It was really cool to see the LNER Flying Scotsman touring the United States. And it’s almost the 100th birthday of Flying Scotsman. Only a couple days away. It would be cool to see a American steam locomotive to tour around the world like Flying Scotsman. We all know the Union Pacific Big Boy 4014 and LNER Flying Scotsman are equally famous in the whole world.
There is an ex-US Army steamer running in the Worth Valley Railway. It’s having an Indian summer, hauling Pullmans through Brontë country. It’s also been to Poland. Must admit it’s quite funny to hear the American hooter in Yorkshire!
This footage is amazing! Such high quality footage for its time with sound where we get to hear its North American whistle, also in high quality. In this video, we also get to see some of the final footage of Flying Scotsman's cowcatcher painted red and some of the first footage of its cowcatcher painted black since the repainting of its cowcatcher from red to black was done in St. Louis and this video is of Flying Scotsman in Missouri in 1970. Very nice narration too!
The exhibition train comprosed 1 Corridor Brake Composite (BCK), 5 Thompson LNER full brakes (as the exhibition coaches), 2 Pullman Cars, and one of the former 'Devon Belle' observation cars, so 9 coaches in all.
wow this is great footage i saw the Scotsman in Toronto that year at the CNE what a thrill one of the best British locomotives bought a ho scale model of that same year
first video I found with the whistle I was looking for finally found it 5:02 thank you so much for the video. but if I can find more that will be good and if I can find a video of her with the bell that will be good as well
0:44 This LNER Gresley A3 Pacific Express Steam Locomotive Flying Scotsman Built In 1923 From The London And North Eastern Railway Design By Sir Nigel Gresley Is Now Preserved At The National Railway Museum In York In Yorkshire In England In The United Kingdom. Thanks Mate. Ps This Engine Flying Scotsman Is A Bit Like Gordon The Big Engine From Thomas The Tank Engine And Friends The Original Series In 1984 In The Late 1980's In The 20th Century. Old School Times Man. X
I saw her in the flesh as she was steaming through my town back in 2018. an Icon of steam for sure. The other steam loco mentioned the City of Truro, is named after the city i was born in.
The correct name is the "London and North Eastern Railway" - L N E R. I remember seeing the "Flying Moneypit" at Twickenham in 1969 when it collected some of the exhibition train coaches.
It was a 3 chime whistle, at one point presented by the Southern Railway. I believe 2 were used, a Hancock step top, and a bullet top Powell or Linkenheimer.
@@daskriegsman7013 Exactly what the first two do, but instead of two cylinders the engine has three. There are examples of American engines with three cylinders, arguably the most notable being the Shays. Three cylinders make for more even power distribution as there are six power strokes instead of four, all set so no two hit dead center at the same time.

Gauge limits means very few American engines would fit in England
@@DynamoProductions-trains I know that, honestly.
When was this

Just 10 years or so ago, there was maybe one or two videos on RUclips of this excursion. I love that more and more videos are surfacing now

And today, Scotsman turns 100.
As beautiful and famous the Scotsman is, it feels so out of place in the US
I can't remember if you said it in the video, but what chime whistle was Scotsman fitted with?

Wasnt expecting uk engines! I dont expect a lot like 148 witch was made yesterday. I think
Very nice video :)
Thanks
I've always wondered why some British steam locomotives have such off beat chuffing. Why is that?
Third cylinder
@@DynamoProductions-trains Oh. What's that do?

@@DynamoProductions-trains I knew the UP 9000 had one. Didn't know the Shays did.
SP 4-10-2s had 3 cylinders as well
I've seen this train in real life! (not in LNER)
A sincere message to all concerned: Learn well from this almost tragic mistake and LEAVE SCOTT AT HOME WHERE HE BELONGS!!!!
