The hate is good for prices. A year later this laptop can be found for 60%+ off on the used market. It's a fantastic laptop and I've enjoyed every day with it.
When people say this is a terrible laptop or bad move by Dell..., what they really mean is just that it's not for THEM. I don't know why it's hard for people understand laptops are very subjective. For example, the most common complaint I see about all laptop reviews, is non-removable RAM. But I don't give a freaking crap about removable or not RAM, and im a huge laptop buff! I guarantee the new XPS will still sell hundreds of thousands of units to people that love it and don't have any complaints about the touchbar or keyboard. And yeah dell has high prices, but they come down quickly overtime, and for some people, price is not as important as being happy with the laptop. it's a premium model. Its not a bad laptop, its either for you or not.
Amazing review watching it on my xps14 😂 after debating a lot your livestream helped pull the trigger, this is the second laptop I've bought because of you, couple years back I got the yoga 9i (2021) because of your review.
Thanks for your review. An honest review that I found spot on. I purchased an XPS 14, 1tb of memory & OLED screen for $1,700. A lot of reviews bash the computer. I find that it is a really well designed machine that gets me through a full day of work. This is my 2nd XPS. Both have been excellent. I know the top row is a deal killer for some, but i find it does what it's supposed to do.
@@cameronbosch1213 Well, some care, some don't. That's an individual choice. I don't need ports that I don't use, just for "having them". I haven't used the headphone jack on my XPS 13 or MB Air 2020 once. The only thing I sometimes use is the Micro SD card reader on the XPS. The MB Air 2020 doesn't have one. Sure, an USB A port would be nice...but that's also not a deal breaker for me.
@@cameronbosch1213 also that depends on use case and personal preference. The Fn + Lock choice on the HPs is for me a much bigger issue than the capacitive function row. HP devices have huge issues with Linux. Dell BIOS is in my experience much better and polished, especially the thermal and Cpu management. The XPS Displays have so far been a significant amount brighter than the spectres. I've always had issues with HP touchpads. They often came lose after a while and became wobbely. And last but not least, I am quite pleased with the Dragonfly Look & Feel of my work laptop, but...my private XPS 9310 is just another level. I even do prefer it over the MacBook (which unfortunately has the worst keyboard of the 3 and sounds and feels shallow). The XPS just feels the most premium of all of them...and it is a factor for me. And I don't mind the price gap as long as the experience is there. I do love the battery runtime of the Dragonfly though. It is for sure not on the MB Air level but way better then the XPS... Therefore I am very much looking forward to the XPS 13 review with the new Intel processors combined with the 2k screen.
Thanks for all your time you spent on it to give us your nice reviews! For the display itself I wouldn't have given it 10 out of 10 due to the noticeable Screen Door Effect (Aka moire pattern/graininess on screen with light colours) ... If that wasn't there and still have the touch layer a 9,5... and with pen support a 10 ;)
@user-os9wp1up7w i have a mac for work and that notch is the last thing to break the deal that machine so reliable and so efficient with battery that sometimes it gets boring and i have to deliberately use a windows device just to remind myself how bad things are on the otherside. Still the modern standby does not work on windows hope things turn for better with xelite processors for windows users.
Dell tried to copy Apple and price it in line with MacBook pros, but they don't have Apple's customers who are ready to pay exhorbitant prices.... The drop in price shows that they are starting to understand that they were too greedy...
Awesome and honest review. Much appreciated!💯 I am a coder and I have been using an XPS 7590 for 5 years now. I am absolutely in love with it. Pretty sure my next laptop is going to be an XPS as well. Some really long term observations: - I have not observed any burn ins on my OLED screen. - Everything still works perfectly I mean the ports, the keyboard, the trackpad, the backlight, the screen. - performance has degraded a little bit but I think a cleanup should fix it. - the only problem I am facing since very recently is frequent BSODs. This is usually but not always complimented by the laptop heating up. A friend who has a newer xps model mentioned that he was facing the same issue and both of us agreed that this happened after a recent windows update. His problem went away after another windows update but mine hasn’t yet. If anybody has any suggestions please let me know. The absence of a physical ESC key is definitely a turn off for me as a coder but I have a monitor setup and I usually do all my typing on an external keyboard so shouldn’t be that bad. I love the XPS lineup since it has proven to be very reliable for me. Thanks Andrew and keep up the good work!!👍🏼
Thanks for trying to provide a different perspective. It pains me to say this as a long time dell user who had planned to get this, but No, even with the shallow price reduction dell is still taking the piss with this by pricing it exactly like the m3 pro which floors it in most practical metrics ( if not all ). The G14 gets my vote as the best 14-inch laptop so far this year.
I played around with the 14 inch in best buy and it looks great, keyboard felt great, and I preferred this over the 16 inch. Prices have come down so I may give it a go.
Thank you for your detailed review. As a singer, I especially liked hearing the audio from both MacBook Pro and XPS 14 one after another (not too different, imo). Maybe you could include some heavy-duty opera next time (Wagner, Berlioz), but this excerpt did allow me to hear differences.
I tried this exact config to compare with my XPS 15 9530 i9 and ended up returning it because I am a Lightroom user and the performance was quite a bit slower then my XPS 15
heavy for 14" only 6GB vram (DaVinci sometimes crashes when rendering 4k projects due to lack of video memory, 3D modeling software now often uses Redshift as a GPU renderer; it needs 8GB of video memory) In the end, we go for the Asus G14 if for some reason the Mac is not suitable for us. 8GB video memory, lighter
I've had a XPS-13 since 2016 (high resolution OLED!) and loved it. It aged well. 3 batteries and a new palm rest (got sticky) later it was time for an upgrade. Ultimately the 2 core CPU just didn't do well today. No screen burn in over 8 years. Alas I am a software developer and lack of a function key row was a deal breaker. That's a legitimate problem for some people like myself. They should correct this and I would have bought this one even if it is almost $1K more. The old XPS still looks great next to my new laptop (ended up with HP Spectre-14 which is one of many competitors today) and I expect the new one to hold up equally well. 14 inches is the better size.
As you are a software developer, how can you handle the Fn lock button on the shift key on the spectre? I have that on my dragonfly and it drives me crazy as it doesn't allow for very frequent coder key combinations like shift+end or shift+home. Is there a way to disable the Fn-Lock function in the bios?
as a fellow software dev, I opted for the yoga pro 9i 16 2024 and just got it in. I feel like 16 inch is a relief for the work I do, side by side windows etc. How is your experience on 14? It has been a while since I have used a 14 inch. In terms of size and weight, this thing is fairly light for a 16 inch, I think it's 2.05 KG.
@@Burbanana I do 95% of my work on a desktop and just use the laptop for on site work. I would have opted for a 16" as well if I did more work on the laptop. I seriously considered an older XPS-15 with a function row. The 14" screen is also taller than the XPS-13 16:10 which helps. Sometimes I ask a client for a second monitor if I'm going to do a lot of on-site work.
@@marcusst8809 I just discovered this "feature", ugh. In the BIOS you can set the function lock to "Auto" which allows it to be switched on/off or to "Enabled" and "Disabled" which I believe solves the problem. SH-CTRL-FN-HOME will bring you to the top of the file with the BIOS setting to disabled.
@@tscharf34685 many thanks! Can you please check if the Fn lock is then completely disabled or if it is just the initial value at boot? The key combinations do work though if you press shift first and then Fn (but not the other way around). But in a normal, fast typing flow, the result is not predictable. Everyone is complaining about the touch function row on the XPS...even though most will barely use it. But compared to the Fn-Lock situation on the spectre (and dragonfly), the capacitive buttons are unfortunately a smaller issue in my opinion... I am using the Dragonfly now for over 2 years and I cannot get used to it. Unfortunately, I cannot access the Bios as to company restrictions...
My lenovo ideapad has a i5 16gb memory and 1 tb storage. It also has a 3050. 1600p 16:10 display. Aluminum chasis. Bought for 900. Why is xps so expensive 😂
I agree with you about the reviews not giving this machine enough credit. I don't know what that is all about. but too many revieweare subjective. i looked at the intel arc model at best buy, tested the speakers and keyboar, and actually liked the feel of the keyboard, and was imperssed by the speakers. which is a deal breaker for me on laptops. i also loved the display. It looked better than most of th eother machines I looked at with oled. Thanks for your balanced review
With the battery life upgrade and three ports, Dell have finally fixed the XPS 13, well done Dell. The removal of the esc key is bizarre but on the flip side Dell managed to fit a 4050. Against the Spectre, you’d really need that 4050 to go for the XPS, against the Macbook Pro, you’d have to really want the Mac to justify it. A three way test at the 32Gb\2TB level would be good. The ASUS is a competent machine but I doubt the support is good enough.
is there a version that allows upgrade of the RAM and storage to larger capacity in the future if needed? Tryna decide If it make sense to choose one that I can upgrade the RAM vs buying one that as onboard RAM
The new Samsung Galaxy Book 4 360 still beats this Dell on many levels including a larger display (16"), lower weight (3.66lb), built in HDMI and USB A, better battery life, included pen, all in for at least $800 or more less. The specs for the 4050 are almost equivalent to the Intel ARC graphics so why pay more?
The build is better on the Dell XPS 14 and 16 than on the Samsung Galaxy Book4 Pro series. The displays are also better in my opinion. I feel like Samsung really dropped the ball the last couple of years and produced very uninspired laptops.
The Lenovo Yoga Pro 7i Gen 9 (starting at £1,035) is a good alternative to this. Can be configured with up to Intel Ultra 9 185H, 32GB RAM, 1TB NVME, 14.5" 2.8K 120Hz OLED Display and RTX 4050.
Wow, just checked that out now. 32gb, ultra 7, 1tb , rtx for £1453 is a spectacular deal. I already got the proX with same specs but Ryzen 6800hs for £700 on clearance when the former was only available with Integrated Arc graphics. My itch is scratched😅
Nice review! It's sad we can't get at least 90hz or at least miniled on the macbook air's. Those performance scores at 12:25 vs the macbooks.. are those on battery life? Or would they have the same performance on battery? I keep watching reviews where they show how they drop about 50 percent performance when unplugged.. unlike the Macbook air's.
These numbers are with the devices plugged in in high performance mode. I can do a video with the numbers showing plugged in vs. on battery if I get enough demand.
@andrewmarcdavid Yes, do an unplugged test. Everyone is saying no performance on battery. We need an honest broker like you to give the real facts. One review of 14 inch compared it to Mac Book Air 15 but never even plugged in the 14 and even then it was close.
@@andrewmarcdavid No I get that but as in an overall package what would you recommend? Considering the prices, I am leaning towards Spectre. What are your views?
I got the Spectre 14 with 32GB ram, 1 TB SSD, core Ultra 7 for $1363 including tax from HP. Helluva deal (you can get student 5% off without email verification). Great speakers, great keyboard, haptic touchpad, great OLED, solid build. AMD gave it high marks as well
Nice laptop. Camera and mics are good. It goes to show if they could put a 1080 camera in this laptop they probably could have put a 1080 camera in their previous years' models. Do not care for the capacitive row. Display is very good. Speakers do get loud no doubt but the sound at that level sounded a little distorted. Probably at a slightly lower volume distortion would not be there. I think Dell purposely priced these with a higher list price then lowered the list price so potential buyers would think they are getting a "great" deal on these. I think it is a pychological move Dell made to increase sales on these. This still might be a little pricey but do not get me wrong this is still a very nice pc. Grea review
I have configured the same as yours,Ultra 7 with 32GB RAM,RTX 4050 and 1TB Storage in Graphite colour but 60hz OLED,only when i switch to Platinum it shows the option for 48-120hz OLED,why this is so ?
I'm surprised some reviews were so much more negative than this one. If you frame it as something smaller than the MacBook Air being more performant in many ways than the M3 Pro MacBook Pro, it's an impressive package. Somewhat worse battery life but that's what you can do with Intel right now, and it's still a workday for most people.
As someone who has 2023 xps 15 and a dell latitude 9440 I do not like the Haptic Touch pad and prefer the more conventional touch pad. You cannot easily use the haptic tp with one hand. On the other hand I do love the zero lattice keyboard more. The ones talking about battery life… the xps has never had that for its strength except the older 13in models. If you want battery life don’t do the 3k oled display. The touchbar is a misstep but you definitely get used to it. Also you cannot compare this to a MacBook. The xps is much more versatile than a mac
The backlash isn't from the laptop directly, the price create a lot "IF..." and comparison with similarly priced laptops. If i weren't broke i would buy one i just love the design.
Dell laptops are not bad and the 2024 Dell XPS 14 (9440) is a perfect example of that. The best time to order any Dell laptop is when they go on sale as Dell periodically runs sales on their website. This laptop has a lot going for it from a beautiful design with the extra thin bezels to a gorgeous 3.2K OLED display, a 120Hz refresh rate and finally a 1080p webcam which is crystal clear as well as the internal mics. The RAM is unfortunately soldered in but at least it's the faster RAM. Your best bet with the RAM is to make sure you upgrade to the 32GB version during the ordering process. You do get the option at least to upgrade the SSD though. While the internal quad speakers are good for a Windows machine, however, it is still not a match to the MacBook Pro which is the king of speaker sound. In closing, the 2024 Dell XPS 14 (9440) laptop is certainly worth your consideration. Excellent work Andrew!! 👍😁
maybe lower resolution? lower the hertz? reduce or increase the brightness? change the blue light level? put a blue light reducer config in windows or flux. maybe make intense colours less intense through screen config options?
hi useful video as always. just one question so far, when you present the PugentBench for Resolve, is this the standard or the extended version of their benchmark?
I love xps14 design, i love that they do usb-c 100w charger. But, i couldn’t stand for that outdate entry panel for that price. They should have just give us the oled panel at that price.
Is it just me or did Dell leave the prices back to what they were for the XPS 16? I don't like this at all, maybe on Black Friday they will have it for sale -500 dollars because I love everything about the machine, but the competition is strong.
I planned to buy this in July as I commented below, but lately I have learned about Copilot+ PCs. Seems like Intel and Microsoft made a fool of us by encouraging us to buy Al PC with Meteor Lake, and then there came info that Meteor Lake's NPU chip will be much too slow to run the new real AI features! Now I'm not sure if it's still worthy to buy XPS 9440 now - after all this buzz about Copilot+ PCs, it seems better to wair for 'XPS 9450' with Lunar Lake :(
If you don't need this laptop for Windows only software or games, MacBook Pro is the choice. I bought XPS only for 3D scanning (scanner software support only windows). If not this, I would stick to my MacBook M3 Pro all the way (it's just faster and more reliable).
Is the new xps 14 a 14.4 inch screen?. Would you be able to do a side by side video of the size to last years model?. I do have the xps 9520 but would love that 120hz screen on the 14. Is it much smaller?
why how much you use those keys except escape? MacBooks don't even have delete key. The change is to improve the thermals on the pc. improves temperature and perormance as well as aesthetics and has some functionality cost on buttons less used with expception of escape.
if this is the first xps 14, why is it not start with 9400 but 9440..? like 9550... 9560 ...then back to 9510, 9520...?....?...? then no more? what if I want the old chasis and upgradability on new model?
Thanks for another great review, AMD! Kudos for talking about the very important battery life aspect. Definitely surprising for a discreet GPU version with OLED. 🤙🏻
all dell had to do was add the function row back, and they'd win over a lot of people. why the OLED screen is not available with the base model is beyond me. skipping this computer. want to return to a proper windows machine, but I'm sticking with macbooks for a little longer. does this laptop suffer from "screen-door effect" with white content too?
The only thing this laptop lacks for 100% happiness is no 2-in-1 design and no pen support. In this respect, I would lean towards the HP Spectre x360, but I am willing to sacrifice this functionality for Dell, planning to purchase the XPS 9440 in July. Why? Because I don't trust any other brand. Only Dell offers such great durability, stability and, above all, EXTRAORDINARY WARRANTY SERVICE! It is not without reason that most global corporations use Dell equipment.
I tried the new XPS 14 from bestbuy $2,400 model and it was terrible. The battery lasted about 2-3hrs under heavy use and the fan ran full power nonstop. The fan is so loud. I had to return it and get the MacBook pro 14. Night and day difference in performance, battery life, fan noise, and display quality. The MacBook is so much better. I do not recommend this new Dell XPS for engineering or architecture work. 💯
I just ordered the XPS 9530 of last year at discount and it has WiFi 6, not even 6E, do you mean that is not future proof?! What sort of future are you talking about exactly please, will WiFi6.0 be problematic in 5 years?!
@@andrewmarcdavid Thsnks, it sctually came with 6E,even if the specs said 6. Very happy so far, apart from an occasional blinking screen issue which I think I have resolved, fingers crossed.
The Keyboard... Looks beautiful but impractical, I don't understand Dell's strategy on Keyboard. The keyboard is the most important tool we use on everyday, please fix it..
I’m starting to dislike these review Vlogs 🤣 Every time I think I have narrowed it down to a single laptop, a new vlog comes out and I’m back to deciding again 🤣🤣 Good job on your videos 🫵🏻
You should next review , ASUS Zenbook S 13 2024 with ultra processor , curious to know its performance and battery life with new processor. This is the lightest laptop in the market
Why did they copy the touchbar after it literally failed at apple? Also on trackpad pls add borders....and i hope not butterfly keyboard which also failed at apple
Always going to be people finding a fault somewhere. I don't know why we are comparing though to a MacBook Pro as it's a completely different spec and infrastructure and running a different os.
This is a good looking laptop. It’s gorgeous but it’s not functional. The capacitive keys on top are a fail and are the big deal breaker. And the downgrade to micro sd is silly and makes photos editors turn to alternatives. The trackpad is beautiful and easy to get used to. Dell has made a laptop that power users used to love into a nice looking, very expensive chromebook. This is no longer a creators laptop
I am honestly embrassed by how many reviewers seem to be reviewing this so falsely positive in such an out of touch way. There are so many problems with the 2024 XPS laptops that I don't even know where to start. But I'll try. 1. The design is going to be divisive. I personally dont like it, but I'll admit that this point is very subjective, so _your_ mileage may vary. 2. Get rid of the touch row. There's no good reason to have it when control alt delete is an important key combination and escape is used so often that even Apple had to bring that key out of the touch bar as a physical key before they finally killed the touch bar altogether. 3. That invisible touchpad is not only frustrating to use, if you have vision problems, you literally cannot use this laptop. Also, the touchpad once again seems to have QC issues, as shown by Just Josh's review, where his XPS 16's was horrible and the XPS 14's was not as bad. 4. The port selection, especially on the XPS 13 and 16, is embarrassing. The 13 doesn't have enough ports at all and the 16 should have a full sized SD card slot, not a microSD card slot. I mean, even Apple reversed course on this! 5. Why does the XPS 13 & 16 get Wi-Fi 7 but not the 14? Dell, fix that shit immediately; give the XPS 14 Wi-Fi 7! 6. The upgradability, particularly on the XPS 16, is a massive downgrade from the XPS 15/17. Not only is all of the RAM soldered, but there's now only one SSD slot instead of two. This is a massive issue for people like me who might have wanted to dual boot thd system without having to partition a drive, because to upgrade to a bigger drive requires cloning the SSD or reinstalling Windows. Not to mention how expensive RAM upgrades are, especially for 64 GB. 7. The performance on the XPS 16 is embarrassing. Not only is the GPU super low wattage on the 14 & 16, but the 16 no longer has an RTX GPU with more than 8 GB of vRAM. This leads me to my final point. 8. The XPS lineup feels like Dell's MacBook Air alternative, not a MacBook Pro alternative. Dell needs to completely change course on this laptop series, because they're in for a rude awakening if they don't.
man.. why does dell always do this stupid , these laptops are high end professional ones mostly used either for software development or editing. its annoying that you have a touch bar.. hated one on the macbook pros before, always had to use an external keyboard because of that. now the new macbook pro 16 is the best laptop. hoped dell would match that but no.. they want to bring in the stupidest touch bar no one wants
to sum it up in 5 seconds, its the copied version of the latitude 9440 released out in 2023, with the XPS removing the function row for a capacitive ones
@@andrewmarcdavid yes, you are right, kinda forgotten about it as that was the base before they roll out the zero lattice keyboard to the latitude range. great video btw, it was your review that had made me purchase the 9440 when i saw how great it was. the 9450 is an upgrade to the 9440, but there is only just one change to it - being AI capable (and also the co pilot physical button that now replaces the right control key on the keyboard) great honest review from you and your editing team. lots of love here from myself and my family here in malaysia :)
I guess the newer laptops have more brightness. 40% is too dim for me to enjoy the screen. When I'm typing or reading text, I will still keep it at above 50%, maybe 70%, only when I have to read or type for prolonged periods of time, which is rare.
What sub-brands were they? I've owned 2 Dell Inspiron and 2 Latitudes over 15 years, and only 1 broke down (2nd Inspiron). Latitudes are rocks, just solid.

@marcusst8809 Then you'll likely not need something like an XPS. Something like an HP Spectre 14 is cheaper and better imo.
If that wasn't there and still have the touch layer a 9,5... and with pen support a 10 ;)
I like the XPS line but you are literally trying to defend something indefensible...
I am not defending anything. I am giving my opinion.
That keyboard is deal breaker for me.
the mac book notch is indefensible buddy
@user-os9wp1up7w i have a mac for work and that notch is the last thing to break the deal that machine so reliable and so efficient with battery that sometimes it gets boring and i have to deliberately use a windows device just to remind myself how bad things are on the otherside. Still the modern standby does not work on windows hope things turn for better with xelite processors for windows users.
The notch is absolute trash dude completely ruins it. Would never buy it with a notch blocking the screen@@mutchlouis9707
Dell tried to copy Apple and price it in line with MacBook pros, but they don't have Apple's customers who are ready to pay exhorbitant prices.... The drop in price shows that they are starting to understand that they were too greedy...
Business genius
Awesome and honest review. Much appreciated!💯
I am a coder and I have been using an XPS 7590 for 5 years now. I am absolutely in love with it. Pretty sure my next laptop is going to be an XPS as well.
Some really long term observations:
- I have not observed any burn ins on my OLED screen.
I love the look of the Dell XPS 14.
I tried this exact config to compare with my XPS 15 9530 i9 and ended up returning it because I am a Lightroom user and the performance was quite a bit slower then my XPS 15
heavy for 14"
only 6GB vram (DaVinci sometimes crashes when rendering 4k projects due to lack of video memory, 3D modeling software now often uses Redshift as a GPU renderer; it needs 8GB of video memory)
In the end, we go for the Asus G14 if for some reason the Mac is not suitable for us.
CNC vs Stamped aluminum is a pretty big difference for the rigidity of a laptop chassis
17:41 dear god they really need to fix the matte keyboard wear and permagreasing problem on MacBook keys
Thanks for your test. I also got a xps 14 9440 with arc and 3.2k screen. But the memory clock of my xps is only 5600mhz, I don't know why.
Only models with RTX 4050 run the faster RAM
@@andrewmarcdavidbut the normal ram should be 6400 rather than 5600
I agree with you about the reviews not giving this machine enough credit.
So far so good you are one of the best laptop reviews I know. Anyone reading this comment I recommend this guy👌
Thanks!
I loved how you deliberately zoomed in on the thumbnail of F*ck iPhone😂
For a portable computer, I actually purchased the Aero 14 and I have been happy with it.
Hey Andrew. Should I go for the Spectre x360 14 or XPS 14?
They are very different tyoes of laptops to be honest
@@andrewmarcdavid No I get that but as in an overall package what would you recommend? Considering the prices, I am leaning towards Spectre. What are your views?
@@AbhishekTiwari-cq6dz Spectre is a great choice as it also has versatility as a convertible and pen support
I got the Spectre 14 with 32GB ram, 1 TB SSD, core Ultra 7 for $1363 including tax from HP. Helluva deal (you can get student 5% off without email verification). Great speakers, great keyboard, haptic touchpad, great OLED, solid build. AMD gave it high marks as well
Thanks a lot Andrew!!

Grea review
How is Linux compatibility for this laptop?
I have configured the same as yours,Ultra 7 with 32GB RAM,RTX 4050 and 1TB Storage in Graphite colour but 60hz OLED,only when i switch to Platinum it shows the option for 48-120hz OLED,why this is so ?
I'm surprised some reviews were so much more negative than this one. If you frame it as something smaller than the MacBook Air being more performant in many ways than the M3 Pro MacBook Pro, it's an impressive package. Somewhat worse battery life but that's what you can do with Intel right now, and it's still a workday for most people.
Good review, can you do a review of the Inspiron model?
Almost done
Which one would you go ? Dell xps 14 or HP Spectre X360 14?
Thanks Rafael
Is this also tandem oled?
@ Andrew, I absolutely love my Dell XPS 14. Having one really big issue. The screen seems to be hurting my eyes? Is this a big issue? What dan i do?
maybe lower resolution? lower the hertz? reduce or increase the brightness? change the blue light level? put a blue light reducer config in windows or flux. maybe make intense colours less intense through screen config options?
hi useful video as always. just one question so far, when you present the PugentBench for Resolve, is this the standard or the extended version of their benchmark?
Standard
@@andrewmarcdavid many thanks. I have been running some benchmarks with this $699 G14 Asus special so this will be helpful to compare.
While the speakers have good spacial audio/Dolby Atmos sound, the computer lacks a good bass response. Sounds thin to me. I just got mine today.
nice piece, is this dell worth the $ or just go buy the hp spectre 14? thank you
If you have money in abundance, just buy the XPS. It's feels a bit more premium.
Great review and a very honest one at that. Looks a great machine. Wonder what the size is like against the xps 15 of last year.
Is the new xps 14 a 14.4 inch screen?. Would you be able to do a side by side video of the size to last years model?. I do have the xps 9520 but would love that 120hz screen on the 14. Is it much smaller?
Can you review the Acer Swift X16 OLED and Swift Go 16 OLED?
The haptic "Touchbar" would be a dealbreaker for me
I thought I would hate it. But it's been a few days and now I've gotten used to it. I still wonder why Dell didn't add haptic feedback though...
Me too and I love this line of laptops. I have 2 of them. I won’t buy this one
it's not even haptic. That's the problem.
why how much you use those keys except escape? MacBooks don't even have delete key.
The change is to improve the thermals on the pc. improves temperature and perormance as well as aesthetics and has some functionality cost on buttons less used with expception of escape.
I would love to have esc key with physical button
if this is the first xps 14, why is it not start with 9400 but 9440..? like 9550... 9560 ...then back to 9510, 9520...?....?...? then no more? what if I want the old chasis and upgradability on new model?
Theu used to have a 14 inch about 12 years or so ago
Great review! One question: How much are you really getting from a 30W 4050 vs the Intel Arc (graphic tradeoff vs heat and battery)?
It depends on what you need. For 4K video editing it makes a difference
Don't think I'll be doing that, or playing any games, with this machine. May just save a couple of bucks and go with the Arc. Thanks for the reply!
Best laptop series and best laptop reviewer, thank You Andrew!
Wow, thanks!
Thanks for another great review, AMD! Kudos for talking about the very important battery life aspect. Definitely surprising for a discreet GPU version with OLED. 🤙🏻
The Xps 13 doesn't have the same camera than 14 y 16?
all dell had to do was add the function row back, and they'd win over a lot of people. why the OLED screen is not available with the base model is beyond me. skipping this computer. want to return to a proper windows machine, but I'm sticking with macbooks for a little longer.
does this laptop suffer from "screen-door effect" with white content too?
I bought samsung book4 pro
I'm Macbook pro user, my laptop is old now (2017)
Actually Apple chrges 400 to double ram to 36. If you try to get the m3 14 with 24 gigs of ram and 1 tb storage, it's 2499.
Apple MacBook Air M3 13" is better than Dell XPS 14" ?
It will be fine.
@@andrewmarcdavid Thsnks, it sctually came with 6E,even if the specs said 6. Very happy so far, apart from an occasional blinking screen issue which I think I have resolved, fingers crossed.
Very good spec and performance but at a steep price. It has better audio quality than the MAC in my opinion
Also about the touchpad. On the XPS 13 plus they have got a touchpad firmware update which has significantly updated the feel and use of the touchpad.
Love the design but it really feels like they went too far with form over function and that it is a bit overpriced for the performance it offers.
Thank Andrew! be well.
The Keyboard... Looks beautiful but impractical, I don't understand Dell's strategy on Keyboard. The keyboard is the most important tool we use on everyday, please fix it..
I’m starting to dislike these review Vlogs 🤣
Every time I think I have narrowed it down to a single laptop, a new vlog comes out and I’m back to deciding again 🤣🤣
Good job on your videos 🫵🏻
Still waiting for the non DGPU 13'' XPS review.
I don't see the value in this over an Asus g14.
A great choice as well. I love that laptop. The speakers are amazing.
You should next review , ASUS Zenbook S 13 2024 with ultra processor , curious to know its performance and battery life with new processor. This is the lightest laptop in the market
It looks like the 13 plus…which might still the upperhand design wise
Why did they copy the touchbar after it literally failed at apple? Also on trackpad pls add borders....and i hope not butterfly keyboard which also failed at apple
You should write to your local congressman.
This or Samsung - Galaxy Book4 Pro 14" AMOLED??????
Amoled display has longer lifespan
Plus Samsung is cheaper, I bought book4 from Amazon US for 1145 USD
Dell is too expensive
Always going to be people finding a fault somewhere. I don't know why we are comparing though to a MacBook Pro as it's a completely different spec and infrastructure and running a different os.
Waiting for Thinkpad X1 2 in 1 gen 9 review
Lenovo > Dell especially keyboard. Key travel is good but that look of drawn key covers cut out with a cookie cutter doesn't look good.
It looks like a great laptop, but they need to get rid of the MacBook style touch bar.
Fully agree.
Fancy, but pricey laptop.
To adhere to Apple's upgrade policy is truly criminal on Dell's part
There is no upgrades with Apple unless you pay the Apple Tax as the SSD is soldered in. With Dell you can put your own SSD and save money.
There is only one reason that I wont grab this laptop is my budget 😂
No F keys is just absurd.
see it is better than the omen
2400 dollars for a 4050 is crazy
Capacitive top row keys absolutely suck! Didn't Dell learn anything from Apple?
That's a macbook pro. what is that design.
??
Soldered wifi 6e in 2024 is a deal-breaker... what a dumb decision!
It's really not a huge deal
man.. why does dell always do this stupid , these laptops are high end professional ones mostly used either for software development or editing. its annoying that you have a touch bar.. hated one on the macbook pros before, always had to use an external keyboard because of that. now the new macbook pro 16 is the best laptop. hoped dell would match that but no.. they want to bring in the stupidest touch bar no one wants
xps 13 vs 14
to sum it up in 5 seconds, its the copied version of the latitude 9440 released out in 2023, with the XPS removing the function row for a capacitive ones
Actually the Latitude copied the XPS 13 Plus from 2022
I have the new Latitude 9450 coming tomorrow
@@andrewmarcdavid yes, you are right, kinda forgotten about it as that was the base before they roll out the zero lattice keyboard to the latitude range. great video btw, it was your review that had made me purchase the 9440 when i saw how great it was. the 9450 is an upgrade to the 9440, but there is only just one change to it - being AI capable (and also the co pilot physical button that now replaces the right control key on the keyboard)

Brightness set to 40%?? Is anything visible on the screen at 40% brightness. I've never used a laptop at a brightness less than 100%, ever.
40% is very usable.

I guess the newer laptops have more brightness. 40% is too dim for me to enjoy the screen. When I'm typing or reading text, I will still keep it at above 50%, maybe 70%, only when I have to read or type for prolonged periods of time, which is rare.
