The mom defending her kid after he made the threat online is one of the major problems with this generation. If the cops showed up to my door when I was a kid and told my parents I made a comment like that, my dad would have beat my ass right in front of the cops and then waved goodbye as I was carted off to jail.

The thing that gets teenagers in the most trouble is thinking adults are oblivous and stupid--like their mom, or their dad, or their teachers never tried to get away with anything when they were younger. I hid a carton of cigarettes in the air vent in my room when I was 15, because I saw it in a movie and thought it was really slick. It was one of the first places my dad looked when I came home reeking of cigarette smoke. Turns out I had put the cover plate on upside down, and my dad homed in on it the second he looked in that direction.

Last day of school this year for my oldest daughter I got a phone call right as my husband was taking her to school about "threats" some kids made. I had him turn right around and bring her back home. I felt really bad about her missing the last day but that school is notorious for violence and the staff doing absolutely nothing. I wasn't going to take a chance that one of those kids brought a gun. When I called the school to get some paperwork I needed for her and when they asked where she was I explained how unsafe that school is and how I didn't want her to get shot up. Needless to say it was a short conversation and they emailed me the paperwork.

The kid likely switched the cart with his vape because the boy said it was black n white where as the vape was pink n yellow but I guarantee it was delta 8 thc, cali dispos started pushing delta 8 a few years back because its not “thc” its a genetically altered subcompound of thc which has many similar effects although notably it does make or give the person smoking it a very distorted perception on reality which i recently saw in a family member. It's fair to say that wasn't a joke, that was a declaration; he, full name, PROMISED, location, number of victims. They take those things very seriously, especially after Parkland where there was so much warning online leading up to the shooting. He will most likely get help, but for right now he's going to jail for terroristic threatening.
I do get that a lot of kids are saying things online they shouldn't be, but it's hard for the police to sort through who's serious and who's joking, especially when there really is a gun in the home.

What schools need.. is armed professional security guards, metal detectors like they have at airports, police dogs (in their specific fields.. i have seen those videos too.. and it always shocked me how good these dogs are at what they do.. i wouldnt be surprised if they can smell fake currency at this point)
