Hey all! Here's some quick and dirty thoughts on the new Thieves Tactica introduced since that game happened WAY after I made this video lol. Spoilers ahead! So Toshiro and Erina are... odd. To be frank, I did not like Toshiro's vibe at all during the first Kingdom and getting to the second Kingdom and realizing the entire game focuses on him kinda soured the whole thing for me. His storyline isn't BAD, I just think a great strength of most RPGs is that they don't center their entire story on one character, there's a whole party to bounce between with intertwined narratives. So, when Tactica is just 20 hours of this spineless politician's backstory, I get BORED. Especially since all of the OG cast get very little to do story-wise. Erina is... marginally better. Once I fully realized she was just a Metaverse being and had no influence on the real world, I kinda lost investment in her too. And I know, the game makes a big deal out of her being real in the "important ways" or whatever, but that is some Data-Sora ass logic that I do not care for. But at least she was generally more fun to be around and was a solid unit (playable Toshiro was kinda annoying as hell). As far as ranking them, I'd put them in the #12 spot, knocking the previous #12 down to #14. I'd rank Erina above Toshiro so Toshiro's #13 and Erina's #12. Ultimately, I'm kinda glad I made my video before these two existed because it would have made the video more negative than it already was at parts and these two miss out on a lot of Phantom Thief staples. They don't really feel as integrated as the Strikers characters did. They don't get codenames or alternate outfits, Toshiro doesn't have any weapons besides his Persona, Erina technically doesn't even have a Persona, and I don't think the OG Thieves ever acknowledge them as Phantom Thieves lol. I'd still say Tactica was overall a good game, but it definitely did not reach the heights of the original or Strikers, both of which totally blew my expectations out of the water. Maybe that's an unfair comparison, but idk, Strikers spoiled my ass into thinking these spin-offs would all be insanely high quality and Tactica was very much not that.
Just a small note but I like how in Strikers they weren't afraid to touch upon some of the flaws in vanilla P5 and polish it/wrap it up in a sense. The whole Ryuji Morgana but in Okumura's palace was definitely annoying but the little moments the two had in Strikers was pretty satisfying. With Ryuji now rushing to defend Morgana and vice versa.
after playing strikers and royal, and i don’t know how i stumbled into this, but this is a really good list! you also encapsulated how i feel about yoshizawa perfectly, especially the really gratuitous plot twist that she was pretending to be her sister was really unnecessary when her imposter syndrome would’ve been a solid arc on its own anyway (though how clumsily she was integrated leaves doubts tbh). i will fight you on zenkichi tho /j
It’s a little ironic that the two characters that I put the LEAST time and energy into on my one playthrough of P5R was Yusuke and Futaba. If and when I do replay it, I’ll dedicate time to actually finishing out their social link stories.
Interesting list, hard disagree on a lot of the rankings but for the most part you justify their placements. Here's my list: 12. Ann 11. Sophia 10. Morgana 9. Futaba 8. Joker 7. Haru 6. Sumire 5. Akechi 4. Yusuke 3. Zenkichi 2. Ryuji 1. Makoto
if you want some more awsome characters go play your turn to die death game by majority it's a visual novel where the gameplay seemlisly transition into the story and characters that are so good.
