that is the first vehicle i learned to drive when i was about 8 years old in the farm, the big carterpillar track tracktor. my grandad had a huge farm mostly rice, sugar cane and pigs and cattle and i loved doing the rice with the tracks. it was a really happy childhood.
ive seen a few of these built but i have to say this one is the best good job keep it up id say you could seel a bunch of those easy and showing a kid driving it proves its ease of use and safety A+++ damn good job !!!!
Scratch the snow blower idea, especially with tracks you'll just spin.. Would be really cool pulling a mini scraper pan full of dirt...cool track machine though!
23 you're a spring chicken. I'm 62 and think it's COOL!!! The wood chipper is great, but with those tracks, this thing is screaming for a snow blower!!!!!!!!!!
What a beast! Wish there was more to the video but hey this thing is perfect. I can just picture a front loader on it shheeeewwww that be freaken awesome
What the hell have you done besides rip on this man's creativity? I'ld LOVE to have that machine, and I live in the wild mountains of North Carolina! In fact, I would put it right to work dragging firewood for me and my family! It looks like it would do a damned fine job of it too!!
Hey, nice job with the track conversion, It really is one of the better ones I have seen done. I really like the way you re-worked the fender pan to flow with the tracks. This is one area that always seem to look out of place on a trac job. The hand control choice is great too! Is that off a skid-steer?
Thats just awesome!!! I farm and have some big JD tractors and never seen this before, totally awesome!!!! For the guy thats said 1:19 Thats safe??? Yes its safe, I will put it into english the cutter is at the bottom of the yellow tube, not the top!!!!
@notxess66 They are from Rubber Trax, Inc. in Conners, Georgia. size 230x72x50. The wheels and idlers are from the Surplus Center catalog. Thank you for your kind comments.
Awesome job. I'm in the process of building one out of a 1969 wheelhorse electro 12. Hope it comes out half as good as this one. Don't let all the idiots on here get to you. They think they know everything about anything.
needs head lights for sure and will be complete,,imagine it with a enclosed cab and a heating system,,would be a snow cat and could go any where anytime during any snow.
do you by chance have a list of everything you did and what you needed so i could build on I'm getting a John Deere 317 next month that i want to do this too.
man you have got to put a push blade on front of it and would be a wonderful piece of equipment and may if the chipper is hydraulic mount it on the back.
Imagine the possibilities.... you could have your breakfast, brunch, lunch, dinner, and tea,... all before you ever get to the job,.. and when you finally get there,.. it'll be dark and time to come home! Nice machine,... needs a higher gear tho.
I know this has been over 10 years......I wish I could see how you made that wood chipper that thing is sweet
That must have been the happiest kid ever
I have sat on the same 317 when I was 6 or 7. I it was a COOL tractor.

EXCELLENT! Very professionally done, especially the joystick control!
OK where is the build video?
This looks stock, I mean that as a compliment.
Congrats to whoever built this, they did a great job.
Now I want one!
Music blew my eardrums out! cool machine!
ive seen a few of these built but i have to say this one is the best good job keep it up id say you could seel a bunch of those easy and showing a kid driving it proves its ease of use and safety A+++ damn good job !!!!
WOW, that is just amazing! I loved it all but especially the chipper.
Scratch the snow blower idea, especially with tracks you'll just spin.. Would be really cool pulling a mini scraper pan full of dirt...cool track machine though!
The music brought a tear to my eye.Thinking of the gift to mankind this was
My 5-year-old and I LOVE these videos! Very nicely done, sir. :-)

Oh, that's a wood chipper on the front... I thought it was just happy to see me!

I love Top Gun and this tractor.
wow I want one JD should do that for their average lawn tractors I would buy one for sure
I really like this machine. Not only is it homemade, but it actually looks good and functions well. Someday I'll build something similiar.
Cheers
American ingenuity at it's finest!
Love the front end PTO! I had thought about this myself minus the tracks, love it!
My compliments. Nicely done
WOW! That is one hell of machine!
Awesome job!!!!! Looks like it was built like that from factory
I absolutely love it!
Awesome machine!
wow brill bit of kit, very professional looking you'll have to do a vid on how you built it ...
John deere and top gun. Awesome.
Those are some very cool projects you've made! You seem like a very enginuitive person.
Good Job, Thanks for show your good work, looks like fun
That thing's sweet I want one
Great job, Have you shared this on the WFM forum? We would love to see more pics and discuss similar track modifications.
really nice
Thats just awesome!!! I farm and have some big JD tractors and never seen this before, totally awesome!!!! For the guy thats said 1:19 Thats safe??? Yes its safe, I will put it into english the cutter is at the bottom of the yellow tube, not the top!!!!
i love the way that thing looks! BAD ASS! but if i had it and the wood chiper i would want a bigger hole for wood.
good engineering there pretty neat

Great Job! Where did you get the drive sprockets?
The Song Make its like 3 times better Even tho a Mini 2 track is already Badass
Awesome. Just awesome.
That would be a great snow plow
My kid would have gone nuts to have drivin something like this. He would sleep on it.
Great Job!
@mikemainguy Looks all hydraulic to me
VERY NICE! totaly perfect!
now you need a blade on the front!
thats nice! now imagine if you could detach the yellow tube and install bucket kit with detachable bucket too.
doubleskkC.

Grt job
It's a very good idea and what if u were to put a lift in this tractor
a modern classic
Awesome job. I'm in the process of building one out of a 1969 wheelhorse electro 12. Hope it comes out half as good as this one. Don't let all the idiots on here get to you. They think they know everything about anything.
man that thing is cooking!
Nice! How long did it take you to convert that?!?!?
Well done.
It wasn't any ordinary John Deere lawn tractor to begin with; the 300- and 400-series tractors were designed for commercial use.
really nice man.....lets see some more
coolest grandpa ever
that thing is so freaking kewl id love to have one
Love the repower too! I'd love to look this one over, and you would be totally welcome to post about it at the MTF forum!
Great music
That's awesome, looks weird without a steering wheel. Did you replace the rear end? You had to to get it to turn?
El regalo de mi hijo de 2 años en su cumpleaños
it sure goes slow enough, but it is awesome!!!!
Well time to get the drawing board.
very cool wish i could do this to my 212
That is so cool!!!
that thing is awesome
like the chipper on the front
needs head lights for sure and will be complete,,imagine it with a enclosed cab and a heating system,,would be a snow cat and could go any where anytime during any snow.
Based off the music, I thought these were deleted scenes from Top Gun.
really good build !!
awsome job gramps
that is amazing! quality work!
dam sweet machine pard!
Now that rite there is so awesome! How didchya build that critter?
do you have any plans on the tracks design and how is the stering hydro did you use anything special for stering design
Nicely done, are you using the existing brakes to do the steering or did you replace the rear end?
That's pretty impressive.... lol👌
@duh33311 unless he modify the deck to be attached to the front like the chipper.
coolest Grandpa ever
Well Done!!!
It's glorious!
im impressed although i would put a blade on the front and ripper on the back
Very cool.
do you by chance have a list of everything you did and what you needed so i could build on I'm getting a John Deere 317 next month that i want to do this too.
Nice crawler! The problem though is that you can't mount a mower deck under it. Does it have a rear PTO? You could hook up a small bush hog to it.
man you have got to put a push blade on front of it and would be a wonderful piece of equipment and may if the chipper is hydraulic mount it on the back.
A wheel that acts much like a track is used on the Miastrada Dragon. Search 'Miastrada Dragon' on the youtube search line.
like the idea like the machine and like the kid you know what they say start early
Great ingenuity if they did it themselves but impractical for a machine originally built to mow. Expensive toys are nice for folks with money to burn.
Ive got a 317, and have changed it a little but holy shit he beat mine
Forget the tracks where did you get that chipper mounted on the front? I must have one.
Very cool!!!!
Imagine the possibilities.... you could have your breakfast, brunch, lunch, dinner, and tea,... all before you ever get to the job,.. and when you finally get there,.. it'll be dark and time to come home! Nice machine,... needs a higher gear tho.
You get one slow ass garden tractor on tracks that can climb hills very well
Awesome
That is nice to have one of those and wonder how fast will it go though and does it have enough horse power to pull much.
spectacular!
Awesome! What did you use for the tracks?
imagine how much cooler it would be without the top gun song
