When I was 14, I wanted to commit suicide. I wanted to end it all. I had and still do have, intense anxiety and depression and hated everything about myself. I tried to commit suicide. I wanted it all to end. A song was playing by my favorite artist, Porter Robinson. Fellow Feeling. I remember I put the gun down. And I listened and listened to the violins. I remember how at peace I felt. I promised myself I would live long enough to see Porter live. I fought through years of intense anxiety and depression and suicidal thoughts. Shelter came along and made me feel like his music would always be here for me. It made me feel happy to be alive. That all I did and went through was worth it. Fast forward to today, and I saw Porter live. I fulfilled my promise to myself. And I'm alive. I heard Shelter live and Fellow Feeling live as well. And I cried my eyes out. I felt as if my life led all the way to this moment. I do mean it when I say that Porter and his music saved my life. Shelter and Fellow Feeling will forever be stark reminders of how far I've come and how strong I am. Thank you Porter. I can never repay you for all you've done for me, unintentionally, yes. But you impacted me in a way no other artist has. Thank you.
Update: My girlfriend and I have decided to dance to this at our wedding. For her because every time she hears this song, it helps her think of all the late night drive homes after dates and adventures and makes her happy.
For me, it's for me to remember to keep moving forward. That this is a new beginning and I want that new beginning to start with a song that inspired me to keep moving forward. I can't help crying listening to this song.

TRIVIA: The piano version was based on another version of original Shelter that was made especially for A1, the animation studio behind the MV of the song, but was later scrapped.
It's not really scrapped imo. It's simply a demo made for A1, so maybe that they can imagine what's the music video like. That version is basically just an early version of Shelter, before being developed into a full song.

This song reminds me to time when I discovered a music video of "Shelter"; 2019. The time when I graduated from high school, so I was saying goodbye to life I was known for 12 years and welcome to adult life.
Many thing has changed since then though, and this song helped me to evaluated myself about " How far I go since then". For now I barely made a progress in the last 4 years, yet I don't give up. I don't live in the past, I'm living in the present and hopefully will live in the future.
Nobody know when, where, and how their time will come. Still, before that happen, let's do anything good and leave no regrets.
