This was my very first overdrive.Still have it.You have proved how a good ear brings out the best. It's funny people say ' Punk' when really it is all Classic Rock.Well done.
I have two of these pedals. Not sure of the exact year, but they are both made in Japan. Both are at unity volume at 12 or 1 o'clock, so they don't have the infamous volume issue. One of the main differences between the OD-2 and the OD-1/SD-1/OD-3, is that there is no op-amp/chip in them. It's all transistors.
Nice demo Joe. You’ve done your homework and passed it on to us. I found this pedal on reverb for cheap and am excited to check it out once it arrives.
The problem with the 2r is that it is more “upper-middy” and harsh. If you use the pedal as an amp channel on a clean amp it gets to unity at around 3:00. Mine does anyway.
I have OD-2, SD-1, Tube Screamer, DS-2. Sadly the pedal that gave the least impressive tone is the OD-2 when I compared with the other pedals above side by side. OD-2 sounded not refined...a bit 'loose' comparatively...if you know what I mean.
It's an acquired taste, but I was really impressed at the tones given the price point! Especially the Turbo mode, as it doesn't 'up' the gain as such but just drops the clipping out of the circuit entirely so all the 'normal' components crap out & distort....very unique as a concept!
@@JoePerkinsMusic the turbo mode is nothing but distortion...albeit not as tight and rich as the DS-2. OD-2 also sounded 'hollow' when I compared it with all the pedals above.
Imho, od2 is a flat sounding drive, i mean od2 doesn't change the basic sound of the guitar. DS1 is not flat, it has already scooped distortion sound. I like od2 more, because of that flat drive sound I can shape the tone to whatever I want with boss ge7. I can do that with ds1.
@@JoePerkinsMusic it’s a great pedal can be light drive and good stacker too boast a drive my Led light don’t work on mine but it sounds blooming good and the turbo mode works great
Think they're fairly different, but I'm not a 'circuit guy' so couldn't say exactly what the similaries/differences are. I think the SD-1 is fairly Tubescreamery, from memory?

Yep, is still the Boss. Beware boutique snobs, Boss is the King. Period!!.. cheers
Aha - yep, Boss rule :-)
Od 2 rules
It super nice to have this technical explanation...I'm looking for a pedal to push my amp and I think I'm gonna try this!!!

Awesome pedal. IMO, the absolute best overdrive for that Garage Band sound. Think early punk
It's mega - especially considering the 2nd hand price point!! :-)
Great demo! I had Analogman mod mine for more volume and ACA to PSA conversion, a really underrated and great sounding pedal!

OD-2 is a killer pedal - sure you'll love it :-)

Great demo 👌🏻
Great review man! Subscribed. Do you have a demo of the Boss OD2R?
Cheers dude! I don't I'm afraid, haven't got one. Feel free to lend me one though ;-) haha

i like this pedal a lot except for the volume issue? i wonder if there is mod for that?
I've never come across one, but I'm sure a good pedal modder would be able to sort it - Analog Mike, or similar!
Get a Boss OD-2r - same pedal but with a remote switch input and more volume - I just got one off ebay 🙂
Boss OD2 Turbo Overdrive does the led light work with battery mine the light don’t seem to work is it normal
I don't have this pedal anymore so I can't check...but I'd imagine it should?

Is there a difference between this to sd1 super Overdrive in circuits and do you know if they both stack well together if your a blues man

SD1 stacks nice with OD3.
