidity and dramatic edge in Marianela’s dancing used to haunt me when I first saw her in this variation. As much as I love Natasha and her powerful dancing, this variation is not hers. There’s tension in her shoulder and neck so, epaulement is not there
Osipova, who I usually love, isn't great here. Is it sloppiness? Her movement isn't extended, her arabesque penche is tight & low, & she doesn't pick up her legs. She looks strained & is breathing heavily. Her pointe shoes look dead. Marianela, on the other hand, is beyond luscious. It's like she is constantly threading an exquisite needle. Marianella is regal, yearning, and effortless.
@Brenda Anne Du Faur: 'strained' is a great word to describe Osipova's performance here. She did not dance with her usual extension and interpretation. Across this past year, I have become a great fan of Nunez and loved her dancing here.
I think osipova may have been very tired for a while, I know she had to cancel ballet for poor health reasons at the beginning of 2020, I saw it in her Instagram.
Bravo! Mariela Nuñez... Bravo! Osipova...ambas excelentes .. pero NUÑEZ un ejemplo para muchas futuras bailarinas Argentinas que están lejos de tener una posibilidad en el mundo... y sueñan con su grandeza.
Thank you for this comparison!! First of all, the costume and music are beautiful. Both dancers have great techniques and talent, of course. Even though there were differences, it was a pleasure to.watch Natasha and Nela who seemed to be more refined. ❤❤❤
N.Osipova has wonderful jumping skills to me. HOWEVER..."Sylvie Guillem" is THE ALL time INCOMPARABLE ballerina (imo)!!! There are certainly MANY others on the rise...yet she (S.G) possesses a certain unmatched "je ne sais quoI" that none other can quite grasp. It's consistent and uncanny to me. She BREATHES BALLET. I see that same certain quality present in M.Nunez, Iana Salenko, and Alina Cojucoru for sure. I STILL believe the Russians (particularly The Vaganova & Bolshoi trained dancers) are the MASTERS of the art of ballet.
I love Natalia Osipova is the best ballerina in the last times for thecnique, but also for her capacity to be complitetly herself while dancing. Ilove Nunez, Zakharova too,thy are great ballerias. SIlvie Guilleme,in my opinion, is absolutely unique. Look at hear while dancing ,and you'll agree with me,I ' m sure. The same, enspecially as Giuliette, was for Alessandra Ferri
Wow, Nathalia is awesome but Marianela is better at this variation she is very flexible and sharp. On the other hand Nathalia spacing and expression are excellent.Great job you two!!!
Núñez without a doubt my favourite Gamzatti and Osipova without a doubt my favourite Nikiya I saw them in that configuration at the ROH and it was just spectacular ... I was wayyy less impressed the other way around
This is the one time I prefer Nunez to Osipova. I usually prefer Osipova's attack and characterization, in Nikiya/Gamzatti, Swan Lake, Giselle, Kitri... But this time, there's something about Nunez's movement that fits this music better for me.
Esos ojos hablan!!

@@yoanadineva4824 absolutely not. Osipova ignores musicality and artistry to do as she pleases, or for the sake of tricks, very regularly. And comparing her technique to the one of Nunez is blasphemous. She's not in the same league as Nunez, but alas, very few are.
Osipova est une très grande danseuse, sa technique est irréprochable mais voilà Nunez est d’une finesse, d’une élégance, elle transpire l’émotion du personnage. Elle est imprégnée de son rôle. Sa présence est incomparable.
I wish Natalia controlled her pirouettes more, but she seems to strive for athleticism rather than musicality. Her speed and strength are amazing, but I don't think they're suitable for every situation. Here, for example, we have this slow, solemn music and there she is, spinning at the speed of light, with this gymnic arm placement and turned in hips lmao. Darcey's still the best in this variation, imo
I've seen all of both productions, and I was really looking forward to seeing Osipova as Gamzatti since it fits her usually superlative technique. And I have to admit, I wondered if she was performing either ill or injured. Both here and in the engagement scene, she seemed to be putting enough force into her turn preparations to do her usual zillions of revolutions but then wasn't enough "on her leg" to get in more than 2 full turns plus still going but doing most of the third revolution falling out of the passe or similar position. I really love Makarova's choreography and John Lanchberry's score for their 3rd act (I think at least half of the act is new material) but would point out this beautiful variation is more neo-classical and getting in and out of a lot of the turns is a little trickier than it is in a more standard classical variation. I will go see if there's some footage of Darcy doing this on YT!
