    It's actually ridiculous how many times I have watched this video JUST to see your SP101 with those Badger grips. I will own this set up. Thanks for the inspiration.

    I bought myself a gemini customs sp101 when I was coming back from deployment. I think it was the best money I ever spent on a gun, if I was told I could only have one gun I would pick that one up and walk away without giving it a second thought.

    I LOVE the SP101 you have there. That's one fine looking handgun. When I first got into L/E many years ago the 357 was THE gun to have. Carried a S&W Model 19 with cherry grips for years.

    I've looked a Gemini Customs for several years now (through there website). Their work looks top notch. I don't think you are crazy for what you are considering. It's your carry gun and your money. Why not have what you want if you can afford it. Don't worry what everyone else thinks. If you want a super nice customized carry piece I say go for it. You'll only spend that money once but you'll carry that gun for years. Make 'em years of satisfaction instead of "I wish I had...."

    OTG - have the same model - did the same exact upgrade and conversion with the SP101 ... worth every penny ... it's a must do in my opinion ... LOVE your videos ... you will NOT be disappointed !!! Please keep us in the loop with a video update ... thank you in advance !!!

    A tune-up is always a great idea. I would never have any company etch their logo on my pistol. I hate logos on my vehicles and guns. They should drop their prices to have me advertise them. Nice Nice revolver!!!

    Moon clips and tuning the action is a solid idea. The rest is personal preference. Whatever floats your boat. I have a SP101 3" barrel that I want to put some rosewood laminate hogue grips on, recrown the barrel and do some trigger work to. It's a great little gun.

    Post a review when you get the revolver back. I had Gemini do similar refining to a GP100. A video of their work will make viewers feel warm and happy inside.

    You're killing me. I'm currently in the market for a 357 and each time I'm set on the sp101, I see a sweet gp100 that changes my mind and vise versa. It will be a game time decision I think.

    I have an SP101 (bobbed hammer) from Marc and it doesn't do single action. Even if you initiate with the trigger and catch with the thumb, but the action is so controllable that it doesn't matter to me at all. (His predecessor, Weigandt's can be cocked) I'm thinking about getting another one in 2.25". I have the 3" ported now, with hard chrome treatment and cocobolo Badger grips. slight pinky extension on mine vs. the "boot" grip on the one in this video. He does beautiful work. Well worth it!

    @justhereoutofboredom 11 лет назад

    buy it, you won't regret it, I've sold guns I had long before it on account of never carrying them anymore because I always carry this one. I got the works minus the hybra port (just not a porting guy, to each their own) with some Bolivian rosewood grips and a small wonder gold bead sight, he even removed the billboard, serrated the rear sight notch and did better serrations on the hammer (glad I kept the hammer instead of bobbing it, it looks so nice).

  • @dearbrummus
    @dearbrummus 12 лет назад

    If you feel it's money well spent then it is. I carry a 101 with a clip draw device. I've bobbed my own hammer, Hogue monogrip and with the clipdraw carried IWB it is very comfortable. With a speedstrip in my pocket I fell very well served. I've seen the Gem work and the gun is beautifully done.

  • @GunznGear

    The package sounds great! I havn't used Gemini customs, but I've had similar work done by Cylinder & Slide, and Gary Reeder customs, and it was worth every penny. I plan to have a 3" S&W model 66 modified to use moon clips. I see that somedon't like, but I do. You have to be careful not to bend the clip, but that usually occurs when loading and unloading them. I have SW 625 and I use specific clips for practise, and some are loaded w/ defensive rds. The speed of the reload is greatly improved.

  • @capback79

    I think as a carry gun the modificaton will be worth it should you have to use to defend yourself because it improve it's reliability and reduce recoil. By doing this upgrade to this revolver you will have exactly what you want and the peace of mind that comes with it. Can't wait to see how it turns out.

    Great looking revolver already my friend. It can only get better

  • @aikido10
    @aikido10 12 лет назад +1

    Yes to Gemini customs. I would stay away from moon clips for carry. They have a tendency to bend and you run the risk of locking the cylinder with them. If it is a range gun then do it. I would also consider the XS tritium big dot for the front site over the small wonder. It makes a great fast target accusation site. I run it on my sp101 and can't say enough good things about it.

  • @LawnDawg007
    @LawnDawg007 12 лет назад +1

    Sounds good to me! SP101 has been my edc for the last year or so.... Been wanting to do something similar with mine. It could definitely benefit from a good trigger job, but I myself would keep the hammer intact. One of my favorite revolvers and I would do it if I could.... Look forward to seeing yours if you go through with it!

    I've seen a few Gemini Customs Ruger SP101's they come out nice and it wouldn't hurt it except for bobbing the hammer, I need that. Even my long time carry revolver, my Smith Model 649 has a concealed hammer that you can still thumb back if need be. Would like to see the finished product. I ordered a SP101, can't wait for it to get here.

    I'd say not to bother but I open carry a 6" barreled S&W Model 28. I like everything that is offered in the description except the magna-porting and the bobbing of the hammer. I don't mind the spur so much.
    On another note, where on Earth is your accent from? I hear a little Canadian influence but I'm stumped.

    The obvious answer is, "yes, you are crazy for putting that kind of money in that revolver", and I say go for it, enjoy it for all you can. My local gun store has the six inch version with optic fiber sights and a price tag of $659.00...unfortunately, the cylinder lock up is very sloppy, so loose that I wonder how it made it out the door. Good luck with the mods. Keep us posted.

  • @ThePeruano57

    I would go for it. If you love a gun and you don't plan on getting rid of it, make it your own!!! Not sure about porting a carry gun but everything else sounds great! Good luck on the choices

  • @frankgon4
    @frankgon4 12 лет назад

    I would like the SP101 to have a longer ejector rod and more room for using speed loaders. It is a great gun. I like mine with the rough hammer. I did have a trigger job done on my 3 inch barreled SP101. I am on the fence about moon clips for this revolver.

  • @4dailyrunner
    @4dailyrunner 12 лет назад

    Hello: (I am not an expert.) I would inquire more about porting. Does it increase muzzle flash in the wrong direction? Does it decrease muzzle velocity? I (my opinion for carry piece) would not want to degrade the performance of the round in any way. I would not want to loose any bit of night vision effecting the second shot. I assume you shot this before. Is the recoil effecting your accuracy?
    All the other mods sound great. 'Love the SP 101. It is on my "Man List". ha ha.

  • @ima4ster
    @ima4ster 12 лет назад

    The SP101 is my favorite carry revolver. It serves mainly as a truck gun for me. I haven't done anything with it yet, although I would like to have some of the rough edges smoothed and a trigger job.

    yes badger grips can interfere with moon clips. tho i have seen people sand down that edge to fix the clearance...and nowadays i do believe you can get badger grips that have that clearance already done. As for this ruger sp101....I like how clean she looks...tho if he ever sent it in to Gemini....it would look so much better...let alone run better.

    How do you like those grips? The original grips are too small for my hands and when shooting the heavier loads, I can't get a proper grip and it pounds on top of my middle finger.

  • @bigapple0828
    @bigapple0828 12 лет назад

    I think if you want it for fun recreational shooting, leave it in its beautiful form as it stands. If you want to make it more carry-oriented for your EDC, then go ahead and send her off. You just need to figure out what purpose you want it to have. I think either way, she's still beautiful.

  • @million65555
    @million65555 12 лет назад

    Not sure about moon clips. The length of the .357 makes them a little wobbly from my experience, so it is hit and miss when trying to get all six to agree to go in at once. But, if you enjoy that over a speed loader do it. It is only my opinion and that won't even buy a cup of coffee.

  • @TheMinisterofDefence
    @TheMinisterofDefence 12 лет назад

    that gun looks beautiful as is, and with the rosewood grips, it looks stunning. i have this gun's big brother, and it is pretty nice right out of the box, if your snubby is anything like the 4 inch model, i would just leave it alone, but hey, having said that, if you want to spend the cash, go for it.

  • @TheShermandale
    @TheShermandale 12 лет назад

    I say if you have the money, and thats what you want, go for it. Its a nice gun, and the mods you mentioned will only improve on that. I'm not very experience with the moon clips, however. So, I really cant comment on that. Thanks for posting.

    OTG, Just wondering if you ever got this done? I just bought a SP101 TALO and it's on it's way to Marc at Gemini for the SP101 hybra-port (minus the bead blast of course). If you did get the work done, how does it compare to before? I saw Gary's video and he said it made a night and day difference (or something to that effect). After 20 years of Active Duty service (10 in Japan), this is going to be my retirement present to myself! Can. Not. Wait.

    I think it is a great idea after looking up the price on a S&W Performance Center .357 and the price is over $1000 so you are coming out ahead and you don't have to worry about the canted sights that some on YT have had to deal with. You purchased one of the best revolvers for the money on the market and you are getting it upgraded to custom status for less than a custom pistol would cost. Smart move!

  • @Lawrence64

    :) Good! I think it is going to look great. Another good thing is the material Ruger built this gun is really solid and pretty good for some art on it. I can't do anything like that on my aluminum frame S&W snubby.

    honestly I think $300 is rather cheap for all the work they are doing. The only thing about custom guns is you never get the $ out of it that you put in if you decide to sell. I say the hell with it b/c custom guns are really the coolest of all!!! best of luck and cant wait to see it if you decide to send it off.

  • @lambdog76

    Not crazy at all. Getting customized, will be fine considering the timeless heirloom value of ruger products. it will be just like modifying a car you'll never sell. I look forward to hearing what you end up deciding on and seeing the results.

  • @Lawrence64
    @Lawrence64 12 лет назад +1

    :) Well I love revolvers. I would do the customization if it's a keep. Thing is you'll never get this money back to you as a financial investment . But this revolver will be one of a kind. I think is worth it a try.

    So I have a 1990 S10 4x4 that has about $3000 worth of work in it, and that is just in basic mechanical. No body work or lift, just a functioning truck. Crazy? some think so, but it's what I want, it does what I want, and I know it. Spending money on something that is YOURS to make it cutom to your needs is better than spending a grand on something that mostly sits in the safe.

    well i think for the 299 price you get what you pay for, the 145 for cutting the moon clips seems a little steep on what your already paying, my advice, call and ask for a bundle price... that being said if you go full blown your in the price of the revolver plus another $445, for a five shots of pain, that you may or may not mess up in the process of carrying....seems like you got a decision to make, but hey like my dad says, its only money, and when your dead, it don't mean nothin

    I'd hardly call what he was doing spinning the cylinder and "slamming" it shut, he just spun it and push it back with his thumb, nothing that's going to hurt the gun. To do any real damage to the gun you'd have to close the cylinder by snapping your wrist, and even then it'll take a lot of doing it to throw off the timing.

  • @satchboogyfan
    @satchboogyfan 12 лет назад

    If you carry it every day it is a part of you, why not get it done? I would in a heartbeat. I am now considering purchasing one just to have that package! • @leadslanger
    @leadslanger 12 лет назад

    Here's my opinion. Be warned though, it's not worth the paper it's printed on. ........Come to think of it, it's not worth that either is it? :) It all depends on if you're gonna keep it or not. If you're gonna keep it and that's what you want, by all means, proceed on. If you ever plan on getting rid of it, it's a no go. You'll never even come close to gettin' your money back. Here's what I think on the options. Don't de-spur the hammer, I like the finish that's on it. JMO :)
