- Noodeling around on my VFXsd. A great synth for pads, sure. But it can do other stuff to. Digital to the core but with trix up it's sleeve to make it more organic. Here I'm only using it's own efx and I'm also giving a tour of the wavetables or Transwaves as Ensoniq prefer to call it. All Patches I've created my self.
Really enjoyed your demo. Digital Ensoniqs are awesome - they sound warm, big, organic and have character. Most affordable polyphonic aftertouch keyboards anyway.
Thank you! Yes, they do have "something" that other digi-boards don't.
If keyboard have this unfamous clacky sound, than no, thanx ;) I think most affordable polyphonic aftertouch keyboard is Yamaha SY77/99.
@@montazownianr1 . The one with the clacky keys is the SQ80. And Yamaha SY series don't have polyphonic after touch?
@@montazownianr1 From what I know the SY77/99 have channel aftertouch affecting all notes at once, but polyphonic aftertouch works on that particular key which is pressed only like you can see at minute 3:16 ongoing
Great demo🤘 I got the sd-1 the sounds you can get is pretty amazing for a digital board for its age.
Yes. The efx and transwaves makes a difference. It has a presence that is nonnegotiable 😀
super cool...I always wanted one of those....lucky dude!
Brill demo, cheers!! Like my TS-10, was it's legacy. Great synth 😎🎹👍🍻
Got the TS-10 too. That is truely one special synth. It is missing out in the transwave section but gains so much.
No Nag Recordings cool! Literally only just got the TS-10, so learning my way around it at the mo' but it does seem to be an absolute classic - clean, 'crisp' 90's soundtrack 😎
@@theaudioeng it's a life time deep. 🤔 🤣
these patches are great.. hope you release pack sometime soon!
Thanks. It is on the to do list. But I can't say when unfortunaly.
Nice lead sound at 1:24
Think it is just pulse waves 🤗
Thank you your comment!

Yepp. This is where it kills the D-50 and M1...
Nice playing man! I had this synth before too, and I owned several Ensoniq. Really beautiful machines :)
Thanks! I really like the Ensoniqs. I have several and they are all beautiful instruments. Just sad they didn't survive. So innovative.
SPECTRAL at 5:40!!!
Exactly :)
It kind of reminds me of the Hydrasynth.
I have'nt spent so much time with the Hy-synth so cant tell. 😁🙄🤔
I have'nt spent so much time with the Hy-synth that I can tell.🤗😁🙄🤔
that patch at 3:07 is dope! wish I could re-create it on my vfxsd..
I think it is just saw waves. Pressure opens the fillter and jumps up the lfo on pitch. Somewhere around that :)
@@No_Nag Thank you for that!! Love this synth :)
ENSONIQ PIETRA MILIARE ESTASI

🤔😁🤗🤩
They don't make em like this anymore this keyboard is better than the MPC key 61
I think it takes some getting used too. But when you have it, it s really good. Can't say about the Akai as I haven't yet been able to try it. 🤔🙂
@@No_Nag It's ok but I'm still getting use to it
Nice pads
Thank you!
00:43 how did you make that sound? I love that !!
Easiest in the world, just detuned saw waves. 😊
Great demo of a great synth. Do you use the sequencer in yours? I find it quite buggy which is a shame as it's so easy to use - I've had to learn not to do certain operations in a particular order to avoid crashes!
Hi, I've always tried to stay as far away from inboard sequencers possible. I have always had some sort of daw or Atari. And also I never use a synth multitimbraly as I feel it often takes away something from the first sound you started with, makes it limber Kinda (?)
@@No_Nag I started out with Steinberg Pro24 on an Atari, but when my brother bought a Roland W-30 I found the simplicity of the built in sequencer really appealing. Probably didn't help though that the original mouse on my Atari ST was worn out and unreliable! I know what you mean about the multitimbral thing, as you point out in the video 21 voices may seem a lot until you start stacking voices or layering patches. Plus, even with the pretty sophisticated routing and effects on the VFX it's not great for recording down multiple parts at once.
Exactly, to the point! I still have my atari somewhere. I will set it up at sometime, not just for sequencing but also I have tons of patches for my MKS70, Wavestation and TG77 for it.
Oh why did Ensoniq dissapear?? They used to make a kick ass board.
They got bought up by creative. Dissected and put to rest. As with E-MU. 😏
Hi!! any link to buy Ensoniq VFXsd audio samples? cheers!!
Been looking at these online . I heard of some issues with overheating, any experience with that and are there things to look out for when buying the VFX? Is it a reliable board
They are not known for their reliability. But I think most of the surviving ones should have had their issues worked out. I haven't had anything happen to mine in several years. But it's an old board so I think you have to be ready for it and have it in your mind.
Overheating is mostly because the caps in the psu going old.
Replacing old capacitors with new ones solves the overheating problem. If you're new to this, have an expert electrio-technician restore these for you.
If it is the end of the worl and you haveto choose only one sinth between the SQ 80 and the VFXsd and that's it, which one would you choose?
Could you expand with an explanation? Thanks
What a wicked question. 🤔 🤣
Well I'd choose the SQ-80 just because that is the I personaly sounds better. Mainly because of the filters. But then, could I bring any FX... If not, than the VFX mabe would be my choise.
Satisfied? :🙂
@@No_Nag fair answer
2:27 3:36 4:49 I own one (perhaps from this video I dont know) and created a lot of lead type distortion sounds but in retrospect not so impressed (compared to distortion from SH32) thats not where this synths strength lies. It excels in monster pads but you have to download a sysex bank and find a good one, or design it somehow.
Making your own patches is quite easy on this one. And i agree on the distortion, woulnd'nt use it unless I have to.
@@No_Nag But making exactly the perfect patches you made (like the one at 3:09) is quite hard. Actually layering. I know programming the VFX is quite fun and a piece of cake. Definitely like 3:09, havent heard that mojo anywhere else.
@@mark12011972 Thank you so very much. I'm trying to get The most out of all of my synth and exploring their weak spots, turning it to something usefull. Thank you for responding and comenting.
NICE SOUNDS ETTING ME ONE
Do it!
I did but the guy wasn't to happy because he wanted to wait 3 more days on ebay, but I told him 465 today or I go and look for another one
@@machinary20 but can you just not wait 3 days?
Dude he got it at a estate sale it was in storage, it's clean. There were 5 dudes biding
By 3 days I could have lost it
Cool patches - are you offer them for sale somewhere?
I have some patches for sale, but not for the VFX. As It's just a few sounds I want to do a full bank before I putt it out for sale. But I'll get right on it :)
@@No_Nag Im putting my hands on VFX sd this week... started my career with ASR 10 Sampler Sequencer so im familiar Ensoniq goodness...good luck with the patch bank, keep us posted!
@@electreelife Thanx, I'm laying my last touches on my studio so there will be more videos coming.
@@No_Nag hey m8 - checking in to see if theres any progress :-)
@@electreelife sorry, not yet. Inspo has been at a minor this year/last year. But I try and get my self toghether and do it.
It seems to me, that You're modulating the transwawes by the key velocity, although it would have been much more indicative, if you would have done it via the mod. wheel. Sorry.
I just had it set up like that for the video. I think it's real cool if you use the multichannel aftertouch with it.🤗
Do you offer your bank of VFX sounds for sale?
As I dont have a full bank I don't sell yet.
This or a Kawai K4 for evolving pads? Can't decide. Even Blofeld and K3 comes to mind. And an ESQ-1. Maybe an AN1x. Trying to shoot below the 500 whatever money range :)
This is the better one. Blofeld is the best option if you dont want vintage, keys and poly-aftertouch
@@No_Nag Def. want keys, vintage is not a must, neither poly-AT. Is it difficult to program it, by itself? I don!t use computers or controllers. Pointing at the VFX-SD. And are they buggy somehow? I red some horror stories about Blofeld, but rather curious about the discontinued Ensoniq.
@@ebasswah ensoniq pre 90's are dead easy to program. Just get a manual to get the deepest stuff. Transwaves are fun to play with 🤗
@@No_Nag thank yoohoo! :)
Will you share or sell your set?
I'm working on my patch bank right now
So I will be selling.
@@No_Nag Ok, I will check sometimes here...
Sounds alot like korg dw8000 ... probably better
Well it has the digital osc sound maybe, but the filters are far from DW-land. the filters on the Dw8000 are fantastic but limited, this has the versatility of 2x HP/LP filters but without resonace . So I think the VFX sound more digital and clean than the DW8000.
@@No_Nag definitely cleaner
@@gorillabraudcast474 It also has them superb effects ;)
@@No_Nag superb indeed. I always wanted an akai keyboard. Spisificly the weird keyboard sampler that came out in the late 80s... I wonder why no rap producers fool wit it
@@gorillabraudcast474 I got the AX60 which I can connect to my S700 and I got that gigantic S1000kb and there will be videos on them soon. Don't know if it's anyone them you are pointing at?
