I grew up with a northern grandmother but her mother was from Louisiana. She showed me all of these old recipes but she never mentioned this one, I don't think. I'm sure she knew about it tho. I'm glad people are still showing these recipes and keeping them alive, as I will try to do also.
Thank you for sharing this recipe! My grandmother use to make it and I loved. She passed many years ago and I haven't had any since. Can't wait to make some!
I’ve never made or eaten spoon bread before, but I will make this for Thanksgiving, if not before! Thank you for teaching me how to do it. I could almost taste it just watching you prepare it!
I loved when my mom would cook this. I finally made some after wanting some for so many years. I ate two really big servings of it! I’ll be making more soon the next time I have guests for dinner… 👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿
Thank you for explaining what spoon bread is and for demonstrating how to make it. I came across my grandmother’s recipe for spoon bread and I had never heard of it before so I had to look it up. I am in Texas and we are expecting an arctic cold front to arrive late this afternoon and I plan to make my grandmother’s spoon bread recipe to go with a roasted chicken for dinner tonight. Thanks again!
I thought my momma and my family was the only ones who loved Spoon Bread. We would have this every Thanksgiving and Christmas for breakfast growing up and my favorite way of eating it is with my eggs cooked medium on top with bacon, sausage, scapple and fried potatoes. We will be having this this year in honor of my mother memory. 🙏🏽
❤ I am certainly late to this party, but I wanted to say thank you for posting this recipe! I have my great aunt's recipe, and haven't made it in years, but I LOVE it and it will be perfect for the New Year! ❤
Spoon Bread is delicious!! Yours seems so easy to make!! I've never made it, but I didn't know that it was this easy and will be making yours!! Here at Morrison's Cafeteria in Virginia, it is mixed/served with molasses or a honey-caramel like sauce. I like it your way better Beverly!! Thank you for sharing!!
I forgot to tell about the honey that is sooo good, I thought Morrison’s went out of business because ours closed about 10 years ago, I loved that place.
@@BeverlyBlack There's one on Mercury Blvd., in Hampton, Virginia, right on the Hampton/Newport News Line. It is in the old Newmarket North Shopping Mall, where most Anchor Stores and smaller Stores have fell by the wayside, but Morrison's Cafeteria has stayed the whole time from what I remember, 70's or 80's at least. The Movie Theater used to be beside it. Miss the old days when things were fun!!
@@BeverlyBlack It may be called Piccadilly's Restaurant now, but it's still in the same place and the food is good!! I just thought of that, sorry Beverly, everyone. But their Spoon Bread is good!! But, not as good as Beverly's, wink!!
I haven't had spoon bread since I was a child in Selma, Alabama, you are cooking all of my grandmother's favorite foods, thanks so much, New subscriber my friend.🤗🤗🤗🤗
My youngest son Julian cannot eat any bread from flour due to a sever allergic reaction from wheat. I will be making this in addition to my famous dinner rolls at Thanksgiving. Thankyou SOOO MUCH for sharing this recipe. I’m going to make this Spoon Drop Bread this weekend so I can get A hang of the recipe before Thanksgiving. Thankyou ❤👩🍳😜😋👌🏻
I used to make spoon bread for breakfast with bacon or sausages. I used to add a little sugar, and sometimes use bacon grease instead of butter. It is so good! I haven’t made it in years and this really takes me back.
I love cornbread to distraction and it never occurred to me that it could be improved upon. I first made your recipe two days ago, and I have just made it again. Omg! Thankyou Ms. Black, thank you!
Thank you Beverly, I made this for dinner tonight and it was so good. I had made this year's ago but forgot about it. Love it you are so wonderful sharing.
I love that we are on the same page that cornbread and spoon bread should have butter in it, under it, and on it! I make mine a little differently, but not appreciably. I add a can of creamed corn and delete the water. I let the cornmeal soak in the milk for at least 15 minutes instead. ( I have to emphasize you really should use one method or the other, as you clearly know, it makes all the difference in the world!) Thank you for sharing the joys of spoon bread! ❤️🌻

I've never had spoon bread before.
It's Beverly to me that just looks like A fluffy Cornbread
It is like a soufflé, when zI was little it was considered as a dessert because we would put syrup or molasses on it because that was all good we had.
Looks wonderful!
Thanks for the video and great recipe sharing this!

What does boiling water do in this recipe? Guessing cooks the corn meal a bit and reduces oven time? Thank You
Yes it does!

I am so glad you enjoyed it, and this is a bowl I have had for a while can’t remember where I got it from.
Hi Beverly
Is this spoon bread like chess pie or buttermilk pie? I lov chess pie
You taste the cornmeal but on the line of a quiche or souffle.
Looks so good
It is a must to try!
So good to see you tonight and if you don’t mind I was wandering if you make a daily devotional video
I don't but that is a good idea and I will pray about it!
Just subbed. 30 seconds in and I Luv Bev.
Thank you so much and welcome to the family.
Not sure if I’ve ever heard of this recipe 🤔
You probably don't want to use baking powder if you're using self-rising corn meal. Otherwise it looks delicious.
Self rising has everything in it
Yummmm
That batter seemed awfully thin.
It was good to my family 🤗
Hello no
Im gonna try it Beverly
