- Join Dr. Denise M. Murrell, Merryl H. and James S. Tisch Curator at Large in The Met’s Director's Office, for a virtual tour of the groundbreaking exhibition The Harlem Renaissance and Transatlantic Modernism.
Through some 160 works of painting, sculpture, photography, film, and ephemera, it will explore the comprehensive and far-reaching ways in which Black artists portrayed everyday modern life in the new Black cities that took shape in the 1920s-40s in New York City’s Harlem and nationwide in the early decades of the Great Migration when millions of African Americans began to move away from the segregated rural South. The first art museum survey of the subject in New York City since 1987, the exhibition will establish the Harlem Renaissance and its radically new development of the modern Black subject as central to the development of international modern art.
On view February 25 - July 28, 2024.

Thank you Mrs Murrell and all the Met Team for the wonderful exhibition. I didn’t know that much about the Harlem Renaissance mouvement before watching the video. I’m blown away by the artworks of all these creatives minds.
I saw these when the exhibit first opened and it was where I found myself spending the most of my time, me and my friend went back to that room twice!

❤Thanks for sharing awesome
I went for my Birthday, last week....it was fantastic.
Excellent!!❤❤❤😊
I had the privilege to see this exhibit before museum hours and to experience this was amazing. It was so clean and the way it flows was top notch. My favorite section was “NIGHTLIFE”. The lighting fit the vibes that the art was telling and I spent most of my time there. Thank you for this exhibit, this video and I can’t wait to bring my family to see it.
Love this episode. It makes me want to book an airline ticket to NY. And visit the museum and Harlem. I only went to Garlem once when I lived in NY❤
Thank goodness for such a comprehensive exploration of the exhibition. Already ordered the catalogue
Beautifully presented pictures of our history and culture from talented artists of the past.
MS. Denise Murell ❤❤❤❤Thank you so .
Back in the autumn, I decided I would give a talk on Harlem Renaissance. I had picked 1920s in a draw at my U3A Art Appreciation class....so I started reading, books I got second hand and began to plan what to cover. Then, Iwas amazed to see this exhibition advertised on my mobile. The video is superb, amazing and has helped me a lot. The catalogue is a joy to read and study the pictures. Sadly, a visit is not possible.Thankyou so much from Swindon, England.
This video is EXCELLENT. I've seen quite a few of these works at a show at a show Pepperdine University. The MET show looks wonderful.
❤❤❤❤❤
I wish this was at the High here in Atlanta. This is amazing! 👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿
I'm looking forward to seeing this exhibit.
I went to the MET and I loved it! It was my introduction to art. I didn’t know if I would like it because I don’t know about paintings etc. But they offer tours, and you get to discuss the art pieces and learn about history etc.I recommend going.😃
I am an art school graduate and this video made me realise that I knew very little about art. I wish I could see this exhibition.
Well done - Thank you!
The portraits were my favorite thank you
Gorgeous!
Great show.
Beautiful exhibition
Schöner Vortrag !
This was wonderful to see. I am doing my best to plan a trip to see it.
Exquisite!!!
This is a wonderful and educational video.😊😊
Wow 😲
Harlem Renaissance?! Yes Please!
Jacob Lawrence is an important figure too. Saw one of his works here but didn’t hear his name mentioned.
Wow!
Portrait art and artist rendition is totally different Jonrahs of art.
Is William H. Johnson's 1945 painting "Marian Anderson," in this exhibition? And what about Jacob Lawrence's works?
🌼💐🌼
I wonder about how when these demographic and historic shifts that take place on a global level, the context of the time is never mentioned outside of racism. There was a world war just prior that these artists were responding to in order to lift up the community world wide. I think this is the more important point, rather than focusing on the hatred in some, why not focus on the light intended for everyone.

Mr. Hollein you are playing a prank on us, right? The artistic skill in these paintings is underwhelming. In fact there is none. No virtuousity in form or colour, no knowlegde of form and colour. It is really an insult to the viewers expertise. It seems like an accident, that these paintings ended up in the MET.
Awful
Excellent exhibition.
