Transcript:
Centuries ago, an ancient race, the Xel'naga, experimented on two species: the psionic Protoss and the insectoid Zerg. The Protoss worshipped the Xel'naga, but to control the vicious Zerg, the Xel'naga created the Overmind. Unfortunately, the Overmind turned the swarm on its creators and the Xel'naga were never seen again.
The Protoss resolved to stop the Zerg, but during the Great War, their homeworld of Aiur was lost. Forming a shaky alliance with their exiled brothers, the Dark Templars, the Protoss retreated, but Dark Prelate Zeratul, learned of experiments on a Zerg/Protoss hybrid and left to investigate.
Meanwhile, Terran soldier Jim Raynor lost his partner, Sarah Kerrigan to the Zerg. Abandoned by her commander, Arcturus Mengsk, Kerrigan was transformed into the Zerg/Terran hybrid, the Queen of Blades. Through treachery, she recruited the Terrans and Protoss to destroy the new Overmind then took control of the Zerg Swarm for herself. Betrayed, Raynor vowed to kill Kerrigan, but she now commanded the most powerful force in the galaxy. Then, without explanation, she gathered her swarm and vanished.
Four years later and in between drinking binges, Raynor leads raids against Emperor Mengsk, but it's time to sober up. Kerrigan has returned to uncover mysterious Xel'naga artifacts, compelled by an ancient voice. The voice of an ancient evil born anew.

The way this was read made me think of a really energetic 7 year old telling his mom about the big lego space war set he made in his bedroom and the whole story he came up with.
They way Carbot pronounced: "THE OVERMIND", and "THE QUEEN OF BLADES" was so hilarious.

....I'm fairly sure tassadar destroyed the overmind, and kerrigan just happened to take over after that.
+SangoProductions21 There were two overminds. Tassadar got the first one and in the Brood War campaign, the cerebrates merged to make a new overmind and the UED came to control it and eventually in the Zerg campaign, Kerrigan got some allies to destroy the UED's overmind.
+Scott89878 define 'allies', from what I can remember it was holding hostage of a particular matriarch and a dash of parasites that she made the schizophrenic nezarim destroy the new overmind.
I never said her "allies" did it willingly

battle.net you don't need anything else, just enter your e mail and password, should be the same that you have SC2 or other Blizzard game... if you played online in the 90's or the 2000 shouldn't be a problem...

Not Enough Minerals!
I think the story gets too much flak over the "I'm gonna be the man to kill you someday" inconsistency, which it hardly is since Raynor was referring to a possessed Kerrigan. I did prefer that queen bitch of the universe compared to the one we got in SCII, but it's not the story's biggest issue.
I love Broodwar, but its story wasn't perfect. Finding artifacts (crystals) and multiple twists/backstabs was something I saw SCII's story critiqued for but Broodwar certainly had that. The major difference is the presentation, really.
SC2's story wasn't bad. It just got flak from fans who A: Were a lot younger when they played SC1 and hated the sequel for failing to rewind their brains to happier times and B: Didn't like the more lighthearted story compared to the previous. There's no SC2 campaign where you're fighting *for* the ultimate antagonist like in SC1 and Broodwar.

Actually, that's starctraft, brood war and wings of liberty lore.
Basically it was all like the pre-SC2 background lore you would need to understand in order to get the SC2 story.

That's Carbotanimations for you! They have a knack for creating cute zerg (among the rest of the SC cast), with the zergling being the most iconic.
I love how that is the appearance of the story from teh first game, but now that hte last game has been released, the story is radically different.
SC2 lore in a few seconds: Take the amazing racial and political dynamic established in SC1 and toss it all away in favour of Warcraft In Space.

Lately they've even stopped caring about gameplay too. LotV is being built to be an esport- that is to say, Blizz is prioritizing the enjoyment of spectators over the enjoyment of the players (hence ridiculous changes like 12 worker starts and the enormous harass buffs like dropable sieged siege tanks).
Completely disagree. SC2's story is a major step up in story along with every aspect SC1 had. SC1's story was rushed, its lore unexplored, and everything is compressed probably due to budget constraints at the time. They even had to publish books just to expand the universe. SC2's story was definitely a refreshing thing as it introduced tie ins with the books while detaching itself from the compressed and rushed storyline of SC1. Granted that SC1 was a bit darker in retrospect, only turned into something completely laughable with the introduction of Retribution and Insurrection and that one other add-on campaign that was completely forgotten, but SC2 though noblebright looking, definitely has something more sinister underneath that what was presented what with the expansion of the lore and the introduction of more ruinous powers playing at the background. Love it or hate it, Blizz did a fine job with the story.
