Kirsten Neuschäfer wins the Golden Globe Race 2022

- By crossing the finish line of the ancestor of the Vendée Globe in Les Sables d'Olonne this Thursday at 21:43:47 CET, the South African sailor has achieved one of the greatest accomplishments in ocean racing.
Winner of the Golden Globe race, without assistance or technology, after 235 days, 5 hours, 44 minutes and 4 seconds of racing (final time will be determined after the calculation of penalties for using fuel and bonuses), Kirsten became the first woman to win a solo round-the-world race under sail. This achievement was celebrated in Les Sables d'Olonne, now more than ever the world capital of single-handed ocean racing.

Congratulations!! The anchor windlass is still mounted on the bow. She stated before the start that she might remove it for the race, but it made the circumnavigation on deck.

Honestly. This makes a joke of the former Volvo race. This is actually what voyaging is all about. Versus fragile boats that can go fast and break apart in moderate conditions. What an awesome accomplishment. Kudos as well to the GCR organization to staging a real race.

This win by KN I believe is a landmark in many ways for the GGR. I wonder if Don and wife Jan ever thought that this creature called the GGR that he resurrected after a 50-year hiatus will become the huge event it is today and appears to grow beyond his own control as more and more sailors are attracted to the original idea of unescorted nonstop solo sailing around the world using only the technology and hull design of the times circa 1960s. While Kirsten won the "race" according to the rules, which is a huge example of sailing seamanship, something has to be said about Simon C's equally amazing feat of stopping to repair his own boat alone hundreds of miles out of the course route (which disqualifies his boat) and by his own amazing feat of seamanship he catches up to the leaders in this race and in real time is the first boat across the line. If anything is certain, the used boat prices for the Cape George, Biscay 36, Rustlers, will dramatically increase in resale value, not withstanding the fine-tuning to standard specs that each entrant made.

This Lady is a true Seawoman. She has style, class, looks, and guts. Heck, she even rescued a fellow competitor during the race. The way she gave Minnehaha the first sip of champagne speaks volumes of the depth of this First Class Lady. She should be on the cover of Sport's Illustrated!!!!!!

Based on the interview and Don's read of the fuel consumption she gets no penalities. She was given a fuel compensation when she sailed to help save Tapio. Basically the only fuel she used was during that rescue mission,

What an incredible solo ocean racing achievement by Kirsten and not a word from 'cyril the spineless' or the useless minister of sports! Not even front page news for our country to celebrate Kirsten's win! It's definitely because she's white! Now had she been black, man oh man, would the racist anc have made a day of this one.
