Everyone started making documentary style videos and it’s been so cool to see Nate’s videos transition to this high effort, quality video creation from his shorter videos (although those rocked too), awesome job mate
Charmer is my current favorite band in emo. Been listening to them since Best Worst Birthday and have loved everything since. I knew of Zack from skateboarding and it was really cool to see him join Charmer. Can't wait to see what else they come up with!
The line about how charmers music doesn’t feel like layers but instead each one holding hands with the other is spot on. It clicked in my head instantly. Getting the info directly from the band instead of just ripping from blog sites 100% of the time makes for great journalism too! Love the content mate.
Charmers recent release “ivy” had my jaw drop to the floor after listening just half way through. The album was just so clean in comparison to most in the genre. Such refreshing call and response between the guitarists. Amazing bass lines that tell their own melodic story underneath the story. Insane drumming that hits heavy yet is incredibly fast and technical. Crisp vocals that don’t distract. There was a huge rush of nostalgia I got from hearing this sound. I grew up snowboarding and listening to emo music and this really encapsulated that early 2000’s sound I had been searching for. Bands like Title Fight sufficed in this nostalgic want, but Charmer really hit the nail on the head. Reminded me a lot of Mock Orange. (Check out the songs Even Time, She Runs the Ride and Poster Child by Mock Orange)
I've been watching Nate's videos for a while now and this is definitely my favorite one to date. I got into Charmer after I saw them play a house show in late 2018 with Kayak Jones and I was hooked right away because their live set is so good. Their first LP is one of my favorite records ever and I'm also really liking Ivy so far. It's awesome seeing them get bigger and gain more exposure.
I met him once at a show he played after a skate shop, he’s a really really cool dude and told me about what it’s like being a school sub and playing in a band lmao
At first, I clicked on this thinking it was a Charmer full album but then I was pleasantly surprised that it's a new Nate the Mate vid. I love watching these videos, and look forward to each new one you make.
hello again fellow nate. i’ve been looking for something different recently and i think this might be the band i’ve been looking for. what an excellent video, thanks man. ur mate, nate xo
Listening to this band right now and I haven't got this feeling since the first time I heard Taking Back Sunday's classic Tell All Your Friends. I love it! Thank you, they have a new fan!
I’ve been listening to them since the first album came out and they’ve been my favorite for so long. They played their first album in full at excellency fest in bay city Michigan and it was insane
Their set at Excellency last year was awesome. Hearing the whole first album live was a really special moment for me. The other highlight of it for me was when David's brother came out to play the trumpet parts.
Spotify showed me their ep way back and I patiently waited for their self title album. Seriously one of my favorite bands so much so they were my favorite band of the decade according to Spotify.
this seriously means A LOT. I still feel like I'm really finding my style and developing my content, so I deeply appreciate you saying that. My goal is to never stop progressing my format and to just keep trying to improve or further what I'm doing with each vid I make. Love you mate, stay safe
Dude I watched this last night and I checked out Charmers first album and it wasn't bad.. little too sad (yes I know it's emo but still) but I got through it. Listening to the second album now and it's so so much better and so well written! You may have turned me on to a new band! Cheers mate hope all is well
I've always felt like these dudes were slept on. Way to improve your production quality while maintaining the charm. Great video, glad to have you around
No RUclipsr makes me as excited as Nate when they upload a video and I agree this is one of your best videos to date, keep it up man you're doing great
As soon as I heard you say emo band, I right away went to the Is This Band Emo website. As soon as I saw the website page in the video I died of laughter. Thanks for another masterpiece, band recommendation, and a good laugh. Keep up the awesome work!!! Love & Respect!!!
Previously I heard VCR 666 but this took me deeper into their stuff, thanks for all the details like how they worked with Jake Ewald and went through other dilemmas
Nate you are seriously doing some good shit! Please don’t ever stop. You are just as important as emo is. Keep it up mate! It’s because of you I went back and listened to mariettas summer death and fell in love with it. You got a passion for emo, please don’t burn out. Keep the flame going.
Your videos are the best ever. Getting to know awesome bands. Very well informed videos, such a calm voice, good insights into their music and stories. A very good work there Nate! much much much love from germany
Those days are gone by free throw is my favourite album. I'm glad it got a small look in in this vid. Please talk about them they are great and the world deserves to know
Been dying to find new bands that stand out in this genre so this video was really helpful! Another band to check out are macseal, their EP from 2017 is actually fire
I found out about Charmer a few months ago when they popped up in my daily mix and I was hooked. I'm so happy about their recent album and I can't forget when Charmer posted that they send random pictures of houses to fans who ask about their next album.
3 things: 1. I love your videos and look forward to becoming big enough one day with my own music to have you make a vid on me. 2. Can u please make a documentary on No Sleep Records (if u haven't already)? 3. Thank u for helping so many of us get through quarantine
Great video nate thanks to your channel i have found a lot of bands i like and i smiled when you referred to charmer as the Frank Ocean of emo keep up the good work
Nate, I love your videos and I always find a new level of appreciation for each band after you do a video on them. What’s your opinion on doing a video on Brave Bird or Microwave? Keep up the good work. It’s awesome to see the quality of your videos constantly improving 👏
Always weird to see Marquette pop up places. We're not a big city, but I spent some of the best years of my life there. 200+ inches of snow a year is the perfect foundation for emo haha
Also have u heard of safe to say. They go by locket now witch is more poppy and mainstream, but safe to say started out pretty emo with there spilt EP and their first album. Than they turned more alternative/indie with their second album and their EP called hiding games.
There is a band named Bigger Better Sun that doesn’t seem to get a lot of recognition. If you haven’t heard their album Comfort Foods, you should. It’s fantastic
Love the video and documentary style! Charmer deserves everything its headed for, but i do have one question, probably a dumb one, but would they be considered midwest emo? becuase a lot of the chorus I hear is sort of like the child of Marietta, idk I might be the only one lol.
Have you heard of Charmer?
If not, I hope this vid helped you find a cool new band!
Nate The Mate yes! I discovered them cuz I keep a close watch on no sleep recs
I've heard of them but I don't think I've ever heard their stuff
Well guess what Nate ive seen them on poppunkmerchwall huhehueee but didnt know their name so thank u
I hadn't, but now I'm excited to check them out.
@@laurenmontressor4149 you will not be disappointed

mate this made me so freakin happy. Thank you for being here since the beginning
Finally... refreshing your page pays off
the fact that anyone is willing to do that for something I make blows my mind. Love you mate, hope you have a good one!

Yo honestly thanks for this video. Found this band through this video and still listening to them almost daily a year later.

Another great underrated emo band is “I’m Glad It’s You” really cool and unique sound
"Late night on curbsides"
I met him once at a show he played after a skate shop, he’s a really really cool dude and told me about what it’s like being a school sub and playing in a band lmao
Levi Solorzano that’s fucking sweet man, sounds like a sick ass concert as well
Thanks for the band. Freakin good stuff
I think there was kinda a version 2.5 where Matt of the bands Fixer and WSBL played bass for Charmer when they were on tour in 2017-2018.
Have ever heard of origami angel or short fictions they’re great
will check them out
gami gang
they aight but their pokemon ep is fucking awful bro
Pavement that’s their least serious material they really became the band everyone is hyped about with somewhere cuty
Big bump, seen both of those bands in a basement in Milwaukee, WI, it was INSANE
This is really cool and kinda surreal to watch. I live in the same town as all these guys, really great group of people. Thanks for making this!
At first, I clicked on this thinking it was a Charmer full album but then I was pleasantly surprised that it's a new Nate the Mate vid. I love watching these videos, and look forward to each new one you make.
This is the kind of content I've longed for: video essays on emo/pop punk bands that I love. I'd really like to see a video on Heart Attack Man!
Hell yeah glad to see you talk about Charmer
love you jacob
Awesome video, charmer is in my top 5 favorite bands, didn't know much about them so this was very interesting
Another awesome entry in the Nate the Mate Emo Origin Story series
Also Wolf Fang Fist and Chandelier got me feeling some type of way
Zack Schrum chandelier is my fave off the album, feels like a follow up to bummer summer
Thank you so much for giving me my new favourite band! Also, a video on Hotel Books?
hello again fellow nate. i’ve been looking for something different recently and i think this might be the band i’ve been looking for.
what an excellent video, thanks man.

thanks for the rec man, these guys are sick.
Bro... thank you for letting me know about this. Might be my new favorite of all time
Found these guys because of you Nate! Sick band
Listening to this band right now and I haven't got this feeling since the first time I heard Taking Back Sunday's classic Tell All Your Friends. I love it! Thank you, they have a new fan!
hey this is really cool Nate, didn't even know half this stuff about Charmer. Do you think you'll work with bands in the future?
I’ve been listening to them since the first album came out and they’ve been my favorite for so long. They played their first album in full at excellency fest in bay city Michigan and it was insane
Their set at Excellency last year was awesome. Hearing the whole first album live was a really special moment for me. The other highlight of it for me was when David's brother came out to play the trumpet parts.
I was there too! It was a cathartic experience for sure!!! That album is so wonderful front to back and hearing it live that way was unreal
Spotify showed me their ep way back and I patiently waited for their self title album. Seriously one of my favorite bands so much so they were my favorite band of the decade according to Spotify.
Not many people can pull of this format of video, but Nate continues to impress

I found charmer by accident like a year and half ago. I’ve been obsessed ever since
Saw their picture with Forest Green's singer. Should do a video on them, they have been killing it for a long time too.
Turnover-Magnolia vibes with more twinkles. Perfection. Best of 2020 so far
