Happy Halloween boys I hear you got snow up there already here in Ontario it's sunny and into the 60's to 70's in the day anyway found a cool video on the youtube here that you may like to check out ruclips.net/video/clYNiITQ-PA/видео.html
One thing to note about hydraulic dump beds: make sure the load is actually coming out the back as the bed is raised. The cylinders aren't meant to hold the whole load up. If the load is frozen and doesn't come out, the seals on the cylinder might let go causing the bed to drop. A guy was killed when a large dump bed had a frozen load of dirt in it. Seal blew, bed fell. The large bounce it took when it hit the frame caused the guy to get launched out of his seat into the roof of the cab, killing him.
I know that mechanical contrivances are inanimate objects, but I firmly believe that some of them just want to live. That old M-6 is one that fits that category. Not only did the old flathead cough to life, but the lights worked (including some of the box clearance lights, really?), and it idled like it was new off the lot. That old Merc has a great spirit, and I'm glad you resurrected it. Happy Halloween and long live those old iron souls that want to live!
Your Hat finally fits your head Matt. LOL That's what I love about those old flat head engines their so straightforward and simple to work on. Just the smile on Jims face kind of sum's it all up!
Great episode! Those old Ford tail lights took me back. They were everywhere when i was a kid in the 60s and 70s. I thought they came out a bit later than'53, but my memory isn't what it used to be. Still and all, they look great.
Best episode yet! Could you guys make them longer? The getting it running is the bonus,I enjoy the comroderery. It makes me feel like I'm hanging out with you guys!
Every episode should be full-on Halloween themed from now on! Great to see that unkillable flatty roar back to life. I had a '52 Customline that I used to mess with as a teen, it was basically an engine and four tires, body rotted to hell, pull the emergency brake to keep from crashing into dad's station wagon...still amazed at how well it ran after sitting for years.
Love the old Ford trucks. Both my 51 F1 and 52 F3 have flathead 6's and are a blast to bring to life. I'm a truck guy so more truck videos are just fine with me. Well done boys.
Rockin' a strong look there fellers! I was suprised at how good it sounds given the circumstances. Looks like you got yourselves a bit of a beauty there!
That is a great truck! And you didn't have to put much into it! Good for you guys! Did you happen to have that new intake gasket in your hoard of NOS parts?
Good job guys! Henry would be proud of your efforts. Not sure about that Skull air cleaner though......good thing it didnt melt and put toxic gases into your lungs.
That is one nice truck. I have a '52 Chevy 2-ton that once had a grain box on it that we saved from the crusher. They are fun old beasts. Thank you for the great video. Cheers!
I showed my dad this video and sure enough, first thing he said is watch out or you'll burn your eyebrows off if she backfires. Damn, I still recall that day like yesterday, haha. Nice old girl. Wish we could have kept that 3-ton but it went off to a better place to get restored and not just sitting in a field for the occasional use.
You two are true resurrection guys. That truck has great patina and runs pretty well - too late for this year's harvest, but in time for Halloween. Loved the aftermarket air cleaner you fitted!
Dear Strong's Garage guys 👍👌👏 Great video and great work again. The skeleton driven coffin at the end made me grin from ear to ear! 😁 It's a really nice Halloween toy. 2) Congrats for getting the old girl purring again. I'm really flabbergasted that the engine sounds so healthy. No knocks, no nothing. Nearly everything else seems to work fine too. Despite the dented roof, this grain truck was definitely a good purchase. Congrats again. 3) Please kindly allow me to ask some questions: Did I spot another red truck with black fenders in the background? It looks very similar. Is it a parts truck or simply a second one? Will the grain truck be kind of patina restored in the future (frame derusted and painted, paint on the cabin cleaned and buffed back to life etc p.p.)? I would love to see that the old girl gets some good maintenance respectively TLC. After all these years holding up a barn (acting almost like Atlas, the Titan), she definitely deserves it. Anyway: I'm eagerly looking forward to watch your next video. Thanks a lot for making teaching explaining recording editing uploading and sharing. Best regards luck and health to all of you.
I remember freeing up valves like that over 50 years ago towing car down the road with a tractor sitting on engine with a bar and hammer tapping down stuck valves . Got them freed up and about 1 am towed down driveway back firing and roaring with no muffler . My friends parents where not impressed .
Y’all are so goofy with the skull being under intake, but I like it. Good clean fun. Thanks for a great video. Quick question, what was their reasoning back then to use positive ground? Was there a benefit to it over negative ground?
I like using the 12 volt method when they have some stuck valves. The 12 volts is to get the engine spinning fast enough to get it fired up and usually the heat of the engine running loosens the valves and they slowly begin to run on all 8 again. I have got lucky a few times with that method but you don't want too many stuck valves or it won't run unless you tear the intake or head off
Great video , love those flatheads. My love affair with those flathead V8s started when I drove my buddies, dads restored 1950 Ford F1 back in 1968. Talk about a sweet running truck. When it was idling it was so smooth that you could sit a glass of water on the hood and never see a ripple in the water.
Hey..great show…gosh really brings back memories the old truck….My Dad use to drive me to school in a 1952 Chevy pickup.….then he would travel off to work 30 miles away….every day in that truck…..this was around 1960….
I thought it would be a big 6,but 2 heads are better than 1.You guys killed with your humor and tickled our funny bones. It was almost side-splitting.Happy Halloween everyone!🎃
That's the first time I've seen a hot sauce squeeze bottle pour gas in a carburetor. I presume Mortske have influenced you guys with the gas in a hot sauce squeeze bottle aka the term "hot sauce".
That was enjoyable - I hadn't seen stuck valves freed up like that before - I have a 41 Ford 4dr in my back yard that ran when parked 40 yrs ago that I just use for yard art - if you were closer I'd bring it to your garage for a "will it run"
Now that's a resurrection! Did it even have brakes? Is there a chance that some day it would be plated, and we might see it driving into the CWM compound, where it could spend some time with its contemporaries.
Someone, a few videos ago had the nerve to say you guys were kinda dry (or something like that). Well this should change their mind. That was a great video. Plus you got the engine sounding nicely. By the way... you both look very "healthy" .. ish. That was a nice touch with a black cat being in the video too. Cheers from the East Coast.
Old Merc didn't take much to get back running. And running well. My 52 had several stuck valves when I brought it back to life. I was able to loosen them up through the spark plug holes with penetrating fluid and careful use of a hammer and punch. Didn't have to remove the heads or manifold. Looks like your truck is ready for next year's harvest.
I'm a Chevy guy but that's a good looking truck and its always a pleasure seeing them brought back. I recently got a 66 c10 in really good shape. I've lowered it modestly, upgraded the brakes and I briefly considered building a modern 327 for it but it's kind of cool the 250 6cyl runs really well and now when *EVERYONE* is doing the bellybutton LS swap I feel like being different keeping the 6
Happy Halloween! Hope you Folks Enjoy This! Again We apologize for the wind but such is life when you are "In the Field"!
Dear Strong's Garage guys.
You definitely need a dead cat! 😁 ;-)
And maybe also a dog for your great shop, a so called shop dog?!
Sincerely yours.
It is what it is. Loved the video, what a great truck!
Lot o wind in some of mine too, but I edit it out!

They truly don’t make ‘em like they used to! Can you imagine the carnage of a “stuck” valve on a2022 Toyota? ☠️💀
Hello chaps! What a Luvely old truck. It’s amazing how many of these abandoned old cadavers only need your kiss of life.🎃
What a great old running again F-6/M-6 truck .
It's alive, moo hoo hoo ha ha ha.
Now ya gotta put some shine back on it.
I'm quite certain that Vincent Price would approve of your delightfully ghoulish flathead resurrection!
Loved this episode. Especially the gag scraper.
Nothing sounds quite like the burble of a happy flathead. Nice!!
You guys just make me smile through the whole video! Love this!

You guys are great. I have truck envy. Thanks for sharing!
That was some awesome creativity for this video. That flathead valve tool looks very cool.
Bloody Mary's in the cups for Halloween? Lots of smiles, thanks.
Great episode! Those old Ford tail lights took me back. They were everywhere when i was a kid in the 60s and 70s. I thought they came out a bit later than'53, but my memory isn't what it used to be. Still and all, they look great.

Could you guys make them longer?
The getting it running is the bonus,I enjoy the comroderery.
It makes me feel like I'm hanging out with you guys!
Love it! Thanks for the laughs as well as the fascinating inside look at that old beauty.
Magnificent Gentleman! Cheers!
Human skulls in the intake were a common problem with that engine.
The only "tricks" here are "Tricks of the trade!" It's always a treat to see a new installment of Strong's Garage. Thanks for inviting us in guys!
Great Halloween resurrection!
This one looks like it was as much fun o make as it was to watch

This was great - nice work. Listen to that sweet Merc idle. Man is that first gear low.
You all had me scared for a few. Kept me on the edge of my seat.
Two thumbs up for this, Gents.
Resurrections never looked so good.
Do the Mack in the background next?
That thing sounds good good for another hundred thousand

Great startup on the old truck, guys, good call on pulling the intake. Loved the skeleton in the coffin at the end.
Great video! A treat to see the old truck go again.
Love the old Ford trucks. Both my 51 F1 and 52 F3 have flathead 6's and are a blast to bring to life. I'm a truck guy so more truck videos are just fine with me. Well done boys.

Happy Halloween fellows. Love the sound those flatheads made. Neat antique Halloween stuff.

Learn something about freeing stuck flathead valves
Good stuff guys.

Another outstanding video. Thank you for sharing your approach to the repair and the tools. Awesome
"Bring a few dead holes back to life"......😯...........*That was ignored while both laughed anyway*..........🤣

You should call the truck; " Lazarus".
Had the fright of my life! Had to be reassured there wasn't a real life ghoulie and skeleton at the Strong's Garage
Skull under manifold common problem.....that mouse had a big head though.
Great video guys!
You guys are GREAT! Thank you 👍
Are you going to start up the Mack that was seen in this video? That looks like a very nice B model.
That's the first time I've seen a hot sauce squeeze bottle pour gas in a carburetor.

Holy shoot that’s a good video guys!👻
It's aliiiiiive!
At least we know the last bonehead who worked on that engine.
She’s ready for the harvest, pretty cool that the hoist even works.
Should have gone as Scott and Dean from CWM! 😆
They weren't?
Ding ding YEAH!
Great show guys
NICE!!!

This is way too frightening for the children
