I just ended a 13-year friendship that was built kind of on a power imbalance, and had me endure a very stressful and taxing situation a few years back, just because I didn't want to inconvenience my friend and thought I had to put up with it because that's how it was supposed to be done. Me growing an effing backbone and centering my life around myself in the past years made me realize how little this friendship actually enriches my life, to the point of detriment actually, even if it's not her doing or her intent, and so I cut ties the other week with a heavy heart, and I feel so much better since then.
