    [Eng] [한국어]
We both respect each other’s boundaries!
In England, it is courteous to open up your home to friends/family who need it. However, your bedroom is your sacred space, and it is very rude to be asked to give this up with no prior reason or warning.
In Korea, there is a family hierarchical thinking and elders must be given the upmost respect and comfort.
Continuously working through these cultural boundaries is a part of any international relationship and it requires compromise on both parts. Whilst you might not understand one culture, it does not mean you can write nasty comments. We make these videos to provide an insight into our lives and the struggles we face as an international couple. Our goal is always to learn from one another and educate.

Guests too would never ask you to let them sleep on your bed, if you don't have a guest room they would voluntarily ask to sleep in the living room soI totally understand Hattie's reaction. As for my mom he would say otherwise 🤣 having different cultures isn't an issue when both people respect each other's boundaries

If you’ve followed her from the beginning you know she has like mild ocd not that I’m a doctor but she’s said time and time again that she’s very clean. Imagine the stressor of sharing your space with your fiancé’s parents. She doesn’t want to over step or under step. Every human jumps to worst case scenarios but in the end she would’ve worked something out that she’s comfortable with. Stop judging her for being human and having very human like reactions. It’s clear to me that they both understand the hardships of being in an intercultural marriage, but they’re willing to listen to each other and work it out. There will be days when Hattie is uncomfortable, and there will be days when Jin is uncomfortable. But that doesn’t mean that they disrespect each other’s upbringing and beliefs. well to be honest I'm south European, and over here we would also do that... maybe not to strangers but if it's family members and especially if it's any of our parents, we would offer our bedroom if there was no other bedroom in the house ... because you want to offer the best and most comfortable option especially when they are your parents.. we wouldn't make our parents sleep on the couch.. but that doesn't mean to say that any alternative is wrong... we just have different cultures.. but I do find it interesting when two different cultures mix together... If my future husband feels very strongly against someone else sleeping on our bed, I would most probably respect that...

I think it’s an American thing too! Ever since I was little, I was always told never to go into a couples room because it was disrespectful or an invasion of privacy. Maybe it’s a western thing? But honestly it’s really cool seeing what another culture thinks!

I'm at an age where I'm still accepting myself and coming to terms with that its okay and valid to not do things my parents way (l'm twenty, but being in a culturally traditional household kinda put me behind stepping into my adult identity independence and feeling like I'm allowed to), so it was so relieving and insightful to see them discussing having space and boundaries, while in a traditional culture like Korea, especially with Jin being the firstborn son (I think, but correct me if I'm wrong!). I was raised where its polite to give up your bed and always host family every day (mexican culture, tho I'm american) and I've never felt right with having my family over at my childhood house every day. Its very draining to me, and ruins any plans for me to work or get things done in my own life, while still living at home. My extended family comes over literally every day, and its very stressful. Its normal to my parents and their boundaries of what they feel is good, but it was never mine... I need that space and independence, or I feel anxious and stressed too, like Hattie! So it actually encouraged me to feel like its okay to be different from my parents, and stand firm in that being a personal boundary for later on in life, when I have the choice in my own home. My boyfriend is a firstborn Korean son, so taking care of his parents is a big cultural expectation on him. But this made my heart feel relieved that its okay to have a different view, and its okay to compromise and still do what you feel comfortable with and set those boundaries, with it being okay. It made me have hope for our future. Thank you so much for sharing your perspectives on this, and these moments of how you both would handle these things!

As a Spanish the position Hattie had towards letting the house or not to Jin's parents was shocking... Not in a bad way, but I just noticed that Spain is pretty much different on that aspect. I mean, it also depends on the person though, but when parents are coming over or whatever, the main bed is usually offered, as we treat guests as gods or something like that hahaha like it would be soooo weird to offer to sleep on a sofa to elder people like wow, there's just no way, most of the time they reject it for courtesy, but the big bed is always offered. Later you just change sheets and that's it

Omg... I have watched you guys for a long time , but I had to comment this time. How could you be so rude? I mean if you don't want the his parents to sleep on your bed or sofa it's okay to say no but how can you say your sofa will get dirty if they sleep on it??? It's not even cultural difference now. It's basic manners . How can you be so rude when his parents bought the bed and all and you be there judging them if they sleep on your sofa. Dafuq. Imagine the parents feelings when they hear this. You are his fiancee , going to get married to him. Treat his family like yours . Unless you also treat your parents this way then I have nothing to say anymore. Really changed my opinion about about Hattie. I guess some people were right. She is just as haughty and rude as can be behind his parents back. Even with OCD or whatever , does not give you the right to say that. It's his parents , not yours. If you want to say it then don't put it in the video. Made me so disgusted. Like you said cultural differences but respect for each other is a must be it words or actions. You know how to talk about respecting culture . But in the video you show otherwise. Lol such a hypocrite. Also always getting pissed everytime Jin does pranks but you can do it on him and be fine with it. Pls bitch calm down. Jin is at least doing some content for the channel. Good luck Jin . Choose your woman wisely. well I guess if she is pretty, that's all that matters. The heart is as black as it can go.

As an Asian with an American husband and British step dad, I am not used to the independence my husband wants me to have from my family. When my parents came over to my house because of Corona, I gave up my bed for them and slept on a mattress on the floor for a year- because it was how you showed not only respect, but more importantly, love for your elders. So I was very confused when my British stepdad had to fly back into the UK and stay at his own son's home with his gf and they only offered him a blow up mattress which then caused him to pull a back muscle due to his old age. And then after a week his girlfriend made my stepbrother kick his dad out because of her anxiety of having someone in the house.I had to book an airbnb from Singapore for my stepdad, so that he could rest comfortably.
So I imagine my surprise when my American husband tells me that my stepdad is a grown man and should learn to take care of himself and I should not be doing all that. It was really a culture shock for me- cos I was expecting to be praised for being filial. I suppose it really boils down to the fact that Asian culture is very hierachical and is centred around community- whilst his is very independent and self-centric. I do not think I will get used to that though.. my sense of self is derived from serving my family. It is hard.
