Come for a ride in the cab of MERLIN , a one foot gauge steam locomotive as it climbs the 1 in 30 grades of the privately owned Linton Railway and listen to the driver explaining what he is doing
Looks like an absolute blast to be a part of. Had an idea to do a vr podcast with interviews of former railway employees, given that alot of them have either passed or getting on abit. Their memories deserve to be recorded & kept for future generations who would be interested in our railways history.
Hi John, very enjoyable video, like the guys building the miniature passenger car I am slowly restoring the exterior of our sleeping car ( Torrens ) at the Newport Railway Museum where I am a volunteer. Stay safe Cheers Lee
Cracking set up you've got there, can see you're making a great job of it, can only get better! Thanks for sharing the sights and sounds, and good luck with the railway. 🙂👍
Beautiful loco and railway! I'm from Poole in England, UK. We have an old 10 1/4" line in the public park.(Poole Park Railway) The local government want to re-build it to 12" gauge. This is exactly the type of loco they would need. Thanks. Do you know if there are any drawings available anywhere for this loco?
@@johnphillips592 >>> I watched the previous video on the _MERLIN,_ and I just started watching this one. One thing I am unclear on, maybe I missed it in the previous vid or you will cover it later in this one: As I understand it, _MERLIN_ is a _replica_ of an existing steam engine, though not exact scale. Was the original engine ALSO a 12-inch gauge?

For this good explanation with the practical model of this steam locomotive engine.. I am your new friend from India 🇮🇳
Some of these clips remind me of the classic seasons of Thomas the tank engine and friends
Love these types of videos, keep them coming!

Sorry Robin , Merlin was built by Ken Tate and all the drawings are in his head unfortunately .

@@Allan_aka_RocKITEman Merlin is a half sized replica of a 2 foot gauge Kerr Stuart loco in England .
Loco certainly has a decent lean at 9:05!
Due to Covid restrictions we have not been able to be there for many months , we are now in the process of rectifying these faults .
Wow! Its meeee
Lets be honest this is a childhood dream
Another enjoyable video by you John do you know how much it would cost to build or buy a locomotive like the one you were on.
Sorry , no idea , Ken built that loco himself , I would say they wouldn't be cheep to buy considering the amount of skilled work needed to build one .
Starting at about 11:51 in this video: Was that a _dog_ up ahead by the tracks?
*EDIT:* I think 16:31 in the video answers my question...😊
Hey Ho, will share with my frriend in Canberra a retired tram driver
Thank you
What is the maximum grade can narrow gauge engines climb? Some standard gauge engines can only climb a maximum of 2%
Would love to see a progress videos on Kate.
There will be more videos on the progress of Katie
@@johnphillips592 Awesome

7 1/4 ?
No, 12 inch gauge .
how fast does it go?
It's the grades and curves on the line that dictate the speed , remember it's only one foot gauge , we have never had it flat out for obvious reasons
Ou avez vous acheter cette locomotive
how much do those trains cost
They are all hand made so no idea
Is this in New Zealand?
It's located in the outer east of Melbourne Australia .
Where do you buy the locomotives for one foot gauge railways?
These were hand made by the owner , but they are available from people like Sweet Creek .
Sweet creek a website?
@@electricgaming9914 Yes , look up Sweet Creek Locomotive
Nothing came up
@@electricgaming9914 Try Sweet Creek , it worked with me
What are the pipes going into the cylinders?
They are the pipes that carry lubricating steam oil to the cylinders
where i can buy this pls ? this is my dream !
Merlin was hand built by the owner but there are several companies that sell live steamers , even second hand ones are available .
Thanks you very much ! Do you have any company names to give me?, thanks@@johnphillips592
