FINALLY! Recognition were it's due. Shaun is one of the few Australian comedians with wit and intelligence but still vastly under utilised by our media. Good capture halfgoon.
RIP Bert Newton. It's like we were witnessing here the passing of the crown of Australia's funniest TV presenter from one generation to the next. Micallef totally nailed his acceptance in the funniest possible way and Newton providing historical context without preparation was total class. We will miss your quick wit heaps, Bert!
The thing that really shits me is that Shaun hosted the Logies in 2000 and it was panned by just about every bloody critic in the country, but if he was to host them now people would love it. The thing is his humour hasn't really changed in that whole time. Am I the only one who thinks this? Anyway, an award well deserved. Hoping he gets gold in 2011. Long live the Prince of Aussie Comedy and may his humour never die!!!
brilliant. always has been and always will be one of the FUNNIEST men in australia. full frontal, micallef program(me), micallef tonight, newstopia, those bits on thank god you're here that he did and shat over most of the other 'talent', even talking 'bout your gen, anything he touches turns to great entertainment.
must be seen as a beautiful star in that firmament which shines upon me at this moment, dazzling me a little, but filling me with warmth and the extraordinary elation, the euphoria that happens to so many of us at the first breath of the majestic glow of a new tomorrow From the top of this moment,in the solace in the kindly emotion that is charging my soul and my heart at this moment,I thank you for this great gift which lends me such a very splendid part in this, your glorious occasion.Thank you"
Finally, someone actually worthy of winning an award. The sad sorry tripe we usually give acting awards too is a bloody joke... but Shaun, hes a legend.
@68kira Thankyou. What was even meaner though was how quick Rove and Tasma got together after Belinda's death. It's a fair bet that Rove was on the hunt for a new bride while Bel was dying of cancer.
Brilliant Shaun! Ta for the upload :-) For those interested, here's the Olivier speech -> "Mr. President and Governors of the Academy, Committee Members, fellows, my very noble and approved good masters, my colleagues, my friends, my fellow-students. In the great wealth, the great firmament of your nation's generosity, this particular choice may perhaps be found by future generations as a trifle eccentric, but the mere fact of it--the prodigal, pure, human kindness of it--...
Thank you for uploading this. I live in RURAL SA and we don't get Channel 9 here, thus miss out. Can you please upload the 'in remembrance' whenever it is aired?
Given that you commented 7 years ago (which means I just went back in time) you'd know all about Mad as Hell. But, your comment is 7 years old, so now you can pretend I'm a messenger from the future and feign surprise that Micallef is still a comedy God.
I love they way they mock the Logies for the 'piece of shit' awards ceremony that it is :-))). If I was in TV I'd only turn up for the booze, meal and night out.
Good to see the Channel Nine logo on the bottom right corner. Eddie Maguire's ego got the better of him and now Channel Nine is losing viewers to other networks. Couldn't happen to a better person.
@Malangsufi I didn't think the Olivier speech was terribly intelligent. It does show a half-decent vocabulary for a reasonably well read man and is grammatically correct. Stylistically it reads like someone attempting desperately to be poetic but coming off as simply melodramatic and pompous. The humour comes from how out-of-place that style is today.
@imowtflol ... hahahaha?... that was the sickest, un-funniest comment i've ever read on here.. i'm glad shaun won and i'm not a huge rove fan but that was just plain cruel, mean and dumb.
I love that this speech is basically a big fuck you to the Australian industry. Merely mentioning Olivier at the Logies would be enough to make one laugh from embarrassment, but he goes all the way and rubs their noses in it. Good for him. Australian television typifies that countries cultural mediocrity, and Shaun Micallef is one of only a very select few to ever overcome it from within.
@TheTelfie Perhaps I should have said pop cultural mediocrity, but no, not trolling. Film and TV in Australia are terrible, and music and literature aren't much better. Do you disagree?
Sometimes I think that Shaun Micallef is way too creative for the rest of Australian comedy to comprehend.
He is a genius comedian. Mad as Hell gives me solace in a world of fuckeduppedness.
Sometimes he makes great or dry jokes that the audience misses. So good that he isn't afraid to try them.
Shaun is Australia’s analogue of Python and Fry/Laurie Peter Cook.
Genius
@@PetraKann As was the Aunty Jack crew.
I laugh so hard at his antics. He is one funny man.
Shaun will someday be looked apon as one of Australian tv's treasures.
Someday? Every day is that day for me.
Someday?
I lost it at: "This is a good one, this is Laurence Olivier when he accepted his Academy Award in '77, so it seems only appropriate"
I have said it before and I'll say it again. Shaun Micallef is a comedy genius.
This man is a comedic genius and by far the most entertaining in our country!
The way he walks off stage AHAHAHAA oh man. Shaun Micallef remains one of my favourite Aussie comedians, if not THE favourite. :D
He's up there with Norman Gunston
FINALLY! Recognition were it's due. Shaun is one of the few Australian comedians with wit and intelligence but still vastly under utilised by our media. Good capture halfgoon.

I remember the original speech by Laurence Olivier. It was incomprehensible.
shaun doesnt need an award to tell me how good he is, best fucking comedian ever
I like him cos he acts kinda old school in the style of hosting, like the 50s tv show. thanks for posting!
love the walk out. pure comedy at its best
The way he loses the escort at the end and pulls off a Chaser-patented 'Bonehead' is effortless. Classic Shaun.

You're not alone. He is still true to form.
Wait, was he panned by critics for his hosting? It seems to be the most beloved one from what I've seen online
It was 2001. But I agree with Stuart, I remember it being well received by critics & I don't think there's been a decent Logies since.
He is freaking hysterical!!
PURE awesome
I didn't think all that much of Shaun until this speech --- it's sooo good, and it captures the full schmucky tinsel sense of the whole event
Really? His ABC's "Micallef Program" is amongst the World's very best comedy.
"Newstopia" & "Mad as Hell" continue his irreverence.
Brilliant !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
National treasure this guy
talking about your gen is the best and only show i watch on TV
Shaun Micallef is a legend
Aww, Bert Newton....
I flipped channels just in time to see Shaun's speech. I LMAO then and I'm LMAO now.

But sir, I only asked if you enjoyed your meal.
Oh If only I was a bit older and Shaun was a bit younger...
Finally, someone actually worthy of winning an award. The sad sorry tripe we usually give acting awards too is a bloody joke... but Shaun, hes a legend.
Best speech ever! Possibly even better than the original.
Adam hills is so humble. ❤
@4barbela That was how Groucho Marx used to walk when he was in a hurry to get away. Shaun is a big Marx Brothers fan
best speach of all time.......in this context.
i heart bert newton
2:32 he pulls a U-y HAHAHAHA I LOVE YOU SHAUN MICALLEF! Someone please start a petition to bring The Micallef program back!!!!!
i loveee shaun micallef :)
He is the best person in the world.
great speech
Did anyone else get to see him perform with Stephen Curry this year at the Melbourne Comedy Festival? It was absolutely genius.
home and away guy, thats awesome
i have to start a facebook page to get shaun micallef to host net year
Wow I love him
Newstopia is one of the greatest triumphs of comedy of all time.
I love how Rove is already blacked out before it's even anounced, as if to say "...not you again this time, sorry buddy".
@68kira Thankyou. What was even meaner though was how quick Rove and Tasma got together after Belinda's death. It's a fair bet that Rove was on the hunt for a new bride while Bel was dying of cancer.
all the other audience comedians, in their eyes, their like: thats GOLD!
Brilliant Shaun!
Ta for the upload :-)

What is up with Nat Bass' hair?
He is so funny!!
I bet more people have watched this than the actual logies.
No need to repeat yourself. No need to say it at all really. It is so self evidently true.
@jimmyman91 sigh, watch again and you'll find Bert is talking about another acceptance speech that went for 47minutes.
I met him once, shit was insane.
All these so called comedians that are on tv today could only wish they were half as clever as Shaun Micallef! Bring back the Micallef program!!!
Given that you commented 7 years ago (which means I just went back in time) you'd know all about Mad as Hell. But, your comment is 7 years old, so now you can pretend I'm a messenger from the future and feign surprise that Micallef is still a comedy God.
@TecchyTutorials i looked it up and i found he has maltese grandparents, i think or greatgrandparents i dunno
whoa bert newton is still alive
Regretfully not
Lol he's so clever ...
@p1CKLEpEPPERpIPER yehh, i havnt seen much of his stuff
It's actually 1979 not 1977 :P
Comic Genius
Hahaha, I disagree Bert. Its highly unlikely that the record for the longest Academy award acceptance speech is going to be beaten at the Logies.
@stnic07 yes, ray only got that award because they pity him, just like the guy from blue heelers
Funniest man on TV!
I love they way they mock the Logies for the 'piece of shit' awards ceremony that it is :-))). If I was in TV I'd only turn up for the booze, meal and night out.
and?
For the original: Look this up /watch?v=TSgvp0l1n2s at 4:01
Must have run out of gold ones.
Good to see the Channel Nine logo on the bottom right corner. Eddie Maguire's ego got the better of him and now Channel Nine is losing viewers to other networks. Couldn't happen to a better person.
robbie at 2:02!!!!!!!!! he is sooooooooooooo cute!!!!!
@myshoescramp HAHA yes. yes I'm sure he does go crazy when in panic. He's also very funny
@simonsillitoe :intellegent, my bad, but what I said still remains the bitter truth.
@Malangsufi I didn't think the Olivier speech was terribly intelligent. It does show a half-decent vocabulary for a reasonably well read man and is grammatically correct. Yes, well, actprs are a bunch of wankers, that's not news.
Daylight second.
@imowtflol ... hahahaha?... that was the sickest, un-funniest comment i've ever read on here.. i'm glad shaun won and i'm not a huge rove fan but that was just plain cruel, mean and dumb.
Champagne comedy..
so glad rove didnt win again
use to love him but as the more trophies he was getting, the more he seemed so cocky
Unlike Larry, i dont think Shaun holds hands with "his fellow actors".
Micallef is a maltese surname....
I love that this speech is basically a big fuck you to the Australian industry. Didn't Rove and Tasma look good together. Hope she doesn't die too.....
Shaun could pull off a Biden clone, right?
1:41 flat earth
I hate BERT
personally, i think he is cocky and tries too hard. I think Adam Hills is muchhhhhh better
This guy goes from one no rating show to the next over 20 years and because of the vacuum of talent in Oz he keeps getting awards, ipso facto QED
