I know this wont be for everyone since velvets overall design was never truly the problem her lore and references just made it impossible to design something that matched obviously characters dont have to look what there referenced as but it should be like 50% obvious what was used velvets design for me does not hint to anything used which sucks cause the is pretty cute so yeah I had to reimagine her no amount of mixing and matching was gonna convey what she does is or was hopefully that all made some sense but yeah this is what I try to teach to y'all about the importance of character design

3:31 this bit perfectly summarises my thoughts on the designs in the show they somewhat look fine, but when you learn what they’re based on ,it all falls apart
Exactly at first glance there fun and really interesting but there backgrounds and lore just dont match and it's like yeah ppl can excuse it but for me that's a big no I need my work to make sense XD
@@LovesArt23 I think it’s important to remember that what they’re based on is not the only thing that dictates the designs. It’s been stated that how a sinner looks is also based on two other factors, what they look like when they were human, and how they died. So judging the character design entirely on the lore of what they do is kinda unfair imo.

It’s like they have 10 different concepts crammed into a single character, and like yeah, you can make a character be many things but when you add so many concepts it’s just becomes complicated and it ends up being nothing
I actually imagined velvet being more like a owner of a Drug and alcohol brand like it can fit to the love potion thing, and it would fit more with vox and valentino like she can sale for valentino cigarrets, aphrodisiac, love potions and for vox more like commercial for her brand and still on trending in social media bc u know DUMB trendings like those from 2020 in tik tok kinda thing- but that just my idea and REALLY love your version of velvet!!
Honestly that could work they are in hell so all the stuff that influencers sell on earth probably aren't as appealing as they would have been she could push any manner of random thing to keep fans hooked on watching her but also getting something destructive at the same time

@T_E_G YES! I should be able to tell your characters personality from looks alone never mind what they're meant to be. Your supposed to be able to tell if a character is a human or doll from first glance its a basic rule in character design!

I think velvette's built herself up to a point where she *can't* be replaced. I mean, she has Vox on her side.
I meant if a more powerful tech/influncer was in hell vox would replace velvet in a heartbeat to keep himself on top of the trends and advanced tech

I just think that velvet is more like the in between to explain all the stuff they do, and why they for some reason say their the backbone of the vs, they do all the extra stuff that could be done that isn't vox's tech, or vals movies, basically doing a bunch of stuff so its no longer as easy to fire her, she gets fired they lose potions, fashion department, social media department, and a slew of others, to the point they just leave stuff they don't want to do to her, like the meeting in ep 3
@@LovesArt23 But if anything, it kinda plays into your characterization of Velvet here - she's hyperactive, a busybody that manages multiple resources for the V's to exploit (perhaps serving as a liason to hell's various brands of clothing and products, allowing Vox to take over) -
- A POSSIBLE chemist that has knowledge in various "snake-oil-esque" products that the newer generation's becoming accustomed to, as constantly advertised, experimented-on, and shown it's progression (as a product) on tiktok. Like the sort of beauty products you'd purchase of amazon in desperation, or customizable when it wouldn't even work at al... Hell they could be a discount knockoff of LEVIATHAN'S over-priced products. And on top of all that, she can see the future to an extent.
Vox and Valentino HAVE to respect her, even if they may treat her as somewhat beneath them, rather selectively during their downtime. Because she's terrifying: she's been running paces around all of them for several years now, and there's no signs of her stopping. That sort of energy in Hell of all places is rare, and it scared quite a few people. And she knows how to play them just the same.
Two more thoughts. Firstly, Velvette could be making use of the rift between Valentino and Vox - both of whom have become big enough for their egos to skyrocket, and are actively in a toxic relationship (both with their own extreme issues, perhaps not abusive though Valentino is clearly exhibiting THOSE tendencies), and so they're often busy infighting over the more haphazard discrepancies. Enough for her to take advantage of the chaos how she'd like - whether that's as a mediator, an instigator, or just exploiting the resulting holes in the business.
Second, I like to imagine that the prior two versions of Velvette that you created, could perhaps be PROXY robots, that are uniquely customized and made, so there's just a dozen or so, for Vox to have Velvette get snuck into other rings of hell. And since they're technically NOT the same person (maybe each robot could havve one of Velvette's sentient eyes inside to mimic her personality while relaying memories and real-time experiences), this does fly under the radar for illegal activity - or at least, the other sins think it's a joke, and allow her presence depending on the Sins themselves. Not realizing how technology is rapidly advancing - and Velvette herself able to promote, incite strife, and do all sorts of wicked shenanigans with this new access to the other rings of hell.
But most importantly, Velvette is SO good at marketing herself, she CAN'T JUST BE OUTRIGHT STRUCK DOWN. as her online following is so high and frenzied (not necessarily loyal, but just a sort of insane fanbase and overall at-breaking-point audience), that the sins can't just get rid of her, for THOSE specific crimes. Because the ensuing chaos, would be UNREAL... Well, on paper, they'd tell Lucifer they're sparing him the headache of riots in his city. which he wouldn't actually care about either way. CAUSE HE'D JUST GET RID OF HER LMAO - buuuut in actuality? many of them have made deals WITH Velvette herself. Deals that even with Vox possibly listening in, Velvette has higher understanding of, and inside-deals to boot. Or at least backdoor deals, with someone who knows the sins.
I would really love to see your keshabee character be manipulated by this little gremlin - someone who matches her energy, surpasses it, arguably boosts her highs and overall popularity outside her own ring with all it's conflicting personalities and opinions on her... and yet does NOT have her best interests at heart. Something keshabe KNOWS deep down, has that inkling of truth to trace just by instinct, just by a bit. But she just can't understand what it really means to be a sinner like that, because Velvette? Is just having the time of her LIFE.
And yeah, her schemes ABSOLUTELY fly under the radar, because no one either takes her seriously enough, or she has straight-up deals with them, and neither party is willing to back off. She's a go-getter, and to me I think she should DEFINITELY be the most dangerous of the Vees. The kind of character that has that slow burn in the reveal to their villainy, scarce moments to be revealed here and there, and by like season 3 she's a real threat, after the other two have been trounced in some sort of way. She's their saving grace. And she's been winning in the background, all along... IRONIC, cause this girl does NOT settle for the background. Not for long.
The last bit got quite fanficky lol - but character has SO much potential, with just the energy you brought with the design, and I love it. Amazing work as per usual

Looks great! The eye-puffs kind of remind me of Iono from Pokémon, who actually is an influencer, and is always watching her audience. Love it!

I can imagine Velvet is being a popular twitch streamer or Tiktoker or V-tuber since she likes to surrounds herself in technology, and I like to headcanon that she makes Cute phone cases to sell the people, or she has a two pet twin bats called “ Bruce” and “ Quin” ( Get it, It’s a Batman reference), But Love the Design in general.
Love the idea of the third eye, it would be a good gag that every time she is trying to see the future with it, she loses her patience / gets distracted by her phone because she has a short attention span
Instead of ‘head of the ENTIRE fashion industry’ it should’ve been ‘famous fashion designer or something like that. Viv seems to take those random ideas people get at ___ AM that you’re not supposed to take seriously but she does. (She doesn’t think things through I’ve seen through the lore and stuff)
Imagine if this Velvet used her future eye and saw the hotel succeeding and no one believes her 😂😂😂

10:27 Yeah, I know that exhausted feeling. Getting married to an idea for a character is a big pitfall for any designer, which I think is the biggest issue with Velvet: Too many ideas with none of them being let go of. Flexibility is an important part of any good character design, and that means cutting out anything that can muddy the main idea you want to communicate with said character, no matter how great of an idea you think it was when you started. If it ultimately doesn't work, you have to let it go if you want the design to reach its full potential. It's great when you have a lot of good ideas for a single character. Not so great when you realize you need to cut some of them out to actually make the design work XD

I’m SO happy that you keep experimenting with the designs, because it’s a good example on the fact that not always the first idea is the best, and you should give yourself space to experiment if you are just having fun
It's a shame you weren't satisfied with your other versions of her because I absolutely adored them! Great job as always with the rewrite and redesign! (Also, Velvet being the Vees' PR manager makes no when you remember that Vox can literally hypnotize people.)
I still have a soft spot for them and they might be re made into outfits for velvet but yeah I wish they could have been the one XD (and OMG YES as soon as he did his thing I was like ok so we need velvet for what now.... like just make her there fashion designer instead of PR it was never needed)

Your design looks like a nightmare set to a hyperpop soundtrack in the best way possible! Streamlining the inspiration behind Velvet's design was honestly necessary and shows just how much stronger her visuals can be with a bit of editing. I can just imagine all of the fun, bright, and slightly twisted outfits this Velvet could come up with.
It would be kind of interesting if Velvet knows that she could be easily replaced, and is actually using Vox's cameras to track down anyone that seems like they would be able to unstable her and possibly bargain their soul? And use it for herself? Idk like, making someone work for you w no credit to them sounds like hell lol
Imagine if she was animated like a vtube model maybe even being motion capture that would be funny
Of course you would have to make a new model for every angle because vtube models are exactly the same thing we use in motion capture

Leg warmers, or anime socks as you called them, lol, are always fun to have, I own a pair of bright neon orange leg warmers that match with nothing but everything at the same time
You know since she has a third eye that helps read into the future if she’s focused enough, all I can think of is Junko Enoshima, who is actually the ultimate analyst in manga comics, with her mega analyst skills she can know what fashion the people like. So imagination time she uses her third eye to see the future of what trends and styles of what people like.
Also this design is very pretty! Amazing work once again.
I think this is super cute! I'm still pretty fond of her design(s) in the show though, but I think your ideas are so cool and make a lot of sense. Also, I LOVE the way you do your lineart, I've never really seen anyone do it that way before!
I love velvet’s current design but I agree there’s a lot that contradicts lore wise. I think this design is my favourite by far! It fits her lore much better
Which why I think in season two Velvette is going to be questioned about her place with the Vees. Maybe pointing out her trying to inflate her influence with the Vees in front of others but is actually worried of her position. Felt like the finale hinted at it, saying “Two of us,” instead of “Three of us” ruling all of hell.
They probably should've limited her to a fashion designer/model. I mean, she's meant to be a doll demon IT'S RIGHT THERE!

I know you cut yourself off when you think you’re getting “too into a tangent” but I genuinely enjoy taking this little peek into how you think and would like to just generally hear your thought processes in depth. I know that’s not too reasonable of an ask but just know that it’s at least enjoyed by one of your viewers (who actually drops everything she does to watch your videos for design inspiration)
Btw the idea of her having eyes everywhere is so clever to me bc that’s a very typical thing people bring up when it comes to being anti social media because “someone is always looking at what you’re doing” and how “nothing is really private” OOO I love it. I also think the idea of her eyes being able to replay everything could be very vital to her character like in the episode where Vel and Carmella go head to head one of her EYES could’ve followed like that egg boy did.

I’m surprised by how much I adore this redesign!! It’s great, and seeing as she’s more of a model/promoter type now I can see how people would probably call her the “head of the industry” since she’s always associated with the brands and styles that end up popular

Velvette is the equivalent of my little brother making up a character and just putting in everything that loosely relates to the theme
The little giggle after the "baiii" at the end is everything
I know this is a bit out there, but I love the fact that Velvet is British, not just British but her specific accent is one that sounds more southern where most influences in the UK are. Also her accent reminds me so much of the girls who go on Love Island and I think that captures Velvet perfectly because most people go on that show for the limelight and most of them become social media stars at the end. I know it seems random but I think it's a subtle touch that emphasis her character.
velvet is like that one character that you throw whatever you have come up with/saw and liked recently before you figure out what you actually wanna do
Your design of Velvette (and the other V's) fixed a very huge problem I had with their OG look: they didn't stand out enough. If I walked down the street of Hell and saw OG Vel and your reimagined Vel walking together, my eyes are going to be drawn to your Vel. Like who designs a Overlords to blend into their enviroment, especially when said Overlords want to be in the public eye? I also couldn't stand how we got a black character yet she has the usual grey toned skin, no black features aside from her fro which was shown in a episode where she didn't even speak 💀
Besides that, I'm VERY thankful that you did her justice! This design is gorgeous and I'm excited to hear more about your revamp of HH, your ideas and designs are AMAZING! 💖

i've seen still using the # thing in conversation in a strictly joking way
and the one thing i can be certain of canon velvet is that she is almost certainly a composite character, she's got enough elements to fill out a minimum of 2 characters and a max of one small business worth of characters (designer, coordinator, model, spokesperson, and barkeep)

Velvette probably died when words like “hashtag” and “swipe right” were in vogue.
But she's supposed to be modern tho? She even remarks other demons to be old since they aren't as online as her so I'm pretty sure she'd know how to use modern slang
Hazbin Hotel cooked for 4 years and it’s still raw. It feels like the entirety of the first season was just the rough draft. Charlie being the princess of Hell and yet not knowing how to act around her people? Being naive to the point of not fully knowing what cannibal town was about? If anything, we should have been learning the lore of hell through Vaggie from Charlie. Have Vaggie not know what hells about since she’s been an Angel and has only been in hell a few years. Have the reason Charlie was THE ONLY FUCKIN PERSON THAT DIDNT PUT TWO AND TWO TOGETHER THAT HEY MAYBE MY GF IS AN ANGEL be because they just started dating. Like… the story is there it’s just not being used in a cohesive and frankly a narratively enthralling way.

I agree with you completely, the lore behind Velvet(te) is super confusing! Truth be told, I always imagined she'd be more like a bratty late teen social influencer compared to an early thirties fashion designer. Love the idea about the third eye to see into the future trends!
I wonder what would happen if her eye ended up getting injured at some point and she couldn't see what trends are popular? Would she have to make up random bs about what's future trending and if so, would sinner's actually go along with it?

Finally finished the video! God- I love this design so much!! Even though you had to complete rewrite her a bit to make her design work- Which, you shouldn’t have to but Velvette was definitely a multi flavored cake that was just too much- This Velvette works with the info we know, and still feels like the Velvette the show is trying to convey! She’s a trend setter, and a valuable part of the Vees!!
when is comes to velvettes song and the lyrics, it shows the language and slang of when she died imo, which is most likely the early to mid 2010s. plus like you said she's in her 30s and isnt knowledgeable about gen z language

Did you know that Vel's basically-oldest design had eyes on bows in her hair? I miss the eyes on demon designs I really do but great you saw how important they are anyways ! 🤣🤣🤣 (that old design also had the charm of many of Viv's older designs mainly including Zoophobia, there was just more basic care put into everything yknow? even if the design itself was too old looking it was a great start LOL)
Also I like looking up Avatar Catalog fits in Roblox for extra inspiration sometimes ! XD (They have a LOOT of fits from a simple range of items !)

I love this new design and reimagined! While I was glad to see Velvet did get outfit changes I was expecting something more like the character "Yas" from Ralph breaks the internet where every scene she is in she gets a different look for sorta representing trends and how fast they change. But in show Velvet personally I liked her finale outfit the most just because it did feel kinda younger and her fluffy hair (so cute). Now your design and reimagined, I feel like it is more cohesive and she strikes me more as one of those young adults who think they are the Meryl Streep of the fashion world when really they just have an Etsy shop and sell outfits they have made and then go on to do the fast fashion thing.

When I first saw Velvet in the show. I could not unseen the fact her colors are Pepsi logo colors. And now that's something I can't unsee. I love these colors you added and added your own twists into your designs
I love this design so much it really really fits the concept you’re going for. Although the Velvet in the show I think isn’t as offensive to me designed wise and characterizes because they’re really are people in their 30s who act like teenagers because they want to live vicariously through their Internet career. I’ve definitely seen characters like that in real life, and it would make sense that one of the older influencers would die first and start the trend in hell cause it seems like hell is behind modern times, due to the fact of the people down, there are typically the generation or older.
the eye thing just reminded me of Mrs. Heed (from Villianous) with her camera that follows her around:DD

My fav part about this design is the shape language. She has so many circles in her design that she gives bubbly influencer girl vibes, but then remembering her sharp claws, horns, and ears we are reminded she’s a demon too. 🤩

I really love this version of velvet, like the colors and the look of everything just looks so good. I really like the idea of her being a v-tuber or the eyes. I looked back at the old video you did on velvet a while back, and I really prefer this design. For some reason the old design just looks off to me for some reason. I think it was the head, but Idk. I also really love the other outfits you gave her, I drew fanart of this velvet when I was watching the old velvet. I said this enough times, but I love it so much, and the new ideas you gave her that I feel like works better than what she was given in the show.
Okay this actually ATE. is it for me? not rly I love her Og design but this is amazing too it's so YES.
Also, for her old ass slang and wording, I kinda assumed that it's from when she died in the 2010s and even though her whole thing is being modern and trendy, she will always hold her times closely (kinda like Vox does)
