    I think it has to do with the transition of the battling style shifting from a static RPG-like background to a more open world atmosphere. It's a shame the quality of the special effects drops down a lot, but it's common with open world games, I believe.

    because Scarlet and Violet focus on the open world aspect so less effort was put into the animations, also because of the open world camera angle , some of these animations would break the game

    It’s because they spent more time on the animations of open world Pokémon. It’s the same reason swsh and ScarVi don’t have a national dex, it would be too buggy.

    The best way I could describe this is:
    Just because I play with battle animations off doesn't mean everyone should. And I still turn them on for big battles.

    Probably because the transition from overworld to battle (and vice versa) has become a lot more smooth.

      SV is also designed so that you can WTACH UNION CIRCLE BATTLES as they happen animations need to be simpler, visible and not constantly spawning loads of new actors in a world already running high on them.
      Preventing desyncs and minimizing lag is the reason here.

      Biggest cop out in history.... If overworld was the cause if many issues than why even do it to begin with? And if they just had to do it then why not perfect it or even do it competently? The ground disappears every battle and trainers and Pokemon walk into the battle animations all the time...But they just had to make animations worse just so the random Pikachu can wander onto the battle stage and phase through all the attacks.... then the floor isn't there any more.....mmmmmm so smooth

    Signature moves ALWAYS look better in the debut generation, bc they are the stars of the show. Other moves are the stars of the show in these games. It wld be great if each and every move could have a badass animation, but i would love for them to focus on the overall graphics and gameplay first.

    Looks fine to me. At least Ray's moving like he's actually ascending in SV instead of just sliding the idle model upwards like SWSH

    While these animations are cool in scarlet and violet and are better in sw/sh that is because SV is still taking place in the overworld and the devs didn't want to make a whole seperate form of overworld for the battles which would be a pain in the arse to do for each seperate location and still keep the pokemon loaded in so that you can see the animations for each sig.move

    Because you can't skip attack animations in Scarlet and Violet. Also the fights take place in the overworld, meaning attacks with complex camera movement could clip through stuff in the background. (Granted this didn't stop the camera from doing that anyways.)

    Tbh tho. SwSh animations went kinda hard but still pale in comparison to some of the ds and 3ds animations

    because s&V was awful. everyone is hating on sword and shield, but honestly, its the goat compared to gen 9.

    it's becose now we can move the camera when in battle, sure animations are looking worse but it had to be done i belive, unless gamefreak will find a way to include both somehow

      No, it's just that they can't do transitions like that when battles are in the overworld, and not a separate area, so it isn't easy to just cut to a different place for the attack animation.

      Basically, in sword and shield battles were just taking place in a small box, but in scarlet and violet, they're still in an open world. That's the reason, not "lazyness"
