I had this version on my Amiga 500. although I am a strong advocate of the amiga, this port was bad. The amiga was and still is a legendary gaming machine, but SFll was one of the Amigas low points. The SNES/megadrive versions were far superior.
And the Amiga still had some quality games of its own like Alien Breed, Myth, IK+, Chaos Engine, Syndicate, Lotus Turbo Challenge, Nitro, Tanx, Hunter, Gods, F1 and the best by far, Moonstone. There are some others too, but I can't remember them. Ahh, the good old days of gaming. SNES and Amiga where all the fun was had for us all
I remember Street fighter being SO huge at the time and as most people still had their Amigas and Atari ST's left over from the 80's this was the closest thing you were gonna get to the almighty street fighter II without forking out 200 quid for a SNES & Street Fighter II bundle. However, if you DID have this version, you were the MAN! :D I remember the people who had this version (cus we were all 6 or 7 at the time) were the best. Megadrive owners didnt have SF til 93 so we had to wait ;)
I remember getting this for Christmas, and being so excited after playing the fantastic Super Nintendo version. Only my hopes were dashed after the Amiga prompted me to insert disk 2 to perform a dragon punch. I couldn't believe how shocking it was in comparison to the console version. I cry to this day.
see, as a kid who's first game ever played was street fighter 2 on SNES aged 3, this was all i could find round friends houses in the early 90's. The only people i knew rich enough to get a SNES were much older and us little kids had to make do with our old NES's, Masters Systems, Atari 2600's, Amigas Atari ST's and C64's. We had shit all, but if there was a Street Fighter 2 port, chances are ive played it :) i couldnt get enough of this game back then. it had a hold over me.
Agree with the above comment, the Amiga was the most powerful of its era. Just had terrible ports of fighting games, the hardware was un matched and was way more powerful than the home consoles of the time.
I remember this. Amiga was an amazing machine but this port of Streetfighter 2 was a real let down. The insanely tiresome disk-swapping was enough to drive the most patient gamer mad. The special moves were virtually impossible to do when using the joystick and the frame rate was appalling.
There is an interview with the programmers in Amiga power magazine (Issue 20, Dec.1992) found at "Amiga Magazine Rack" website. According to them, this game has 8 moves with one-button, but is capable to using two-buttons for 16 moves.
One of my first Amiga games. I remember me being on the bus back from school, thinking about which character i would use next to learn all moves. And I also remember constantly swapping
I find it amusing to view it through politically correct goggles, but as anyone of intelligence know, it's such fucking bullshit. The punching of a black guy in the intro was never intended to be a statement on race inferiority.
Lot's of people really bag this version but for an Amiga 500 it's actually a really good port considering the machines capabilities. The character and level design are excellent and the music isn't too bad either, just the choppy scrolling let's it down unfortunately, not sure how much this could be improved on a 1meg Amiga, would be interesting to see with the right programmer.
The Snes was an overrated machine anyway. It suffered from a slow processor and a rather naff soundchip. The games were also hideously expensive and were all the same. Long live the Amiga!
For the Amiga version, play the WHDLoad version, depack the data files and the loading is virtually instant like the console versions, and you can also play as characters you can't select as well.
I remember I had an amiga and my friend had SNES, I thought Street Fighter was the greatest game in the world, eventually one day my Mum got it for me on amiga and I was so excited to play it....After 10 minutes I realised it wasnt quite the real deal and my heart broke....
This is probably the second best arcade conversion made by US Gold (only SSF2 is better), so you can imagine what all their other conversions are like :P And they made loads of arcade conversions, mostly Capcom's games.
@darockk As with Mortal Kombat and many other Amiga games, you could use controllers with multiple independent fire buttons such as the Master System pads etc. That's how I used to play this atrocity lol
@Da1shocker . But both the SNES and Genesis versions are animated with moving trunks. Plus there is also a very obvious lack of scrolling floor. A quite miserable conversion.
@Vebinz Dumb thing about it was that the Amiga was compatible with the 6 button Genesis pads(first and thrid party) and many other earlier 6 button pads, yet they programmed it for a damn Joystick with onr button.
I think so. Moreover the AMIGA was the platform with the best sound until 1992, but i dislike the changes made by US GOLD in some music tracks of the game, but after all it sounds better than the SNES version, although the latter is better and more addictive. (Sorry for my bad English)
I remember at the time my friend had this, but all the Amiga morons at school said this was better than the SNES version! HOW they couldn't see this is beyond me. My friend didn't think this though as I had Street Fighter 2 Turbo and you could see the differnce of quality. Still, we had good fun this version too
Tiertex should be called "The British version of LJN". Seriously, they ruined many Capcom arcade games by making terrible conversions of them on home computers, just like how LJN makes terrible games based on awesome TV shows and movies.
Not to mention the lack of graphical punch that you can see above. But yeah, I think most people were turned off by the totally insane single button control scheme(that was also used on the Mortal Kombat games too!)
I totally don t agree. This version of sf2 is brilliant in many ways. The steering is hardcore to get the hold of but gives a lot of satisfaction when learned. The gameplay is very fast, try it on at least 5th level of difficulty and you will see, It doesnt get this stupid slowmotions such as the snes and arcade version!!! The graphics is not that impressive but its the limititations of amiga to be blamed, however the size of characters is way bigger which is pretty cool Oh and the tunes are fab
Yeah you could tell the developer didn't put as much effort into this port as they could have. The animations were very poor. The same music being used for every stage. I know the Amiga was not a powerhouse but certainly was capable of more than this. But maybe disk space was an issue? However I really dig the synthesizer music in the intro.
Shame really, the Amiga was plenty capable of doing a decent version of Streetfighter 2, but unfortunately when people heard US Gold got the licence for it, most peoples expectations dropped. If you can believe it, most people were happy it wasn't worse than it ended up, at least when the game was static in pause mode it looked the part, it just didn't move anything like it. You only have to trawl through some of the other beatemups on Amiga to know it could and should have been better!
And from what I remember this game came with something like 5 floppy disks! It was a pain in the arse having to swap them before each fight. I think my disks corrupted in the end.
lol, i love how dhalsim was the first choice for everyone cos he can breath fire and stretch all the way across the screen. then u pick him and he's actually super slow!
@Psygnote lol have you ever seen the ST release? That is the worst release and makes the Amiga version look award winning by comparison. I can't think of one good project Creative Materials were ever involved in. US Gold were probably responsible for more atrocious arcade conversions than any other software house during the 80s/90s. Quality was not a concern for anyone involved in this project. Everyone knew that Amiga SF2 would sell like hotcakes regardless on the basis of the name.
because they crammed it onto a few floppy disks and forced you to use a damn joystick. You could plug in a Sega Genesis(or Mega Drive) controller and get to use more buttons(the amiga could recognise a pad with as many buttons as you needed, but it depended on the game you were playing), but I don't recall it being the case for this game. Makes you wonder why they didn't just release a damn control pad or Arcade stick!
Not bad for a computer made in 1985 (waay before the SNES and around the time of the NES). Shows that nintendo were years behind. Il bet commodore would have stayed ahead if they had remained in business. To prove it; the SNES games would have been no problem at all for an amiga 3000 or 4000 and the A4000 was released before the SNES too.
I always wondered why this version of SF2 was so choppy and had weird controls, plus the loading times were painful.. The PC-Engine (Turbografx) had an awesome port (almost like the SNES one, but with less colors), and it was almost weaker in specs than the A500!
@Edam3000 more it looks like the whole game is "washed out"... what happened to the contrast in this game? weird... might have been considered much better with less "washout" effect and more color.
Damn, why does everyone hate this version so much...? I played the arcade version first and even though it was superior in each and every way, I still enjoyed this one... it's also surprising how many people praise the SNES one, since both the SNES and Amiga versions sucked in pretty much the same way |D
It's NOT a matter of power, but know-how in programming the machine. Amiga Had great fighting games, like the very playable Shadow Fighter, or the technical incredibles Fightin Spirit & Elfmania. However, a BAD conversion of SF II. The only thing I really like is the music.
Fuck Us Gold!!!! I was the happy owner of an amiga years ago an d I was convinced that it was much better tah the genesis and the snes, now I know suggestivity was a terrible factor and how wrong I was. I fact the amiga was a great machine, but you know, floppy disk is a very limited support, I remember mortal kombat :lots of disk swaps just to see the execution of the fatality...that was ridiculous,Commodore reacted too late with the cd32,the ps1 was almost there, the monster in the closet
SF2 with a joystick with only one button...but seriously , folks, what developpers at Commodore were thinking about a the time, one button for everything in a lot of games, it was a in a long therm a commercial suicide as uncompatibility is, that´s why pc survived - adaptation, and why the Amiga disappeared- dead end street... I say this from today, I owned an Amiga and enjoyed it a lot, today I still play on an emulator, and the one button thing makes my feel very frustrated...
For sound it's better than most of the SNES and Megadrive music. It's the piss poor conversions of this and Aladdin which made the music sound shit or in this case gameplay.
US Gold, probably the worst software house, in the world. This awful conversion really hurt the Amiga's reputation as a gaming platform and made Amiga owners a laughing stock. It helped cement the image that the hardware couldn't handle heavy work. Allegedly US Gold bought the licence and didn't provide the programmers with access to the game data from Capcom. I never trusted US Gold again. The Amiga press unbelievably, rated this tripe 80/90% & claimed it was almost identical to the arcade!
I had this version on my Amiga 500. although I am a strong advocate of the amiga, this port was bad. The amiga was and still is a legendary gaming machine, but SFll was one of the Amigas low points. The SNES/megadrive versions were far superior.
This brings me a lot of memories. I played SFII for the first time on amiga. I even liked this better than the much better SNES version =)
i remember playing the same version. nice vid. this is beter than what i am currently playing Halo 3
A little funky, but ya know... A LOT better than the MS-DOS version of the same game.
Well done! You have made it to the high score table!
ROFL!!! What a game...
Music in Amiga version was the best from all other versions :D
OMG, those musics, Ryu's specially... Playing completely out of stage and order. And the 1st ending illust :O
I love the Amiga 500 and it was a damn powerful system for its time, but this was a terrible port!
I think its probably one of the better ports.
Considering how good the Megadrive version was, I'm inclined to agree.
i loved this game on amiga *-*
And the Amiga still had some quality games of its own like Alien Breed, Myth, IK+, Chaos Engine, Syndicate, Lotus Turbo Challenge, Nitro, Tanx, Hunter, Gods, F1 and the best by far, Moonstone. There are some others too, but I can't remember them.
Ahh, the good old days of gaming. SNES and Amiga where all the fun was had for us all
i liked the first 5 seconds ;)
I remember Street fighter being SO huge at the time and as most people still had their Amigas and Atari ST's left over from the 80's this was the closest thing you were gonna get to the almighty street fighter II without forking out 200 quid for a SNES & Street Fighter II bundle. However, if you DID have this version, you were the MAN! :D I remember the people who had this version (cus we were all 6 or 7 at the time) were the best. Megadrive owners didnt have SF til 93 so we had to wait ;)
That intro music is so raw
I remember getting this for Christmas, and being so excited after playing the fantastic Super Nintendo version. Only my hopes were dashed after the Amiga prompted me to insert disk 2 to perform a dragon punch. I couldn't believe how shocking it was in comparison to the console version. I cry to this day.

Thanks for the memories:-)
I remember this. Amiga was an amazing machine but this port of Streetfighter 2 was a real let down. The insanely tiresome disk-swapping was enough to drive the most patient gamer mad. The special moves were virtually impossible to do when using the joystick and the frame rate was appalling.
The opening that changed my life...
I think the character select screen music being on Blankas stage takes the cake.
Questo videogame ci giocavo quando ero piccolo ed era fantastico
wow, i like this version better. the amiga makes everything sound amazing.
ahh the good ole days!
There is an interview with the programmers in Amiga power magazine (Issue 20, Dec.1992) found at "Amiga Magazine Rack" website.

do dzisiaj pamietam ta zajebista muzyczke z tej gry ahh chcialbym cofnac czas widzialem kilka wersji tych street fighterow ale chodzi mi o wlasnie te z ta oryginalna muzyka
Some people claim that the intro is racist. I fail to see how. It just shows a guy punching another guy.
I find it amusing to view it through politically correct goggles, but as anyone of intelligence know, it's such fucking bullshit. The punching of a black guy in the intro was never intended to be a statement on race inferiority.
Behind the camera there was a burning cross
Lot's of people really bag this version but for an Amiga 500 it's actually a really good port considering the machines capabilities. One of my favourites... Blanka forever!!!!
this is exactly how i remember it from my amiga, 15 years back..
and her names Elisa not even Lisa. This game is epic fail
If you think this looks bad go look up the Commodore 64 version. That looks unbelievably bad.
Best version music of all version Street Fighter 2
I remember I had an amiga and my friend had SNES, I thought Street Fighter was the greatest game in the world, eventually one day my Mum got it for me on amiga and I was so excited to play it....After 10 minutes I realised it wasnt quite the real deal and my heart broke....

the music rocks =)
@darockk As with Mortal Kombat and many other Amiga games, you could use controllers with multiple independent fire buttons such as the Master System pads etc. That's how I used to play this atrocity lol
"Fire from my hands!!"
-Ken
ken sure knows how to pimp that red tux
Nope. Eight ways and one button was all a real gamer needed...;-).

(Sorry for my bad English)
@supahdupahguy81 lol apparently Capcom changed it for later Western arcade/console versions to a couple of white guys instead.
I remember at the time my friend had this, but all the Amiga morons at school said this was better than the SNES version! HOW they couldn't see this is beyond me. My friend didn't think this though as I had Street Fighter 2 Turbo and you could see the differnce of quality.

If I want optimal SF2 playing, I'll play the HD version on my PS3. But this is just special. I know it's all nostalgia, though.
I never heard of this system I only had super Nintendo street fighter 2 turbo and now the sound doesn't work
She looked like a painted wood mannequin with a wig...HORRENDOUSLY FUNNY!!! XD
this version is really funny :D i like the video though!
lol I like the sound on this it sounds like Pretty Hate Machine or something.
I was thankful when SFII came out for Amiga so I didn't have to waste quarters in the arcades...but after awhile it would just crash on me. haha
Not to mention the black man getting a fat cheek from the white man. Haha I love it
I had this on Amiga, I liked it initially until I saw the snes version then I was well jealous
AWOKEN !
@dumbfk12 Nostalgic value.
Not to mention the lack of graphical punch that you can see above. But yeah, I think most people were turned off by the totally insane single button control scheme(that was also used on the Mortal Kombat games too!)

Augh!!! Dafuq did they do to the music? Its somehow worse than the IBM-PC 3.5" floppy port! I say that because the Amiga actually COULD do good music.
It only was due to commercials reasons... Buying consoles...
lol. she reminds me of those popsicle stick puppets which have the photos on top of the stick
Yeah you could tell the developer didn't put as much effort into this port as they could have. The animations were very poor. The same music being used for every stage. I know the Amiga was not a powerhouse but certainly was capable of more than this. But maybe disk space was an issue? However I really dig the synthesizer music in the intro.
looked a good conversion
MD and PCE were the best versions... then the SNES and the Sharp one... on the very bottom this one, along with the SMS (brazilian) version
music is the best
had this on the amiga. only character i could complete it with was e honda.fist palm attack lol... those were days
It actually sounds exactly the PC version of the game's music.
7:21 omg , guile's sonic boom transforms into a blue sh1t when he throws it
Shame really, the Amiga was plenty capable of doing a decent version of Streetfighter 2, but unfortunately when people heard US Gold got the licence for it, most peoples expectations dropped.

You only have to trawl through some of the other beatemups on Amiga to know it could and should have been better!
Am I imagining this or , did used to be the Cubex channel? (You guys changed name ,-or- am I mixing you up With someone else?)
And from what I remember this game came with something like 5 floppy disks! It was a pain in the arse having to swap them before each fight. I think my disks corrupted in the end.
at least the number of frames of animation is impressive
Not the one we had at our arcade, and even though I live in a shitty backwoods country, we had an original SF2 machine, and it was fast.
This is like a sick hannibal lecter home-made version of SF haha
It was always so easy for me to beat the last dudes, like Vega and Bison.
i remember this, was a letdown! why did they have to modify the soundtracks??
lol, i love how dhalsim was the first choice for everyone cos he can breath fire and stretch all the way across the screen. then u pick him and he's actually super slow!
Damn. Even the PC Engine version craps all over this. Why didn't they use EHB mode for 64 colours?
EHB mode eats up ram, that's why.
@piotoor are u talking axe kick that's just really close and hard kick
@Psygnote lol have you ever seen the ST release? That is the worst release and makes the Amiga version look award winning by comparison. Second round against Vega is bad manners.
Love Amiga but this port failed very badly.
Not bad for a computer made in 1985 (waay before the SNES and around the time of the NES). Shows that nintendo were years behind. @cnneo i remember on the commodor amiga a dragon punch wasn't forward down down down + forward
I-Is that a blowup doll Ken is getting it on with at the end!? 0_o;;;
oh my god i played so many hours ^^ I will reactivate my amiga 500 ^^
@Edam3000
more it looks like the whole game is "washed out"... what happened to the contrast in this game?
weird...
might have been considered much better with less "washout" effect and more color.
"How are you, Ken?"
As bad of a translation this is at least there are 6 elephants on Dhalsims stage unlike the SNES,Genesos, and PCD version which all have 4.
Damn, why does everyone hate this version so much...? I played the arcade version first and even though it was superior in each and every way, I still enjoyed this one... it's also surprising how many people praise the SNES one, since both the SNES and Amiga versions sucked in pretty much the same way |D
