When he says Marty did listen to Chris Poland's takes on the songs, I check them out, and you can hear some ideas in the final record, specially on Take no prisoners. But still is Marty's version and imprint.
@@vicrattlehead6386 of course, two completely different players. Poland's solos on the demos are amazing as well, but very improvised, without any kind of shape or direction, more like licks runs rather than a solo

Great interview Graham. I'll be honest, I'd be nervous as hell to interview Dave Mustaine. He is just such a huge presence. But you did super well with your questions and professionalism.
I saw the classic lineup on the Oxidation of the Nations tour in February 1991 at the Enmore theatre in Sydney. I had just marched out of Kapooka and was awaiting my Signallers course at the School of Artillery in Many. Happy days!
Great interview , got to pick this book up. Saw that tour 1991, on the Clash of the Titans tour in Iowa. Was my third time seeing them, 86,88 before that. Met Marty and Nick after the show, got their autographs. Good times for METAL.

@Epiphany Party Yeah, I've heard the rumors, but this is he first time I'm hearing (reading) them firsthand. I became a fan in the mid-'80s and it was already commonly known he was a dick. Thanks for commenting.
@Epiphany Party Wow, that bad, eh? And I can only imagine what was going through your mind at that time. I've been INCREDIBLY lucky with the musicians I've met and/or became genuine friends with; Kurt Cobain gave me a sweater at a dumpy little garage kegger Nirvana played at. They were still working Bleach. Chris Cornell was quiet, polite, and gave me free tix when they sold out here in Seattle. Then there's Layne Staley, one of my closest friends ever. I can't talk about him or I'll get all emotional, lol. I'm sorry Mustaine was a dick to you, but as long as you've never lost your passion for metal... You're all good. 😉🤘(Also, sorry for the life story I just typed, lmao. If you read til the end, you're fkn awesome and I appreciate ya. :)
@Epiphany Party Holy shit, you seriously need to write a book. I bet you've been a fly on the wall for some amazing convos/interactions. If Dave or ANYONE yelled at my kid I'd punch 'em in the throat! Kurt and Layne died before my kids were born, unfortunately, because my 13 son is huge into Nirvana. He also likes Manson, TOOL, SoaD... Yeeeeah, I'm bragging a little, ha! My daughter (27) is into all that rap bullshit. I thought it was a phase!!! 😂 You're so right on about the memories... We'll always have those. A couple months ago I started writing down my "band stories"; I never wanna forget, and my son is super impressed. Haha Hey chick, have a great day, thanks for your stories and I'm sorry you worked so hard for Dave and got so little in return. No wonder James booted him!!

Hey Dave thanks for making a record that made history in my life time...almost 50 and still listening to this album like around the time that it was released .
jenbunny1984 Peaces Sells... and Rust in Piece are phenomenal albums (Megadeth has a lot of those), but if I had to pick a favorite with zero thinking involved, it would be a tie between Killing is my Business and Countdown to Extinction. One is a fantastic debut, and the other is probably the most Megadeth-sounding record in their whole discography.

Greatest rhythm metal guitarist all time, all due respects to Hettfield, Ian. Those gentlemen couldn’t hold Dave’s jock musically imo...Brilliant musicianship...His rhythm playing is better than most Lead players.
LOL watch Paranoid live, he struggles picking 16ths. Not even in the same league. He couldn't play Master of Puppets or Blackened if his life depended on it.
@@mrmustard4478 everyone has off days, and we all know Hetfield is the king of down picking. You ever see them play Liar live? That's some fast down picking from mustaine. @MrMustard.Not to mention he hires some of the best guitarists in the world! Chris, Marty, Chis B, Kiko...all those guys are as good as it gets & i would put all but Poland in front of Hammett! Kirk Hammett can’t survive without a wah pedal. & i disagree whole heartedly Mustaine in the 80’s taught Hettfield . Malcolm Young is the rythym king.. Wake Up Dead 4 Lf...
The new lineup with Kiko and Dirk is the absolute best since Marty and Nick and quite possibly their next album is the most anticipated since countdown because of the lineup!

When he says Marty did listen to Chris Poland's takes on the songs, I check them out, and you can hear some ideas in the final record, specially on Take no prisoners. But still is Marty's version and
imprint.
yes. anyone who has listened to Marty before, during and after his time in megadeth would know that Dave is completely bullshitting.
Chris solo on RIP demo sounds like he played 80s Casio keyboard. Sounds nothing like Friedman solo.
@@vicrattlehead6386 of course, two completely different players. Poland's solos on the demos are amazing as well, but very improvised, without any kind of shape or direction, more like licks runs rather than a solo
Really interesting insight to Justis Mustaine being very critical about the most recent albums and telling Dave they could be heavier. Almost like a mini manager/producer
Last time i was this early he was still in MetallicA
Lmao
lmao true
@LeafyIsBanned yeah
What?!
No warning?
No Second chance?
wow this is probably one of the best interviews I've ever seen here on RUclips ever rip nick menza
It's sad because now we'll never get to see the Rust In Peace lineup again. (RIP Nick Menza)
Great interview Graham. I'll be honest, I'd be nervous as hell to interview Dave Mustaine. He is just such a huge presence. But you did super well with your questions and professionalism.
Rust In Peace is hands down the best metal album of all time, excited for the new one!
I saw the classic lineup on the Oxidation of the Nations tour in February 1991 at the Enmore theatre in Sydney. I had just marched out of Kapooka and was awaiting my Signallers course at the School of Artillery in Many. Happy days!
Dave is a legend! Rust In Peace is one of my favorite albums of any genre.
I just listened to the book on audio book. It was phenomenal! Everyone reads their own parts. I absolutely loved it!
I’m amazed Dave is still alive, coherent, and still as lucid as ever.
Great interview , got to pick this book up. Saw that tour 1991, on the Clash of the Titans tour in Iowa. Was my third time seeing them, 86,88 before that. Met Marty and Nick after the show, got their autographs. Good times for METAL.
Rust in Peace is a masterpiece love it. I am glad that Dave got clean and sober. Dave is a great dude sober!
This is awesome - really great interview. Megadeth made some incredible records back in the day. I still listen to Rust in Peace every week. Respect to Dave for chatting at such a relaxed level here. Total respect to a true legend.
Can't wait to hear the new material! :)
My three favorite Megadeth albums:
Rust in Peace... The best thrash metal album ever.
United Abominations... Megadeth's return to making thrash...damn solid album
Peace Sells.... The first Megadeth album that I ever owned...still awesome.
i wish he would go back to playing songs off united its a very under rated album
This guy knows UA is underrated.
Thx Loudwire, you really made my day with a new Megadeth video.👍👍
All respect to Dave but he really does say that the band he's in at the time has the most chemistry..I get it, but in all honesty when Marty and Nick were in the band was without a doubt the best line up.
The original lineup is and always will be the best
@@jlobiafra yeah Gar And Chris I think maybe made slightly better music, I still think the chemistry with Nick and Marty is unprecedented.
@@boopah4365 I started listening to megadeth when killing is my business came out so I'll admit I'm biased towards the original line up. Personally I still think Peace Sells is their best album, no offense to rust in peace
@@jlobiafra yeah me too, I've been following Dave since his Metallica days..let's just agree they're both kick ass albums.
@@boopah4365 agreed
Dave Mustaine is an awesome guy! I’ve always loved Megadeth! One of my eternal favorites!
Keep killin it!!!! Great interview Graham!
Love him or hate him, ya can't change the fact that Mustaine is a fkn legend.
Also, Peace Sells is, imo, their best album. 🤘🖤😈
WAIT! I almost forgot about So Far, So Good, So What! THAT'S probably my favorite. Shit, it's so hard to pick just one, lol.
You're so right on about the memories... We'll always have those. A couple months ago I started writing down my "band stories"; I never wanna forget, and my son is super impressed. Haha
Hey chick, have a great day, thanks for your stories and I'm sorry you worked so hard for Dave and got so little in return. No wonder James booted him!!
@Epiphany Party OMG, I would LOVE that! Also, we'll be able to tell the stories that we can't say on RUclips.😇LOL.
I'll hit you up later today. Now hurry up and erase your email address...ya never know what kinda freak will grab it, too. (I mean REAL freaks, not the cool kind, lmao)
Ttys sister!
No matter what happens with anything, ever, Dave...I will always look up to you. Always.
I misread the title and believed the poor guy passed away.
xd
Thank god that wasn't the case.
they did this on purpoesoe
The poor guy? No respect for Dave sheesh
Awesome interview, Nice work Graham!
Rust in Peace is what first comes to mind when I think of a "perfect album".
Hey Dave thanks for making a record that made history in my life time...almost 50 and still listening to this album like around the time that it was released .
I’m a Peace Sells...But Who’s Buying girl but I love Rust In Peace too!!!
jenbunny1984 Peaces Sells... and Rust in Piece are phenomenal albums (Megadeth has a lot of those), but if I had to pick a favorite with zero thinking involved, it would be a tie between Killing is my Business and Countdown to Extinction. One is a fantastic debut, and the other is probably the most Megadeth-sounding record in their whole discography.
Richard Sinclair I love Killing is my Business too!! I think people overlook SFSGSW as well!! Megadeth just had some great gems 💎
@@jenbunny1984 I'm with you! I loved so far so good so what! Never understood the lack of respect for that one!!
Jack Tunney Yes indeed! Great songs!!!
Peace sells... absolutley crushes it
Rust is a masterpiece in its own rights... but peace sells was the one that got me hooked on megadeth for sure
cant wait to see live dave you will see my smile man your right we as humans need this positive interaction are mental health is big to and the ignore us but with this voice we call metal they will never hold us back have been super depressed since they canceled the first time haven't seen ant live shows for over 3 years and i feel for the kids who haven't seen a show yet there is still hope.
Then God said, let there be Mustaine. Absolute legend
He IS God.
So Dave created himself? Explains sweating bullets.
@@emilymatthews2990 god, Mustaine is a lyrical genius.
Great interview! Nice to see Dave really appreciate your knowledge and in depth understanding of the book.
Rust in Peace is one of the best albums ever released 🤘🏼🖤
TH'RUST IN PEACE LEGENDARY JUSTIN AWESOME ADVICE HEAVENLY METALDETHED UP THY HEAVY DYST !
Megadeth rocks!!🔥🔥🔥🤘
And Dave, as long as you are making music, we will keep smiling. Love You!
Is it me or Dave’s glasses makes him look like if buddy holly was in a thrash band
It's not just you! 🤣
It's you, stupid.
@@maximusmax4557 im starting to smell salt. Calm down bro.
He looks so goofy tho i love it
Great interview, thank you.
Love you and your music Dave and can’t wait to hear more so looking forward
🤘🏻MEGADETH🤘🏻
His moment in some kind of monster is so great... I love how Lars had to get stuck with that meeting without James. Lol.
Dave Mustain!!!! MI ADMIRACIÓN!!!! TE ADORO! CUÍDATE MUCHOOOO Y A TU PRECIOSA FAMILIAAAA! EJEMPLO DE SUPERACIÓN!!!! 💪🏻🌟
Greatest rhythm metal guitarist all time, all due respects to Hettfield, Ian. Those gentlemen couldn’t hold Dave’s jock musically imo...Brilliant musicianship...His rhythm playing is better than most Lead players.
For sure, but he's also a helluva lead player as well.
@@orokusaki8291 in terms of leads hes very meh and one dimensional, hes said himself
I could see Mustaine playing MOP, I can't see Hetfield being able to play Killing Is My Business or Bad Omen....especially up to speed.
Wake Up Dead 4 Lf...
really cool interview, MEGADETH Rules \m/
The new lineup with Kiko and Dirk is the absolute best since Marty and Nick and quite possibly their next album is the most anticipated since countdown because of the lineup!
Dave seems to be more humble now than before
Dave is the ultimate survivor. Even at his worst he put everything into his music. So Far...So Good notwithstanding, he never let the music suffer. May he live to put out much more incredible music! I find it pathetic that Nick and Marty saw Dave as a dollar bill as opposed to an incredible opportunity to get that awesome lineup together again.
The world needs a hero is a tragically underrated album
I SO agree!
Very good interview... very respectful to a legend!
Dave mustaine is that kind of dad that gives you cookies when your grounded
Or cocaine.
Yall are 🐟
I remember blasting this tape when I was 16 in the winter months of 1990-91.I lived in an isolated community called wassagamack first nation central east of Manitoba Canada. Me and my friends would drive around on the winter road and spark up a doobie and enjoy listening to "rust in peace". Those were awesome times.
Sometimes I imagine James + Dave + Cliff + literally any drummer in the world.
Except lars....
Clive Burr
Dave lombardo
Duplantier
Lombardo
So far so good so what and cryptic writings are so underrated albums. In my darkest hour and she wolf are sooo good
stay healthy mr Mustaine, see you on tour.\m/
The man's a Legend, his bands a Legend, & was also in another Legendary band prior to making his 'own' band a Legend! Congrats & Thank U, 👏 U deserve all the Best & Dave We Love Ya 👍
Dave out here looking like a math teacher
🤣😂
I haven't seen any math teacher with long hair😐
he's a lookalike of my 10th grade chemistry teacher. she was not a very pretty lady...
@@MetricPolygon oh man😂
I was 11 when 'Rust In Peace' came out and I first saw the 'Hangar 18' video. Blown away by the video and especially the song.

@GOD of FUCK ?
Had the best night of my time alive at one of there concerts in dublin in the nineties rocked like no tomorrow I still rave on bout them class, brilliant, privileged to have seen masters of such art
So far, So good, So what is hardly ever mentioned. A totally underrated album which is in my top 3 for sure
Dave, thanks for your beautiful music. And thanks to Junior, and Kiko and Chris.
Best thrash album. I'm so glad Dave left Metallica. We would have never got Rust in Peace if he hadn't.
He was fired
@@puigi I know. You don't need to tell me this.
Left? Lol. They booted his stupid ass.
Must it always be mentioned that he was in Metallica? You think that shows people what he can do when he will always be compared to Metallica?
Hornswoggle Lover39 when he bitched and whined for 30 years about it? Yes.
oh and to have dave do an interview is amazing.... not an easy thing to do.
I still prefer the band with Chris Poland and Gar Samuelson.
Same here
indeed.
Love you Dave. Your music always made me smile. Your a thrash metal genius. Your guitar riffs are timeless
When Dave said that Rust, Peace and Countdown are almost always the fans choice for best album I cannot help but think how underrated "So far so good so what" is. It's a beast of an album and for me it's better than Countdown
So Far So Good So What is such a kickass record !!
Von_Nightmare_ Luciferian countdown was the album that got me into Megadeth thanks to the radio. So no, countdown is the greatest record of all time
@@The_Buff_Guy what your favorite MD album is it's totally subjective but objectively there are at least 3-4 better albums.
OrangeShadow
objectively, you’re wrong. Objectively, countdown is the most successful record they have. Objectively, countdown has the best songs in their discography. Symphony of destruction alone is legendary.
@@The_Buff_Guy - most successful doesn't mean most quality
- Symphony of destruction is overrated (not a bad song but far from their best)
- CtE has some great tracks but also a lot of "so so" ones like captive honour, this was my life, architecture of aggression, etc.
- the first 4 albums have just 1 or at max 2 "so so" songs and usually are covers
