My grandfather was a carpenter and the garage was full of his machines. This felt like watching him. Thank you so much! Your editing is also sublime.
This is just fantastic! So wonderful to see an old sewing machine get back to work. Amazing that such an old machine was really in good condition and is now usable again. Goes to show the quality of yesteryear- compared to today's throwaway products. Thank you for restoring it to it's former glory! Makes me want to go get out my 1868 Singer and do some sewing. I used to make reproduction Civil War uniforms on this machine. Thanks again, I REALLY enjoyed watching. Made my day!

What amazes me the most is someone actually designed and made all the parts in the first place. Rebuilding after cleaning and fixing is amazing imo, but I can't even contempt the task of creating such a useful bit of machinery to begin with.
The thing I really loved about this video is that there was no awful music! It spoils so many videos instead of making them relaxing and enjoyable. Thanks for a great video!

Absolutely stunning!!!😮😍 I'm not sure if Singer used the "coffin" style decals that early but I definitely could be wrong. I have a 1922 Singer on a treadle with those decals. I do know the used them for many years. I'm not sure when they started using those decals. I think they will look amazing on your gorgeous piece of art. A piece of art that I hope is used for another hundred+ years.❤
Great job on 1882 singer sewing machine restoration. Working after 140 years !!! Restoration in the back room 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
140 years later this Singer sewing machine is nearly exactly the same as mine manufactured 100 years later. Except for some electricity and some fancy stitches I recognize all the moving parts. Amazing, but the old saying “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” still rings true. Can’t wait to see how all the decals look after you get them back! Great job!!
Back in 1968, as a teenager I bought a used 1952 Singer, a fairly common one made in New Jersey. It is a work horse. Although I don't use it all that much, when I need it, I need it. A few years ago I bought a new cheap portable sewing machine because it had all the bells and whistles and to do some interesting things that my Singer can't do. But I can't get used to it, and there is no room to put heavy material between the needle and the machine. So I find I keep going back to my Singer. I have lovingly put a lot of time disassembling the machine, cleaning, greasing and oiling it, and in doing so realized this machine is a piece of art. Every piece is so well made, and the chrome pieces are like jewels. It represents what we were and where we came from. I like to be reminded of that. In comparison my newer machine is but a computer with a needle on it. I felt good to see you bring this beauty back.
I'm always amazed at how you and others that do restorations can take something completely apart and put it back together. If I were to do something like this, I would probably have parts leftover... not a good thing. Great job! I enjoyed watching the video.
I don't do resotration for a living but I've restored a few dozen vintage sewing machines over the years. Recording every item you remove in order and showing the item clearly, as they do for restoration videos really helps. I don't post my videos but I started recording my work after being inspired by some restoration videos here on youtube. You even know exactly how each mechanism was engaged. If you're ever lost you can rewatch yourself take it apart. After some time and experience you need less and less because you'll get better. Also storing the parts in an organized way, like a lettered or numbered set of containers, as you pull it apart helps too. I always say out loud the number of the box the current part is going into. I use a bunch of tupperware with sharpie numbers on them.
@@jsmxwll I never did restorations, but I did repair laptop computers. I used to use tackle trays, and as each set of screws were removed, those screws would go into an individual compartment in the tray, along with a small piece of paper describing where the screws came from.

I just bought my first sewing machine, a Singer from ~1950. It's amazing how well it works and I'm happy I can do minor repairs and upkeep by myself. These machines really were made to last and I'm happy this one has a new life.
This is the most beautiful restoration video I've ever seen. It's so good to see a sewing machine get revived into working condition again. So often these types of machines are something I see in disrepair and being used only for decoration.
I've waited a long time to see a video like this. I'm lucky to have a few of this model and have been cleaning them up as best I can with minimal dismantling. I haven't got anything like enough skills to go as far as you but this will get me a lot further along than I've managed so far. That reverse-threaded screw took me a lot longer than 30 minutes to figure out when I came up against the same problem you had. I still haven't found a service manual for these and don't know if they made one so this video is a huge help. Thank you.
It is easier to criticize than to do. I'm not a restorer, but your restoration has left a lot to be desired from my point of view. The machine is precious and deserves a second life.
That machine was once mounted on a treadle frame, as the two holes on the right hand side are for the leather belt to run thru. Also the holes at the Singer nameplate were for mounting a device that wound the bobbin. Great job of restoration.
Thank you for your comment. Before starting work with this sewing machine, I spent a lot of time looking for a device for winding thread on a bobbin, but all searches were in vain.

Good job! Well I lucked out yesterday and found an 1871 fiddlebase. It is dirty, but the decals are pretty good. The handle was broken off the wheel where it fits to the base, but that was done a long time ago. The handle will still stay in its place because of the pins on the broken end. You are fortunate that you know how to make the parts that are broken,. You are very talented!
The sewing machine looks amazing. Well done. My granny had an old singer sewing machine but it was on a special table and had a big ornate pedal you pushed up and down to work the machine. I loved the sound of it when my granny was using it. The electric ones are way faster but I still prefer the old manual ones ❤
You're right, the sound of old hand sewing machines is amazing. Electric sewing machines are certainly much more productive, but they have lost the magic that the old Singers have.
This is so cool. I always enjoy watching Singer machines being restored. Isaac Singer was my Grandmother's great grand dad. So way up the family tree I was kin to the man who started all the Singer empire. Only bad thing about it, he forgot to leave me an inheritance.... lol...
What??? Isaac Singer is your relative???? This is very cool!!! Even if he did not leave a legacy, the very fact that your family had such significant personalities is worth a lot.
@@ITBR_Restoration I don't know how significant it is but I used it for bragging rights when I get the chance. I've read that he was a very talented and creative man. I think those traits were passed down through to my grandmother and my Mom. They are both the most talented women. I have never found anything my Mom can't do. Awesome artist with any kind of medium you can think of. Musician and can play anything she touches. She has so many incredible things she has made over the years and everyone says her house looks like a museum. And here I am bragging again....
@@dannywilsher4165 He was a very talented man. The class 15 sewing machine system was directly his design from way back in 1866 just after he quit from the company. The oscillating shuttle was Singer's patent and found on the Singer Improved Family machines from 1879-1883 on the bobbin plate. That Machine ended up being what most machines are designed on, the class 15 and the needle for that machine is the standard needle used on domestic sewing machine to this day. I research Singer sewing machie from 1851-1900 plus and am published in ISMACS.
@@alibabafurball That's cool you researching Singer history. I have also and he was a pretty sharp man. I think the thing I liked most about him was the way he started the idea of letting women buy a machine on credit. I read he made lots of money by financing his machines.
After death of my Father My mom started to sew cloths of Nighbourhood and this kind of machine helped our family to get bread and butter and she passed away last year May all mighty Bless her soul. It's emotional to watch this video.
When I was a kid my great grandmother taught me to sew and use a sewing machine on a Singer that was almost identical to this. My mother still has it. It’s in great condition and still mounted to the antique sewing cabinet that it always was.
Brilliant on every level - I love these old Singers and was lucky enough to get a good working one on ebay for a song.. I use it practically daily... It dates to 1933 and is as good now as it was then... Your video was absolutely riviting... thank you.
That Literally is a working piece of Art. It's amazing how that sewing machine works using simple principles and still works as it did when new. Even without the stickers,It's Absolutely beautiful!
In an age where hi tech is everything In my opinion this has more style and way more reliable then most machines. I agree about the sound a nice sewing machine makes and I could listen for hours.
You are right - this is an amazing sound, I don’t even know what to compare it with, I think that there are even no analogues. This sound is mesmerizing!
I would have never been able to put it back together...Lol! What a fantastic job! Can't wait to see the final restoration. Amazing how it STILL runs. Quality made. Thank you for sharing. 😊❤🪡🧵
Oh, how lovely she is. I would give my eye-teeth to find one in decent order! What a magnificent old Lady, she is, and what grace you've given back to her. Always love seeing the tools of my trade being given new love, and new life.
Neskutečný....pracuji jako brašnář a sedlář a přesně takový stroj mívával můj dědeček. Mechanismus a krása tohoto šicího stroje jen září. Nedokázal jsem odtrhnout zrak a zavřít pusu. Poctivé České ručičky. Dávám palec i odběr, určitě jsi mě svým přístupem k restaurování naprosto pohltil.
Nice work. Only next time Singer used a matte or flat Black enamel on their machines back then and the hand wheel on all of the ones I've ever seen were painted completely black also. Got two of these machines still in the family with the original finish. One late 1890's the other 1905.
Pre 1930, most of those older sewing machines and pretty much all singers I've every worked on were japanned rather than enameled. Japanning can be quite glossy when it first cures but mats up in a few years, especially as the oil from hands gets on it and it gets repeatedly wiped down and lightly abraded with cloths and such. Japanning is much more durable than the enamels of the day as well. When well applied it is very difficult to chip off and offers excellent protection. You see it on things like old tools that were expected to take a decent amount of wear. Check vintage stanley handplanes for example. It's pretty interesting stuff.
I hope you used Singer Sewing machine oil. You don't want to void the warranty.
It really was very funny😁😁😁

You're right, the sound of old hand sewing machines is amazing. Electric sewing machines are certainly much more productive, but they have lost the magic that the old Singers have.
I learned to sew on an antique Singer treadle machine.
So cool to see this beautiful piece restored!
Well done, I can remember using one of these many years ago. Very reliable
That's right, the car is incredibly reliable!
Bạn rất khéo tay tháo lắp và sửa chữa phục hồi lại được cái máy cổ này, giỏi lắm rất tuyệt vời.
Wow, this is a very interesting and at the same time sad story.
Singer sewing machines are incredible long lasting beautiful pieces of engineering!
You are right, this mechanism is very simple and therefore it will work forever! there is simply nothing to break here!
Amazing restoration. Absolutely beautiful!!
Thanks for watching and supporting!
When I was a kid my great grandmother taught me to sew and use a sewing machine on a Singer that was almost identical to this. My mother still has it. It’s in great condition and still mounted to the antique sewing cabinet that it always was.
Linda vovó máquina, agora, voltou a vida. Parabéns! Belo trabalho.
Brilliant on every level - I love these old Singers and was lucky enough to get a good working one on ebay for a song.. I use it practically daily... It dates to 1933 and is as good now as it was then... Your video was absolutely riviting... thank you.
Wow, thanks for your story and words of support!!!
Exellet restoration!. The great detail is that you didn't commit the error of LASER the brand and decorations, keep it 100% 1882.
Beautiful restoration! Fantastic job! Bravo!
Thanks for watching and your rating!
That Literally is a working piece of Art. It's amazing how that sewing machine works using simple principles and still works as it did when new. Even without the stickers,It's Absolutely beautiful!

@Mr Mechanized fantastic, really good sewing machines
In an age where hi tech is everything In my opinion this has more style and way more reliable then most machines. I agree about the sound a nice sewing machine makes and I could listen for hours.
You are right - this is an amazing sound, I don’t even know what to compare it with, I think that there are even no analogues. This sound is mesmerizing!
Trabalho maravilhoso parabéns. Estou encantada. Ficou linda dimais.
Aqui de Carapicuíba . Brasil. Abraços.

In fact, it’s not so difficult to assemble, just watch your video in reverse order and assemble)))
@@ITBR_Restoration 😄
Fantastic work.
🤗🤗🤗Thanks
Oh, how lovely she is. I would give my eye-teeth to find one in decent order! What a magnificent old Lady, she is, and what grace you've given back to her. Always love seeing the tools of my trade being given new love, and new life.
I have one .I like to sell it.
