    Heather Phillipson
    Dates: 12 July 2024 - 26 January 2025
    Exhibition Opening:
    Glynn Vivian at Night, Thursday 11 July, 2024, 5:30pm - 8:00 pm
In Out of this World, Heather Phillipson plots a sequence of sonic and atmospheric conditions that conjure airspace, aerospace and outer space.
Responding to the ghostly communications of radar, sonar and unidentified aerial phenomena, Phillipson fills Glynn Vivian’s galleries with tuned, automated noises and dematerialised images that float and pulsate, creating what she calls ‘a visual and acoustic fog’. This fog is, like some aspects of warfare, hallucinatory - generating apparitions, premonitions and phantasmagoria.
Through the foregrounding of sound as a force that modulates physical and affective dynamics, Out of this World maps out a vibratory field that acts almost meteorologically.
Heather Phillipson: Out of this World is an IWM 14-18 NOW Legacy Fund commission in partnership with Glynn Vivian Art Gallery.
This new commission includes works from Imperial War Museums’ (IWM) Collection and Cyfarthfa Castle Gallery and Museum, as well as a display from the Glynn Vivian permanent collection.
This new commission is accompanied by a public, learning and schools programme. For more information, sign up to the Glynn Vivian mailing list.
The IWM 14-18 NOW Legacy Fund is a national partnership programme of over 20 artist commissions inspired by the heritage of conflict. Led by Imperial War Museums, the IWM 14-18 NOW Legacy Fund was created following the success of 14-18 NOW, the official UK arts programme for the First World War centenary. The £2.5 million commissioning programme has been made possible thanks to the success of Peter Jackson’s critically acclaimed film They Shall Not Grow Old, co-commissioned by IWM and 14-18 NOW.

Yn Out of this World, mae Heather Phillipson yn plotio cyfres o amodau sonig ac atmosfferig sy'n cymell awyrofod, gofod awyr a'r gofod.
Gan ymateb i gyfathrebu rhithiol radar, sonar a ffenomena erial anhysbys, mae Phillipson yn llenwi orielau'r Glynn Vivian â synau awtomataidd, tiwniedig a delweddau disylweddol sy'n arnofio ac yn curo, gan greu'r hyn y mae'n ei alw'n 'niwl gweledol ac acwstig.' Mae'r niwl hwn, fel rhai agweddau ar ryfel, yn rhithiol - gan greu rhithiau, rhagargoelion a ffantasmagoria.
Drwy ddefnyddio sŵn fel y nodwedd fwyaf amlwg, fel grym sy'n trawsgyweirio deinameg ffisegol ac affeithiol, mae Out of this World yn mapio maes dirgrynol sy'n gweithredu bron fel meteor.
Comisiynwyd arddangosfa Heather Phillipson: Out of this World gan Gronfa Waddol 14-18 NOW yr Amgueddfa Ryfel Ymerodrol mewn partneriaeth ag Oriel Gelf Glynn Vivian.
Mae'r comisiwn newydd hwn yn cynnwys gwaith o gasgliad yr Amgueddfa Ryfel Ymerodrol ac Oriel ac Amgueddfa Castell Cyfarthfa, yn ogystal ag arddangosfa o gasgliad parhaol y Glynn Vivian.
Mae rhaglen gyhoeddus, rhaglen ddysgu a rhaglen i ysgolion yn cyd-fynd â'r comisiwn newydd hwn. Am ragor o wybodaeth, cofrestrwch ar gyfer rhestr bostio'r Glynn Vivian.
Mae Cronfa Waddol 14-18 NOW yr Amgueddfa Ryfel Ymerodrol yn rhaglen partneriaeth genedlaethol o dros 20 o gomisiynau gan artistiaid, wedi'u hysbrydoli gan dreftadaeth gwrthdaro. Cafodd Cronfa Waddol 14-18 NOW yr ARY, a arweinir gan Amgueddfeydd Rhyfel Ymerodrol, ei sefydlu yn dilyn llwyddiant 14-18 NOW, rhaglen gelfyddydau swyddogol y DU ar gyfer canmlwyddiant y Rhyfel Byd Cyntaf. Mae'r rhaglen gomisiynu £2.5 miliwn wedi cael ei gwneud yn bosib diolch i lwyddiant ffilm glodwiw Peter Jackson, They Shall Not Grow Old, a gomisiynwyd gan yr ARY a 14-18 NOW.
