My neighbor, who lives across the street, has a Harris sign out on his front lawn. We have been having windy weather and the sign bent all the way forward. I was going to go over with some stakes to reenforce the wire posts so it would stop flopping around. My neighbor came home and just re-adjusted the sign so it was up again. I live a small town in Indiana and this is the first time that I have seen no signs of either candidates on the street. No Trump or Harris signs at all! It's as if people of both parties are afraid to show who they are for, fearing retaliation. Back in 2020 there were Trump signs everywhere.
The signs are around $20-30 and after an angry loser destroys 2 or 3 of them, it gets tiring to buy new ones. I'll just vote and hope there isn't another 3am win

There are 2 types of floridians. The ones who lived here without a storm, and the ones who have been through a storm. The former always fall prey to the over hype while the latter only worry about storm surge if they're below it.

St Pete here. Wind took out a lot of the older tress everywhere. The biggest damage though was the record storm surge. Folks with houses completely submerged..
I live have lived in Central Florida for 2 1/2 years now. What I've learned about hurricanes is they are almost always never as bad as the hype. You don't realize that until you live here and experience one. For hurricane Ian in 2022 I bought a camper grill with 4 bottles of extra fuel , 2 week emergency food supply, 5 gallons of water and then filled everything i could find with water. Ended up not having power for about 8 hrs. For Milton I bought a 40 pack of water, froze half of it and used those frozen bottles to keep my perishables cold until I got power back (about 24 hrs).
Living in coastal NC, we've had plenty of hurricanes. You learn to deal with them, and not freak out. Plus, you get days and days to prepare for them, unlike tornados. You also learn that the weather channel people (looking at you Jim Cantore) LIVE for the drama of a hurricane! Cantore is kind of a joke around here. Moving here from Wyoming, I get worried calls from family and friends there. "Are you okay? Aren't you supposed to evacuate? etc." I always tell them to not watch the weather channel. (Btw, the awfulness in Western NC is a completely different ball of wax.)
In phoenix area the wally world on power and southern ran completely out of toilet paper. All the shelves were empty. I thought, "Oh great the idiots are back" 😅😂😅😂😅😂

In 2020 I just happened to see a video talking about shortages in Venezuela and how TP was the first thing to go. A week later they started the lockdowns. I was like those guys in the video, getting mega-packs from Walmart. Everyone else but me ran out of TP. I have no idea how they got by. If there's ever another anything, I'm hoarding TP. It's not like I'm never going to use it and I'm wasting money. It's kinda convenient always having extra in the house. The moral is, you need to factor in the stupidity of others. Worked in a paper plant for a major manufacturer. There never was a shortage of TP or paper towels. Fake Demand caused the shortages and our warehouse was always full. But hey thanks for the 25% additional volume. Our bottom line and profit went way up.
I'm a Floridian from Miami. Milton was hyped up even for our area from official channels even though we were basically as far as we could be from Milton while being part of Florida. Days leading up to landfall they predicted SEVERE flooding, SEVERE rainfall, and SEVERE winds. Every day the predictions got less and less dramatized until we finally got the max we would from Milton and we got 0 flooding, negligible rainfall ,and mild winds. We had more rain days before Milton was near and we are getting winds just as "bad" as what we got from Milton right now as a coldfront is hitting us. The climate people just got excited they finally got another bad hurricane so they just blew their load on the predictions. As for the rest of Florida, that's normal behavior to mess around during the storm no matter how bad it is. We get hurricanes every year and we are built to take them so we are just used to it all and decide to have some fun during stressful times. Once during Irma, I saw a dude doing wheelies on his 4 wheeler down the empty streets mid hurricane as a fence was blown off just minutes before he passed by. Don't ask what I was doing outside at the time either.
But those of us that were closer to direct hit got it bad!!!!! For once it wasnt miami but central western florida got major flooding and our beaches ARE WASHED AWAY
My math teachers thought I was cheating or needed a calculator cause I wouldn't show my work... until High school when a teacher woke me up, asked me to solve the next problem and I did it in my head. She let me sleep in class after that as long as I kept passing tests. I took two more classes with her, one was advanced algebra and Trigonometry as an elective my senior year. Most teachers cant admit they were wrong, not even to themselves.
It's because they have to teach to _BOTH_ sides of the IQ bell-curve. A lot of the policies and practices that they use are because of their non-stop run-ins with the left side of that curve. Credit to your teacher for recognizing she was dealing with a "right-side-of-the-curve" individual and letting you be.
When I was in 7th grade my math teacher accused me of using a calculator in class. I told him I didn't even own one his response was "oh yeah I forgot how poor you are." I said "wtf bro" and he kicked me in the shin. School is a joke and has been at least since I went through it.

I still never learned my times tables, maybe 50% of them memorized the rest I just multiply in my head, I had to multiply 7x12 just yesterday and I did it by doing 7x10+7x2 in my head. Difference is that's how I learned to do math in my head, and it was always correct albeit slower than memorization... hence the school being wrong about me being dumb... I was doing actual math almost as quickly as the kids who had it memorized. Edit: I am not a supporter of Common Core math... I know from experience every single person I ever did homework with thinks I'm making it way harder.
Zed, I chased hurricanes doing communications work for nearly a decade. This storm didn't seem as as they said it would be, because Florida knows how to handle a storm.... They don't rely on outside entities to manage the aftermath.
That was a good memory...I'm 78 and when I was in elementary school, McDonalds had that kind of patty. OK so they were only 10 cents so a meal was 6 burgers, but still...
The Florida hurricane was WORSE than the one that ravaged the southeast... but Florida is built for surviving Huricanes like that and people in the woods of North and South Carolina aren't built for floods and 100+MPH winds. The trees there aren't built for it either. Basically, we are really lucky those two Hurricanes didn't swap paths cause the damage could have been 5x worse.
The real problem was that it rained for 36+ hours before the hurricane even arrived. The ground was already saturated. I lost trees before it even got windy...8 hours before the hurricane. The storm passed by, the hurricane blew those same storms right back over us, THEN the hurricane rain hit. Florida being low and flat means it is prone to flooding...but there is lots of area for that water to spread out. In more mountainous terrain, all that water is concentrated in narrow rocky valleys that cannot absorb much water and with high potential energy of elevation to flow downhill. Also, there are hills that can flow downhill whereas Florida is already more or less flat wetlands built to absorb and dissipate surface water.
They volunteered to be sent to the front lines, and the Russian commanders thought they were maniacs, and were like; "Yeah guys, have at it!" and then without firing a single shot, they surrendered to the Ukranians so they could get asylum in Europe.

When I was a kid, we used those big brown paper bags for groceries. So we had to make a shit ton of trips to bring in the groceries. Most you could carry is two bags. 😂

My store manager made sure our store was the only store to have an iver abundance of it. North port here. Ian did 200 dollars of damage to my home... Couple pieces of doctor took off. Milton put a 2 inch hole in my roof that I fixed the next day. Irma (when I lived in the keys) actually made me evacuate to ft Lauderdale to a friends house due to living on a floating house... Wilma (when I lived in palm beach) did 50k in damages... My wife watches all the weather channels for.days until we lose power then.she grabs her phone to keep watching. As for me I love the hurricanes because it makes me have to buy new tools lol. And I live on a canal that leads to the gulf.. But not in a flood zone. Only one of 11 houses in my area can say that. Water would have to rise 15 feet to make it to the back porch. Then another 8 inches till inside the house. Also the air is so clean after the storm is over I love it!!!

My neighbor, who lives across the street, has a Harris sign out on his front lawn. We have been having windy weather and the sign bent all the way forward. I was going to go over with some stakes to reenforce the wire posts so it would stop flopping around. My neighbor came home and just re-adjusted the sign so it was up again. Who he wants to vote for is his right. I don't agree with his choice but that is my right. To destroy property because you disagree is stupid. Besides, I'm still hoping it's a Halloween decoration in which I would give him the "Scariest Decoration" award.

I live a small town in Indiana and this is the first time that I have seen no signs of either candidates on the street. No Trump or Harris signs at all! It's as if people of both parties are afraid to show who they are for, fearing retaliation. Back in 2020 there were Trump signs everywhere.

I live have lived in Central Florida for 2 1/2 years now. What I've learned about hurricanes is they are almost always never as bad as the hype. You don't realize that until you live here and experience one. For hurricane Ian in 2022 I bought a camper grill with 4 bottles of extra fuel , 2 week emergency food supply, 5 gallons of water and then filled everything i could find with water. Ended up not having power for about 8 hrs. For Milton I bought a 40 pack of water, froze half of it and used those frozen bottles to keep my perishables cold until I got power back (about 24 hrs).

Living in coastal NC, we've had plenty of hurricanes. You learn to deal with them, and not freak out. Plus, you get days and days to prepare for them, unlike tornados. You also learn that the weather channel people (looking at you Jim Cantore) LIVE for the drama of a hurricane! Cantore is kind of a joke around here. Moving here from Wyoming, I get worried calls from family and friends there. "Are you okay? Aren't you supposed to evacuate? etc." I always tell them to not watch the weather channel. (Btw, the awfulness in Western NC is a completely different ball of wax.)

I'm a Floridian from Miami. Milton was hyped up even for our area from official channels even though we were basically as far as we could be from Milton while being part of Florida. Days leading up to landfall they predicted SEVERE flooding, SEVERE rainfall, and SEVERE winds. Every day the predictions got less and less dramatized until we finally got the max we would from Milton and we got 0 flooding, negligible rainfall ,and mild winds. We had more rain days before Milton was near and we are getting winds just as "bad" as what we got from Milton right now as a coldfront is hitting us. The climate people just got excited they finally got another bad hurricane so they just blew their load on the predictions.
As for the rest of Florida, that's normal behavior to mess around during the storm no matter how bad it is. We get hurricanes every year and we are built to take them so we are just used to it all and decide to have some fun during stressful times. Once during Irma, I saw a dude doing wheelies on his 4 wheeler down the empty streets mid hurricane as a fence was blown off just minutes before he passed by. Don't ask what I was doing outside at the time either.

She let me sleep in class after that as long as I kept passing tests. I took two more classes with her, one was advanced algebra and Trigonometry as an elective my senior year. Most teachers cant admit they were wrong, not even to themselves.

Zed, I chased hurricanes doing communications work for nearly a decade. This storm didn't seem as as they said it would be, because Florida knows how to handle a storm.... They don't rely on outside entities to manage the aftermath.

The Florida hurricane was WORSE than the one that ravaged the southeast... but Florida is built for surviving Huricanes like that and people in the woods of North and South Carolina aren't built for floods and 100+MPH winds. The trees there aren't built for it either.
Basically, we are really lucky those two Hurricanes didn't swap paths cause the damage could have been 5x worse.
The real problem was that it rained for 36+ hours before the hurricane even arrived. The ground was already saturated. I lost trees before it even got windy...8 hours before the hurricane. The storm passed by, the hurricane blew those same storms right back over us, THEN the hurricane rain hit.
Florida being low and flat means it is prone to flooding...but there is lots of area for that water to spread out. In more mountainous terrain, all that water is concentrated in narrow rocky valleys that cannot absorb much water and with high potential energy of elevation to flow downhill. Also, there are hills that can flow downhill whereas Florida is already more or less flat wetlands built to absorb and dissipate surface water.

Boynton Beach, Florida here. Fuck the media. Even though I wasn't in the cone they still hyped it up for us in PB County. I work for Publix and we sold water like there was no tomorrow. My store manager made sure our store was the only store to have an iver abundance of it. When every other store was out kf water we were still carrying some because of how much water he had delivered to kur store

Milton put a 2 inch hole in my roof that I fixed the next day.
Irma (when I lived in the keys) actually made me evacuate to ft Lauderdale to a friends house due to living on a floating house...
Wilma (when I lived in palm beach) did 50k in damages...
My wife watches all the weather channels for.days until we lose power then.she grabs her phone to keep watching.
As for me I love the hurricanes because it makes me have to buy new tools lol.
And I live on a canal that leads to the gulf.. But not in a flood zone. Only one of 11 houses in my area can say that. Water would have to rise 15 feet to make it to the back porch. Then another 8 inches till inside the house.
Also the air is so clean after the storm is over I love it!!!

The funny thing about America locking up products in shops is there are often things like sun cream & work ties & skin creams in certain beige shades that don’t tend to need locking while hair cream loose pants Afro products etc are the first to be locked up..I can’t figure out why.

why? the computer is far less likely to get your order wrong. I enjoy not having to deal with idiots, as long as the computer only wants to know what I want to order, with my cash in hand. when they start demanding personal information, then we have a problem!
