When Gordon says he gets better every year, I believe it. He looks better now than he did during this tournament. Which is saying a lot because he looks really good here.
Everyone saying that gaudio won, gaudio was running the entire match, Gordon got his back and almost submitted him, and yet they say if gaudio run the last minute he could have won, so we are encouraging cowardice and running away or we want a competitive successful sport and martial art, everyone hates Gordon because he is not Brazilian.
Raven Luma Maybe I'm in the minority but i think Gordon Ryan is badass and possesses sic skills. I agree with everything you said. How can anyone not it's just the truth. That dude kept disengaging and running.
He was trying to pass Ryan’s guard a lot, which is damn near impossible and takes a ton of energy. I don’t think he was running I think he was just winded. You make too many mistakes when you’re sucking air, which can be seen right at the end where Ryan gets his back. Ryan almost always plays bottom guard and makes his opponent work harder than him to pass so they get tired faster. Good strategy in my opinion.
There is a certain swagger about Gordon Ryan before each bout. Like hes thinking about how long should he let his opponent think he has a shot before he finish him. Out of all the sports ive only seen one other athlete have that type of swagger and that was his airness Michael Jordan. 10.31min - Oh boy I think you could of won Gaudio if you just focused more which cost you the match lol. Duarte did the same thing too cost him the match. Too casual right at the end instead of a never say die attitude.
Why did Ryan keep attacking leg positions? If hooks are not allowed? He showed towards the end. When he stepped on the gas. That he could take his opponent down. And expose the back starting to take control from there. Why wasn't the take down working on top his game plan from the start? He just ran out of time.
Because those leg positions are very controlling and are sweeps if you just come up and he feels more comfortable using sweeps rather than play the takedown game.
Also other leg locks are allowed. Just not heel hooks. Which is a stupid rule at this level of competition. You should know how to do it and what it feels like and how to get out/don’t get caught to begin with if you are as good as these guys.
Patrick was not engaging. Lame. Gordon attacked the whole time. And Pat sat out and did not attack at all. I hate the point game. It’s a performance excuse, not to go for a sub the whole match.

I would support a rule that if you stand up, disengage with your opponent and turn your back to your opponent that would qualify as a submission, similar to boxing.
So you should walk into a footlock? Its about strategy. Patrick is trying to establish his grips and position without giving up his. Ryan is doing the same thing which is why he pulled guard. Patrick was trying to pass and was fully engaged the entire time but he had to approach the situation carefully.
