They should bring back Craig Ferguson who used to host the late late show before corden took over. Craig Ferguson was hilarious. Magnetic personality and just funny. His duals with Robin Williams, Don rickles, Jon hammn, larry king , steven wright are legendary.

Trevor Noah is another example of a woke & lame replacement for a legendary host like Jon Stewart for The Daily Show. Noah just quit because his viewership was down to 300,000 while Stewart was pulling 2-3 million viewers. And he was actually funny. I’ve never found any of Trevor Noah’s comedy the least bit funny. They were just political diatribes.

He, by far, especially the "Geoff Peterson" years, was light years above all others when it came to entertaining, interviewing, and overall being very very personable to the audience. Extremely sad when he left his show, very angry that James Corden destroyed the "Late, Late Show" name. Great work guys, love your content, keep up the awesome work.

There haven't been a lot of British hosts on late night shows in the US. Craig Ferguson was the first British person (he is Scottish) I can recall as host of one of the major late night talk shows here in the US. Craig Ferguson hosted The Late Late Show for 10 years on CBS, and he was brilliant. Maybe CBS thought having another British person follow Craig as host of the Late late Show was a good idea. But it wasn't. Craig Ferguson didn't succeed because he is British. He succeeded because he is quick-witted and extremely funny.

Craig Ferguson is still my fav in the "American" Late Night talk show genre in the last 20 years. He was quick-witted, would pick up nuances when talking to guests, could basically left turn and talk with a guest about history, music, philosophy, and flirt like hell... absolutely engaged to look for a nugget of something different... like the best party guest/host. And he seemed to engage and interact with his audience, bringing some on stage sometimes. Corden's car pool karaoke was fun for a few people I liked, but I think his ego isn't supported by the talent. Reminds me of a comedian who says "I'm FUNNY!"... when it is the audience who gets to decide that.

keep in mind, he held the latest time slot in American late-night talk TV (meaning, it was on past midnight for half the country) and many of us probably didn't even know he had a show until the pandemic. I know I didn't. He was an asshat with a talented house-band and one who would only occasionally have big stars (mostly British) on his show. My impression was that people didn't want to be on his show unless they had something to promote or were looking for any kind of exposure at all.

  • @moni13000

Yea that whole carpool karaoke bit was little silly. The whole point and concept is that people like to sing along to songs in the car, just by themselves or with friends/family. Like if you’re on a road trip. So the idea is he’s doing the same thing, but his passengers are the actual artists. I sort of already guessed in my head that they either had a crew that drove around them for protection (like a political leaders’ security) or he was trailing another vehicle and he wasn’t in control. Turns out I guessed right. So I’m really not sure why people are surprised or upset about it. Cause like you said, the liability if he got into an accident with another celeb while working. He looks at his passenger car too frequently to be driving safely, no show would be willing to take that risk.

And the fact that he is consistently reported to be horrible not only to his own audience, other actors, and especially to waitstaff and other low wage people he has to interact with says to me that he really is a piece of garbage and deserving of all the hate he has been getting.

Maybe he's a dick, maybe he's not. You can never tell because someone decides to go after a particular celebrity and then others pile on and then it's the trendy thing to do on social media, even though you never know what's apocryphal, what has been cherrypicked but is missing context, etc.

Craig Ferguson is the greatest late night host of all time. So sad that he never got to the prime slot (though it never would’ve gone over, I just wish he got the recognition he deserved). David Letterman is a close second, and Conan trails in 3rd. And now you can probably tell I have particular comedic tastes.

I think the UK find loudness generally unpalatable and cringe - the US embraces it a bit better, but even they have their limits. There's only so long you can be this omnipotent chunk and still enjoy a positive reception - it starts wearing thin very quickly, and it seems like Corden just isn't getting the memo. He turns into that friend who doesn't know everyone finds them exhausting and irritating but keeps inviting themselves to stuff.

  • @danibeautylove

It seems James Corden is a real person who feels things, is under tremendous amount of pressure and not using alcohol and drugs to cope with it like the superior talk show hosts they mentioned, who have also been more successful for a longer. Of time and got away with all of those coping mechanisms because as long as they're performing and OnPoint no complaints. He's not starving himself or doing illicit drugs to stay skinny, so that was against him from the start too. Remember in Hollywood we reward those who do those things as long as the end result is them looking hot. I see a person who is a real person feeling real things without a tool bag of tools to use to cope with things. Who could use more therapy, who amongst us couldn't.

I liked James a lot better before he came to the states. He seemed more grounded. He’s become too corporate and political now, doing what CBS tells him to do and say. I hear he’s not nice to fans but that’s just hearsay so I’m not sure about that one.

I've seen Letterman. And he came our and bullshitted with the audience before the show. Did the same thing during commercial break, was nice and funny. Made fun of himself and could take a joke from people. You can even tell on some of the broadcasts when they return from commercials, the audience was already laughing at whatever happened.
Earlier this year my daughter met him. She works in a nice restaurant. She said he was very nice. She didn't even know who he was, until one of her coworkers told her. She didn't recognize him because of his beard.

I'm not a big fan of his but I couldn't imagine anyone being as bad as these people make him out to be. We all have bad days and or we do our jobs differently than others that may have the same job. I don't meet many famous folks out here in bfe Nebraska but I could imagine it to be a little tiring and trying at times trying to juggle a personal private life and a public one. As far as the not driving in carpool karaoke..who cares? Who watches it to see his driving skills? I watch it for the singers and stars who quite honestly seem to get along fine with James. Just my opinion and love watching you "Blokes" from this side of the pond.

The thing that I really don't agree with is the Cats thing, I highly doubt that got a low score just because James Corden was in it and more to do with Cats being Cats. If they didn't have all the characters as human sized cats with people faces and just did a bunch of CGI cats like they did for Lion King, it honestly probably would of done better.

I don't think Corden is particularly funny, but I don't really get the vitriol aimed at him. Everything laid out in this video is pretty weak, with the exception of the old behaviour he himself narrated and seemingly owned up to, and his weird interaction with Patrick Stewart that one time.
Like... getting towed around for Carpool Karaoke helped to "destroy his reputation"? lol. Was the really driving around the part people cared about?
If people think his show sucks that's fine - I don't like it either. I also think Jimmy Fallon's show sucks. I just don't get when "I don't like your show sir" morphs into this aggressive assholery towards them. Just don't watch them. I don't!

Around 15 years ago after a Chelsea West Ham game that Chelsea beat his beloved west ham, I was in a pub down the King's road after game a James Corden came in, my friend said to him "you was unlucky today" James Corden replied ". Fcuk Off" 5 minutes later, management asked us to leave the pub has James Corden reported us for harassment. Those was the only words that came from our group and it was said in a empathetic tone.
I've never respected him since and every time I see him on the telly I can't watch it.
So when I saw this Upload, it made me curious to see if still acts like a twat.
    Obviously, he does.
