I think the almond milk was watered down because it looked like you accidentally added 6 cups of water instead of 5. You were doing two cups at a time and on the 3rd round I saw you fill it up to the two cup mark instead of one. You could try again and make sure that you strain all the water out of the almonds, then add exactly 5 cups, double the vanilla and add sugar. I think that would be much more similar than the recipe you used.
Step 1) soak the almonds over night 2) pop off the skins - they add a bitter -off taste to the milk 3) use very minimal salt and sugar and skip the vanilla if you want to use this in soup, Alfredo, mashed potatoes.
Such a fun video to see everyone learning (and willing to learn) about new things! I appreciate the helpful comments from viewers! PLEASE do another video showing what you’ve learned!
Great episode!!!! We lived on a farm 70 yrs ago...mom (RIP) milked 2 goats daily...(Annie & Doris) Now, this brings back some nice memories!! Loved all the "milk" explorations..... All the Best from BC
@@jennifermassie7227 Safe from fires in my area of Prince George ....others around Kelowna, Yellowknife & area in the NWT, & the Shuswap area are deeply affected by these raging fires....Prayers are appreciated...🇨🇦❤
For almond milk: pop the skins off 1c soaked raw almonds, 4c water, vanilla, salt and agave for a sweetness that is low glycemic. then through a nut milk bag! You can bake the almond pulp that is left over and then blend it up and you have almond flour. ❤
Love that you guys are trying homemade alternative foods. Almost all my allergies and sensitivities are to additives, flavorings, colors, stabilizers etc. I can’t do any hydrolized yeast, msg, etc. Can’t do can than gum or carregeenan so store bought milks are out for me. From garden to table is safest for me.
I love that you went on a field trip, Joe, and that Savannah went with you! It is good to know that goat's milk doesn't taste bad. My lactose intolerant relatives can drink that and eat goat's cheese. I like goat's cheese, especially with cranberries and cinnamon at Christmas time. (Bought ar Costco). It is great for the charcuterie platters! Thanks for talking about the cost breakdown. I can totally appreciate that. By the way, if you take the brown skins off the almonds, it helps get rid of bitterness and inflammation from almonds. Try again without the skins, Crystal!
If your lactose intolerant or have a dairy allergy try the lactaid milk Walmart has it and a generic that's a decent price. I have a dairy allergy and i personally drink that because i have a peanut allergy and have to be careful with nuts. Also Aaron very proud of you i am 40+ days with no soda myself.
Ooo, I have a very rare but really delicious alternative milk: take a ripe banana (must have freckles- yellow with no freckles is a starchy banana.) Blend with enough water to give preferred consistency. This is what we drink if just want a glass of milk but goes great with a bowl of cereal too;)
When my son was 4yo we found out he was allergic to corn and corn byproducts. It's in everything!!! There is high fructose corn syrup in bread, why? Of course this is also the same time my husband found out he needed reading glasses, because he couldn't read the labels. :) We eventually got through it, but it was a huge learning curve. Aaron you are so blessed to have Joe as your friend. The way he looks out for you during this new food chapter is amazing.
What to need to get for straining is a nut milk bag with an ultra-fine BPA-free mesh material means you can create a smooth, pulp-free result every time!
I have been on a health journey almost 4 years now; the surprising thing I have founded are all the different names for sugar in the same item… to date, I think I have found over 30 different sugars while reading labels…. It really is stealthy, you think the 1st item listed for sugar is the only item, but further down in the ingredient list, there might be 4 or 5 other sugar ingredients…
I chuckled as aaron added fake maple syrup to his oat milk. My hubby and I go thru this cuz aunt jemma and those like it is just kryo syrup and brown sugar. So i told him if you run out i just make you some. 😂 in the recipe they probably actualky asking for real maple syrup. 😂 love this video with the different milks.
I’ve made homemade Almond milk before and like Aaron was trying to say you need to make sure that your measurements are exact. It annoys the heck out of me when my husband tries cooking or baking anything and never measures out exactly what recipes say so that’s why I do all of the measuring.
Many thanks for sharing your endeavours to make/taste alternative milks at home. Because you do this mostly out of dietary and health reasons, be careful not to improvise too soon with recipes. Respect the indicated ingredients, proportions and execution. Some notes from my personal food journey having had a gluten and lactose intolerance (coming from Asia to Europe). *goat milk is still dairy *almonds must be organic, raw, soaked for at least 12 hrs and skin free *check if oat is glutenfree *use reel maple syrop *try fructose/fruit sweetener (if not intolerant) I read many suggestions in the comment thread, so absolutly a great topic. Wishing you a tasteful journey, exploring convenient food.
Love y’all so much stay safe and stay healthy positive vibes love much I’m part of y’all family for life Crazy Pieces keep it crazy keep on growing positive vibes and more good vibes more fun Vlogs
Thanks for the milk videos. I am also lactose intolerant. Also, thanks for the plug on Ben and Jerry's ice cream, I had some of the dairy free, and it was good. I love almond milk( sorry you can't drink it, Aaron).
Hey so proud of you Aaron with your food journey. An idea for you is to download and app like trash panda or Yuka. These apps help make reading labels dummy proof and help to explain what the ingredients. You can also put in your food intolerances/ your diet and when you scan a foods label it will tell you if it has for example milk or milk products in it.
I use to make rice milk for our grandkids, we tried all the milk alternatives including hemp and garbanzo bean. They loved rice the best and it's easy!
Store bought milk - even cow’s milk - has additives that are heavy and settle on the bottom. You shake to distribute the Vit D or xanthum gum. You want those evenly distributed. You don’t want the oat grit so can allow that to settle on the bottom… but if you have a high end blender you won’t have the heavy grit and will be able to shake your alternative milks which has sweetener in it that needs to be redistributed.
I understand Aaron, Crystal & Hannah can't have certain things to eat or drink. But You guys need to try Fairfield Milk! It's milk straight from the cow. It doesn't get processed like other milks do. It's also Lactose Free for Crystal. It's really good. I also love almond milk & cashew milk.
Crystal another recommendation I would make for your Almond milk, I would remove the skin off the almonds after you soak them. Then make your oat milk. That may improve the taste
I remember drinking cows milk from the cow many years ago as a child. Sometimes I would give anything to have a glass pure cows milk & I can almost taste it. I’m 70 so I was a young child. Before I was 5. We moved to the city when I was 4. ❤❤❤
You can make great alternative milks with a MioMat machine. It cuts the amount of time (14 minutes) and you can opt to not soak your nuts. Cashew milk is worth a try if your allergies allow.
Have you tried chocolate lactose milk, I have to drink that and I have to drink skim lactose Milk because I can't have nuts or oats highly allergic to nuts and whole grains. I have celiac diease with Autoimmune DIEASE too.
If you don't want to add sugar you could add strawberries or blueberries, etc. and that might sweeten it up enough! I would try with all 3 types of milk!
I think if you used clear vanilla extract, and peeled the almonds, your milk would be more of a milk color. I have never had goat milk before but I might try it.
I just heard about a product called "almond cow" it's a milk maker and according to what I heard its a clean easy process and the end product is way better tasting than the ones made without it.
You would take off the almond skin for whiter condition. Easier to do in factory with the tools. the skin give another taste too. In liquid sugar acts to be savoury and in big quantity to preserve, so for homemade, fast consumption, you could put less.
Try using a jelly bag for straining the oat milk. They are used for straining the cooked fruit to get the juice to make jelly. You should be able to get it strained easily with no pulp. Just make sure you dampen the bag before you pour it into the jelly bag.
Add dates to your milk for sweetness, it’s so so good and healthier than maple syrup. And then just strain it at the end in one go. You can’t really tastes the dates it just tastes sweet like sugar so that’s a good thing. The almond milk wasn’t pure white cos of the vanilla you added to it and cos of the skins of the almonds. Store bought probably has a lot of additives such as preservatives, sucrose thickeners etc. The ratio of almonds to liquid in store bought almond milk is probably different too. Like you said, it’s a matter of playing around with the recipe until you like what you make. Almond milk is really good with Matcha. Aaron has more experience and common sense in the kitchen which is why it’s difficult to watch others in the kitchen and comes off as micromanaging…but he probably knows easier and efficient ways of doing things in the kitchen cos of his experience, so let the master do his thing.
A friend of mine who is diabetic tried a sugar alternative called Rxsugar and he said there is no after taste and was great in his coffee. Might be something you can look into?
I live in Alabama pretty much everybody has goats and there milk is your healthiest alternative out of all but that was a pretty neat experiment OHHH next time try honey instead of syrup😊
Use a cheese cloth to strain, you will have no pulp at all but you have to squeeze the oats and almonds to get everything you want from it. I put a large piece of cheese in a bowl, large enough to wrap it all and twist and then squeeze
Aaron, Maple syrup is better for you than corn syrup sweetened pancake syrup and it tastes much better...Loved the video...Good luck on your health journey...By the way, you can do wall push-ups which are much easier on your joints.....(physical therapy trick)....
My daughter can't have dairy because she has EOE, and dairy seems to increase her eosiniphils. I wonder if goat milk would work for her. We usually just get almond milk, but never made my own, that seems like a daunting task.
Diabetics (as well as no diabetics) steer clear of oatmilk because it has a natural sugar called maltose in it which can spike blood sugar levels. Flax milk is a great alternative!
We used goat milk when one of our daughters was young just due to intolerance, but i did not like the smell of it at all. Back then the only other alternative was soy milk and it wasn’t like it is today, it was nasty lol once we desensitised her to her egg intolerance (which I’m so grateful they did back then) she was able to tolerate cows milk again.
Trader Joes sells Goat Milk you would find it in the same area as the regular milk and you should try making the oat milk using organic maple syrup instead of pancake syrup. I find Costco has the brat price for maple syrup.
You have to have the cheese cloth all around. Its pointless to over pore to where it goes over the cheese cloth too strain. Cheese cloth is the best way to strain, when you use it property.
My uncle was raised on goat's milk because he was intolerant of cow's milk. Goat's milk is hard to get in my area but we find it often has a cheese-like flavour. Found out it makes an easy buttercream frosting that tastes like a cream cheese frosting 🤤, and also makes a great white sauce and alfredo sauce. Hope you try it out for cooking and baking and share the results with us! 👍
Dad decided to get three milking goats with a Billie for babies...we kids weren't fans of milking or drinking the milk. Dad told us he was selling the milk to a lady and we believed him. My older brother noticed he was running the milk through a pasteurizer we had for a milk cow we used to have and putting it in quart jars. Dad told us kids our milk was in quart jars for the littles as the gallon jar from the "cows" was too big to pour from. We didn't know the difference.
I’m lactose intolerant so I switched from 2% milk to Oat Milk I tried a few different brands before I got one I liked. You always have to have a backup because Oatmilk gets sold out quickly. So many are lactose intolerant. I have a backup though when mine is out. I wish you the best Aaron. I was getting sick every time I ate just like Hannah was I’m still trying to figure out what I can tolerate. We did switch our oil to Olive oil instead of Vegetable oil. I keep a food journal.

Well that was interesting, have you ever thought of making your own Kefir instead of buying it, all you need are the kefir beads and milk, it`s very delicious.
@rangitopia4054 quit whining. Watching their videos is a privilege. If you don’t like what Crystal does, don’t watch. You’re not obligated to be here. You are here by choice. By the way, it’s CRYSTAL not Chrystal.

Hi, about the almond Milk, I think you should peel the almonds before you mix it and then it will be less yellow and looks more like Milk.
Yes, after you soak the almonds, you have to peel the almonds.
Peel the almonds and try the clear vanilla?
Crystal.. I love you! Girl.. you are so much fun in the kitchen teehee

They may make the Almond milk with clear vanilla.
All the husks on the almonds made it that color. Also, if I were Aaron, I wouldn't have been able to stand back and watch either.

People add dried prunes for the sweetness
That was not maple syrup for the Oat Milk 😂
Chrystal, next time, it may be easier to take the blender to the sink rather than going back and forth to get the cups of water.

Tootsie pops! I’m taking that soda. It’s my cheat day!
Buy the Skinny Syrup Vanilla (sugar free vanilla syrup) to use in place of vanilla extract. You’ll still get the vanilla flavor.
Coffee filter might work for straining
I think if you used clear vanilla extract, and peeled the almonds, your milk would be more of a milk color. I have never had goat milk before but I might try it.
I just heard about a product called "almond cow" it's a milk maker and according to what I heard its a clean easy process and the end product is way better tasting than the ones made without it.
Brings back memories, my uncle had a dairy farm. We drank it whole . He sold all milk to Hersey dairy.

Surprising ingredients:
Chorizo = Pork Salivary Glands, Lymph Nodes and Fat, Chorizo Seasoning (Paprika, Salt, Spices, Mustard, Garlic Powder), Pork, Vinegar, Soy Grits, Sodium Nitrite
A friend of mine who is diabetic tried a sugar alternative called Rxsugar and he said there is no after taste and was great in his coffee. Might be something you can look into?

Aaron, Maple syrup is better for you than corn syrup sweetened pancake syrup and it tastes much better...Loved the video...Good luck on your health journey...By the way, you can do wall push-ups which are much easier on your joints.....(physical therapy trick)....
Aarón you should try the pure maple syrup it’s healthier for you
My daughter can't have dairy because she has EOE, and dairy seems to increase her eosiniphils. I wonder if goat milk would work for her. We usually just get almond milk, but never made my own, that seems like a daunting task.
One of the main things that triggers eosinophils is dairy.
Goet milk is in fact dairy.
Try Goats milk its easier to digest not as heavy on tummies as cows milk and healthier!
Diabetics (as well as no diabetics) steer clear of oatmilk because it has a natural sugar called maltose in it which can spike blood sugar levels. Flax milk is a great alternative!
I drink unsweetened almond milk. I'm wondering if yours is more similar to that than to what you normally drink
Yeh no…Aaron wasn’t micromanaging…he was making sense. There’s recipes and instructions for a reason.
Goat milk and cheese is really good but unfortunately really expensive (Goat milk soap is made pretty much everywhere in the US)
Trader Joes sells Goat Milk you would find it in the same area as the regular milk and you should try making the oat milk using organic maple syrup instead of pancake syrup. I find Costco has the brat price for maple syrup.
monk fruit sweetener is a good alternative to sugar
Micromanage....lol yup! Crystal I see it heehee

The tootsie roll pop commercial LOL.
lol. I still need to know how many licks it takes to get to the center of the tootsie roll lol😂😂
You should try a2a2 milk. Most people that have problems with regular milk can drink the a2a2 milk because it doesn't have the proteins that can cause problems with people who have milk allergies.
I am sure you can get it at any whole foods store. I know Kroger has it if you have Kroger down there.
I don't believe we have Kroger's in Arizona though we do have Fry's which has Kroger's products.
Tootsie Pop commercial!!! It takes 3 licks to get the the chocolatey center:)

What is the egg substitute you found?? I am also intolerant to eggs
It’s called Just Egg.
Instead of winning the soda if someone guesses correct, the winner should win a tootsie pop! 😂😉
My cats name is LuLu.. 😂 the goat is so adorable.. ugh I don't drink no milk and can't it makes me sick ..
Owl counting how many licks it takes to get to the middle of a tootsie roll pop

I still eat dairy and I have never tried goat milk. I like all the others youve made
Try a muslin cloth rather than cheese cloth,it is a finer material 🙂🙂🙂
The Tooties pop commercial😂how many licks😂😂
Craziest ingredient for me...Sunny D juice has canola oil in it!
