  • In the video I unbox and explain the new limited special edition of the Leica Summicron-M 28mm f/2 ASPH. ("matt black paint finish") with light-green engravings. This new Leica-M lens is limited to 450pcs world-wide and is the perfect companion for the new Leica M11 in black but also for the Leica M10-P Reporter and many other Leica Rangefinder cameras. Leica also special-mentions the extra robust construction of the lens.

    Only bought my Summicron M 28mm 6 weeks ago, if I had known this was coming would have waited.. I like the built in lens hood & guess it obscures lessen the rangefinder window. Still happy with what I have on my M11.

      Don't worry, Peter. Its the same lens basically, and the run for these 450pcs will be annoying. The built-in lens hood though is a really cool feature, like that a lot.

    I'm still happy with my 28mm Sumicron from 2001. But if I find one of these, who knows? It would go well with the black M11. Thanks for posting this.

      Yes - matches very well with the black M11 as shown.

    I found a source for this lens at roughly 30% above the normal version. Think I will get it for my M10-D and M10-M because if its unique stealth look for street photography, and also since I had chosen only the 50 mm Summicron lens to pair with my M-10P Safari.

    • @michaelascher2693

      I am also interested in this information. Do you know if the lens will brass with some age? I think the fist design of that lens was the Drifter Kravitz Edt. and this was brass. Would be nice to have this Information.

      @@michaelascher2693 This lens weighs 266 g with the integrated lens hood as compared to the normal one with 257 g. The information on the Leica website showing 257 g for this one as well is not correct.

      I don't think it will brass to be honest. This painting/finish looks to me like being the same forever. Other lenses from Leica will brass, this one highly likely not.

    It was originally designed to pair with the M10-P Reporter (450 units, light green font, matte black to match the dials on the Reporter)

      Yes - and I mentioned it in the video and also show the M10-P Reporter in the video. It really well matches the Reporter.

    Thanks a lot ... since you have all these systems ... can you maybe showcase how adapting M lenses or the Otus on the X1D fills the image circle and to which extent the image is sharp beyond the 35mm frame? I think it would be instructive to see how for example the Apo 35 M or your SX 90 fare on the X1D. I think there are adapters available for this combo ... Understand the full sensor is covered, albeit with some vignetting and the question is if you correct it in software, how much more is useable .... and if it is all blurry, it can still be nice to see how a 90 1.5 looks on a large sensor for a portrait situation ...

    • @mathphotographer
      @mathphotographer  2 года назад

      Hi Pablo, yes I can look into M-lenses on the X1DII, no issue. Need to see where it fits into my video pipeline but I have all here I need for this. Shooting the Zeiss Otus on the Hasselblad-X is a fantastic idea, will definitely consider.

    • @Pablo-px3ct
      @Pablo-px3ct 2 года назад

      @@mathphotographer I think on the M front the Apo Ms cover the X1D with some vignetting, but also the Summilux 50, 90 and Noct 75. I think the S4 in 2024 will be mirrorless 100 MPX like the X1D III, so I suppose Leica could implement a special extended crop mode when adapting M lenses -> ie a bit more than 35mm. I also saw on Flickr someone posting the APO 35 M on the X1D saying it is a fantastic combo with just a bit vignetting. The question however is to what extent we get sharpness which is acceptable if we go beyond the intended IC ... the Otus 85 and 100 have been tested on the X1D on youtube, but have not seen someone posting the 28mm on it ... which would make for a fantastic wide angle option! Thanks a lot, your Monochrom video was helpful in my decision to not sell it in view of getting a colour M ... all the best also from Zurich, Pablo

      Good suggestion Bassam. I might come to that, Leica offered me to lend an S3 to me for a couple of weeks. Let's see if it materializes but I like your proposal a lot, would be a very interesting comparison.

    • @RolandAyala

      I have an M11 and S3. No contest. S3 w/ S lenses has overall superior IQ. It's not the sort of thing that will show up in a test chart -- get the SL2 w/ SL 50/75 APOs if after that -- but there's a richness of colors and "depth" of pixels out of the S3 that makes the camera stand out to just about anything else on the market (incl. the M11). I keep looking for reasons to sell the S3 because big, heavy, and future roadmap is uncertain (i.e., will there be an S4?), but everytime I shoot the camera I'm reminded how great the camera is and any such reasons flow out the window.

    like 5,000 dollars extra than the original one. I get it, it's limited edition, but how ridiculous to the point of hilarity. For a built in lens hood and some green paint.
