    • A Remote Milling Adven...
    We took our brand new Logosol F2 chainsaw mill out to an island property in northern Ontario to mill up some White Pine and Eastern White Cedar logs for customers.
    We had felled these trees about a month prior to cast more sunlight on a new solar installation.
    A full video of the whole adventure, including transporting the mill by ATV and boat will be released in the next week or two.
    Sawmill: Logosol F2
    (www.logosol.ca/...)
    Saw: Stihl MS 661
    Chain: Stihl 63 PMX low-profile rip chain (3/8" picco)

    Hello! New to your channel and am loving it! I loved you on Alone. Where did you pickup the Logosol Mill? I am in WA State and would love to get one. Closest dealer is California. What are you thoughts on the Logosol Fast Saw instead of a chainsaw. Just wondering if it was a consideration at all. Thanks for all the great videos and take care!

    This is probably the F2, not the + unit. The plus is bigger and has some neat additions

    Sweet looking rig!! Nice wood!! I didn’t read all the comments so maybe some one already made the suggestions regarding stacking, what we do and I think it make sense, is placing the first and last stickers as close as the ends as possible, that is said to mitigate splitting, making sure the stickers are well on top of each other’s and 20” apart for the first round of drying. Make sure your stack is saw dust free, it helps the drying and prevent moulds forming in the wood!
    Look like life is good for both of you!! Keep up the great work!!

    You two make a great team thanks for the demonstration guys. I definitely enjoyed watching you operating this mill It seems like a well thought out design that is durable yet lightweight. Greetings from your next door neighbors in Alaska.

    That Logosol is certainly a great upgrade to the Alaskan style chainsaw mill you were using before. Getting the logs up to a nice working height certainly saves the back and the ability to rotate the log certainly makes lumber production easier.

      No other mill we looked at was as portable as this one. In the full video I'll show breaking down the mill, packing it into an ATV trailer, then a boat and bringing it out to this island site!

  • @stevenl8420

    Man I’ve had a chainsaw mill for better part of 4 years and still don’t have a saw I feel big enough to run it my biggest saw is a 391 stihl and I’m terrified I’ll burn it up some how by milling with it, what do you think the smallest saw to run a mill with should be? Not all day every day just occasionally

    • @lureofthenorth
      @lureofthenorth  4 года назад +1

      For occasionally milling, especially with softwoods you could get by with the 391. I used a similarly sized saw for a couple of years. Check out Lo pro chain as it'll require less horsepower (I'm using Stihl 63pmx)

  • @kevinking1391
    @kevinking1391 4 года назад

    Nice setup! What size chain saw is that? Mine is a Stihl 361 20" can take 25" Great for firewood. Probably would need the Stihl 461 for a log mill or better. I make crafts in my shop but mainly buy exotic woods on eBay. Would be nice to mill my own. I live on 170 aces in Arkansas, Lots of black Walnut trees, oak, beech, pine, and maple.

    • @lureofthenorth
      @lureofthenorth  4 года назад

      Sounds like you have amazing access to some great timber! The 461 is a good choice, the 661 would be even nicer
