The first time you see a vtuber it's a bit jarring, but as soon as you get over the shock it's crazy how real it feels, you might not be able to see all the facial features but we can still read so much from the subtle body language, head movement, eyes etc. I think this is especially true in Suisei's case, her 3D model is very realistic. She doesn't have exaggerated proportions, cat ears, tails or wings. Also her outfits are something you wouldn't be surprised to find a celebrity wearing. There's nothing overly anime or fantasy about them.

If you think about communication in general, body language is like 70% of all communication. In this case, the vtuber tracking is quite good so as you get used to it, i think your brain just adapts - and sometimes less is more as well, you brain fills the gaps.
