I’m so glad you reviewed A Fine Balance. I’m sure it’s been 20+ years since I read it with my book club. We all loved it. It is a masterpiece. You brought it all back and I’m glad you did. You did the book justice. 😘
I read A Fine Balance two years ago and it’s still stuck with me, I was absolutely floored by it, some of the greatest characters ever written, his writing is also hilarious, there’s funny moments on almost every page. It’s also heartbreaking and inspiring. I’ve read so many books since then and I still believe AFB is the best book I’ve ever read. You’re right about the length too, reading it I was just so grateful because it kept going, it’s such a generous book, Mistry was just churning out content of the highest calibre here, it’s like an author at their absolute peak leaving everything on the page! In case people haven’t heard, HBO will be adapting it into a miniseries which should be out in a year or so. 😁
I agree with your points here. It's going to be one of my best books of the year and I will not soon forget this story! I think this book is a triumph on every level. I didn't know about the miniseries. Thanks for sharing!!
I too have A Fine Balance to get toooo. Fantastic review. Really makes me want to pick it up. I don’t know why it’s so intimidating… it’s not that large, but I dunno. Interesting about Lean Fall Stand. I’ve been very curious about How High We Go. Seems veeeery polarizing. Ohh I hate lit gif that tries to do scifi but it’s incompetent *cough Klara and the Sun lol
Great beginning to the video hahaha! Found your channel via your comment on bookish sabrina’s video and I like the kind of books you read. Hi! i LOVED How High We Go In The Dark!
I'm so glad to hear how much you enjoyed A Fine Balance. I read it in 2011 and gave it 5 stars and I've been wondering recently if it was actually any good as I don't think I was a very good judge back then 🤣 you've made me want to reread it asi remember adoring it but crying loads! I felt the same about how high we go in the dark. I couldn't put my finger on what was bad about the writing but it just didn't work for me. I felt like I was reading a book and didn't care about any of the stuff that should have been sad.
Oh man it is definitely a book that made me incredibly uncomfortable for all the suffering the characters went through, but my main takeaway is just how smartly written it is!! I was so glad to see your video reviewing How High because I was glad to see I wasn't the only one who couldn't quite get it.
It's been so long since I read A Fine Balance and I don't remember very much except that it was bleak and I loved it. You made me want to reread it soon.
I’ve had A Fine Balance sitting on my TBR for a while. It’s one of those books I expect to love but worry won’t love as much as I “should”, so keep putting it off. You’ve convinced me to just dive in!
New to your channel! I do not read romance either but the hype got to me with Love Hypothesis so I read it. It was fine but ya not my thing. A Fine Balance is one of my all time favorite reads.
You read three books high on my list, A Fine Balance, The Fortune Man...I had watched a video on the actual man...and the Jon McGregor book. So could we go back in time and switch places in May?? Haha..just month for you in Alabama.
I had big plans for my reading this year. In January I started A Fine Balance then, intending to read it slowly over 3/4 months. It’s now June and I still haven’t finished it! In May I only read 3 books. The best of these are The Rain Heron by Robbie Arnott The Colony by Audrey Magee ☘️ 👋🍀☕️📖📚📕
I just saw Matthew Sciarappa's video on The Rain Heron and I am intrigued. I didn't love Robbie Arnott's last book Flames, but I am curious about this one.

I just finished A Fine Balance, I am still in shock of how miserable life could be. A great book, a masterpiece…

"bleak and I loved it" would've been a great short review for this book!

Okay, you just gave the BEST review of a romance novel in Booktube history! 😂😂😂 You had me howling over here!
Maybe I should only read and review romances now 🥴🥴🥴
I read this book over 15 years ago still the most heartbreaking book I’ve read 😢
