The headlights on a 1967 weren't really a choice. They were supposed to be inboard, but several states required a minimum distance between the headlights and the outboard lights were made for those states. I grew up within walking distance of Koons Ford in the 1960's and 1970's. Super Stock Magazine was a local / regional magazine back then. it was sold at local speed shops and it covered local drag racers. My father drag raced semi-professionally from the late 1950's to around 1980 and had a subscription to Super Stock Magazine. In his early racing days, he knew the big names in racing and they knew him.

It's believed that the first approximately 200 cars had the inboard headlights until the laws was understood and the remainder produced were outboards...

@@jackdeforrest You are confusing the upper roof lights in air extractor scoop with the inboard to outboard switch.

Growing up in a small town during the 60's and 70's, Car Culture was King. In High School I had a 60 Belaire 2h with a 348, Tri power. All the fast guys knew not to mess with 'Chins' Mustang. It was a 68, 500KR, convertable. Fastest car around bar none. No one wanted to race him. Same color as the car in this video, with a white top

Buddy of mine in PA had one of those 68's. Same color too. It's a 500KR with the 428CJ motor. I have pictures of it somewhere. Real deal car that had been parked since the 80's. Not sure if he still has it but it was legit.

Interesting indeed, but it would take a little more actual fact retrieval to convince us that it was the same car in the magazine. They should get Bob Perkins involved with this one, I can't think of anyone more qualified to do this inquiry. Certainly a Marti Report would be a good start.

More video of the vehicle, and less of your Sparco shirt and flailing of the arms may improve video quality. Anyway, this car is okay, but there was a 68 GT Mustang vinyl roof Hardtop I saw on Adam-12 which looked interesting.

Great video and podcast. That car looks like the car that was online auctioned off a few years ago (I bid on it). I remember it being in Luray Va (auctioneer was VA or W. Va based) and the Koon’s sticker. Cool….great info

Great vid and history. My understanding of the 67 fiberglass problems, could be just an urban legend, is that the prototype 67 was thrashed and bent up, then given to Shelby to build the molds from, so the production pieces didn't quite fit and Shelby took a bad rap for poor quality. Partly why Shelby got out of the manufacture business with Ford, with Ford taking it over and Shelby basically just licensing his name from then on. The engines in '68 were not shelby-specific, like they were in 67. So 67 was the final true Shelby. I would love a 67 dual quad 500, but my bucket list is the Shelby-tweaked hipo 289 gt350 4speed. But any Shelby mustang is an amazing car.

Pretty common knowledge that only a handful of Shelby Mustangs were built at Venice facility, most 65s, all 66s as well as all 67s were built at LAX.

Far too many lf these cars are "restored" which is just another word for taking any factory originality out of it. I hope the next owner leaves it as is. It's curent condition tells the story of its life - including the crack in the grille surround. It's only original once.
