At Cannon Ranch, we're proud to present three Hereford bulls we recently purchased from Shaw Cattle Co. The superior traits these bulls hold are not just numbers to us; they represent our commitment to enhancing the overall quality of our herd.
Leveraging advanced DNA testing, we meticulously select bulls that carry the precise genetic makeup necessary for elevating our herd's performance and productivity. This technology allows us to pinpoint the genetic champions that will lead the next generation of our cattle.
Our breeding strategy is a thoughtful blend of tradition and innovation. By cross-breeding our top-tier Hereford bulls with select Angus cows, we aim to produce offspring that inherit the best from both breeds. This crossbreeding is crucial for improving milk production, energy levels, and carcass quality in the resulting calves, ensuring that our cattle meet the highest standards of excellence.
At the heart of our operation is a large-scale breeding program that encompasses over 2200 cows across the ranch. With more than 100 carefully chosen bulls, we strive to disseminate elite genetics across our entire herd, focusing our efforts on about 200 to 300 cows to maximize the impact of these superior genetic lines.
