Love the concept of collecting pinhole cards. The original owner loved the player so much he wanted to display it on a regular basis. Condition was not a priority in those days but to have it displayed was. Always makes me smile. Great job Mook!
Coach, you summed it up perfectly! I’m so glad you appreciate the spirit. Thank you for your kind words!
The "pinhole parallels" at the beginning were all fantastic Mookie, and for a moment you had me fooled that maybe you had the ultra-rare "dartboard parallel" on that Gibson 🤣 I learned so much in this episode about Larry Doby, just fantastic. How amazing is that that the fans and community paid off the guy's home? You had me grinning ear to ear throughout this entire installment, pal. Just an AMAZING autograph to top it all off. A+ as usual!
my *favorite* thing about this hobby is finding the awesome nooks and crannies of baseball history… as you know quite well!! thanks, pal. I really appreciate it.
AMAZING Doby coverage here Mook, and that autograph.. time-stamped, on SUCH an iconic image.. bravo sir! 👏
My “what would Iconic do?” method of curation is finally paying off! Thanks Al, I appreciate that very much!!
Nuny nuny boo boo John!!! That’s right Mookie, show him what’s up! The wolfman variation is sweet, always love seeing it! Thanks for the VR, you’re in!
Hahaha thanks Theo! Maybe if I win that Clemente I’ll draw a beard on him.
@@mookiechillson LOL
Great Larry Doby autograph, as soon as you brought out the first 71 Seaver, I was waiting for the wolf man. Great every time
Hahaha I’m nothing if not predictable! Thanks Allen, I always appreciate your kind words!
Love your channel Mookie! Great Gil Hodges! Still love the Willie 54 too! Cool looking Babe Ruth BIG card too! Sweet Doby pic up!!!!
I’m blushing!! Thanks, pal. I appreciate all of your kind words and support!
Gave a video like. Great '54 Mays cards! The Doby post card is really cool! Thanks for sharing
Thanks Brian! I can’t stop collecting your namesake!!
@@mookiechillson LOL Good on you, Mookie!
Beauty of a Hodges there! And, I always love to see the Chillson pinhole variations. Enjoyed the Story around Doby as I had not heard that one! Excellent stuff!
Thanks Peeps! I’m glad you enjoyed it!!
Wow, not at all a dubious auto, but rather an absolutely glorious Doby-ous auto! PLUS, Mookie Wall of Fame worthy! 🤯🤯🤯 The postcard with dated postal stamp from 1955, as well as hand written name and address just really add to the historical and nostalgic appeal! Congrats, my collecting brother! Also, so cool Graig "brokered" your Hodges RC purchase! PLUS PLUS, a bonus Hodges RC for the Mookie Wall of Fame! 🤯🤯🤯
Adam. my collecting brother, this is a truly glorious comment! Larry Doby addressed that postcard to young Robert himself!! Could you imagine that happening today? I’m so glad you watched and enjoyed from your perch in the sanctuary!
Mookie Minutes are genuinely the best thing on RUclips. I always learn so much, and love the investigative reporting.
Agree on the Gibson. It was well loved and not a dart board card, for sure.
I’m blushing, pal!! Thanks so much - I thought you’d get a kick out of that story!
I am definitely most jealous of your 1/1 Seaver. The Mays cards are pretty great, too.
The Doby post card is an amazing addition.
Thanks John!! I took no joy executing Theo’s hit - but it just had to be done
Awesome video as always & loved learning about Doby playing under a different name. Fantastic cards too but you already know that, that’s why you have them. 😁
Thank you, Doug! This was a fun one to do - and I'm happy to share some stories about Larry!
I wish sometime would burn my mortgage. So glad you picked up that postcard. Super rad!
Thanks for the guidance on it, pal! It took me a while to get the seller to show me the back of the card. The 1955 postmark and the pinholes sealed the deal.
Cheers and great video and collecting idea! It's nice to know there is another sports card collector residing in the greatest state east of Hawaii.
Aloha!! It’s so great to know you’re here and enjoying! Do you follow Dylan’s channel? He’s the Hawaiian king of cardboard! And super fun!
@@mookiechillson Hi again, So I failed in my efforts to share that my home state is also the Great Garden State. Cheers and howdy neighbor
I enjoyed ur mookie minute 👏💃💃💃 I love learning about players
That’s very kind of you! I appreciate it very much!
Great video and an awesome Doby story
Thanks Orlando! We have major Doby pride here in the Garden State!
Great backstory on the Larry Doby photo. I had seen it before but didn’t know what was happening. One of my closest friends is from Paterson and his cousin is the mayor, Andre Sayegh, who helped get Hinchcliffe Stadium renovated and is also a Mets fan. My friend is not a baseball fan but we’ve talked about Hinchcliffe Stadium and about Larry Doby making his pro debut there. Best conversation I’ve had with him 😄 but it’s pretty cool that his cousin is as big a fan of Doby as the then mayor in the photo. Great video, Mookie
I’ve actually met the Mayor before! He is a HUGE Mets fan!! And that’s so cool about your friend! I’ve been to Hinchcliffe stadium a few times. It’s wild that it’s still there - the NJ jackals independent league team play there now. I know Paterson was hoping MLB would play a game there now that it’s been renovated, but I don’t know about that. Now you have to come shoot an episode up here, Hugo!!!
@@mookiechillsonthat’s cool that you’ve met the mayor. I haven’t met him yet but I was supposed to officiate a wedding of one of his family members a few years ago that was canceled. I’m seeing my friend this week so I’m going to strike up a conversation about this again. I can’t wait to visit Hinchcliffe someday. I think it would be great for MLB to play a game there. Next week they’ll play at Rickwood so maybe they’ll continue the Field of Dreams games throughout the country.
Fantastic cards and fun video. Take care
Thanks so much - I appreciate the kind words!
Came by way of a GodIsGreat shout out. Subbed and liked. I will say that the Gibson is definitely well used or loved lol. The wolfman Seaver is classic. Thanks for sharing.
That’s super cool! Thanks for the kind words and for the sub! I really appreciate it!
Love the 1949 Hodges - both of them!
Thanks Mark! They're some of the favorite in my collection for sure!
Mookie another excellent video. You make collecting fun I love it !! I need to adda Hodges RC the dude has always been one of my favorite players to read about. Love the Mays 54 its such an epic card and so affordable its crazy. 👊🤙🤙
I'll help you hunt for Hodges in Cleveland, dude!! Thanks Dylan - I really appreciate it
I love the Hodges rookie. The blue and red just pop. I had one once and ended up selling it up in a huge lot when I downsized my collection. It’s one of the few cards I wish I kept. Maybe one will be waiting for me in Cleveland.
Great “in your face” cards for Theo too.
Gil was a special man! Thanks Drew - it was a treat for me to be on Theo’s live stream with you last night. I really admire your style and how you approach things. Thank you for watching my nonsense!
Awesome my friend
Thanks GIG! I appreciate it!
@@mookiechillson you are on my shoutout
Great stuff Mook! I’m guessing the original Gibson owner was a Tigers fan!
Hahaha good theory!! Thanks BK!
that gibson doesn't look like it has a pinhole from being on a bulletin board, more like a DART board! but some beautiful cards all the same. i wish i had more Brooklyn Dodgers cards from the 50s! thanks for sharing!
Thanks for the kind words, Troy! I’m so glad you enjoyed!
I never thought I would run into someone that would be able to present a pinhole card as if it were a Michelangelo. You're in NY/NJ. Aren't you suppose to say "Theo commissioned a hobby whack?" Instead of a hobby hit... lol I enjoyed the Doby backstory. I had no idea he had played under a different name.
You know, I can’t believe I’m still picking up those pinholes, but I really do enjoy it! And you’re right - I would make a terrible gangster.
