I love this show so much. I remember watching it live every Sunday, and to this day I still rewatch it every few months. This show had sm potential, what a waste to cancel it so soon
Falls flat? If you grew up in the 70s, you'd get it. We were bummed when it didn't get renewed. Hollywood sucks! Their too much like the R&R HOF. Ya'll missed the boat.
Okay, so 2 things. One, as a former security guard for a lot of concert venues in Philadelphia, I really did enjoy this show. I thought it provided a lot of great music (Tom Petty's cover of "Sweet William" is officially on my life soundtrack), was realistic in showing how concerts are put together before the fans get together, how no two venues are the same, and some really cool cameos by awesome artists. Secondly, there are many great shows whose first seasons just sucked and dragged on, but picked up in the second season.
This series was so good. Such a massive shame it was cancelled. Captured a mood of an era, and I was invested in the two main romances. Interesting ensemble cast with well drawn characters. Decent music too. What's not to like?
Based on your assessment it' pretty obvious you are not a musician, and are not familiar with this world. I have been a working, touring musician for over 40 years. The stories are dramatized, yes, but not that far off. What you missed is the bond that these people share by being part of something larger than themselves. I've never seen anyone do this kind of work who, at their core, didn't truly love music and the spiritual aspect of helping create it, whatever their contribution might be. That is what Cameron Crowe expertly captured. There are inside jokes that you would never catch unless you've been there, like the unspoken rules of living on a bus. I think the series failed for one simple reason; it had a narrow appeal. But if you ever lived this life, it was highly entertaining to watch. There was love in this production, and I regret that it didn't get a second chance.
I respect your opinion and I’m glad you enjoyed the show but having lived the life of a series should never be prerequisite to viewing anything. It should only enhance your viewing without being detracting to others. Almost Famous doesn’t have this issue at all like stated in the video and it’s very clear Crowes opinions and feelings on the industry have drastically changed and has become very out of touch. As someone who has spent past 10 years working not in music but film/tv production. I do know that this comradely and passionate exists, but unfortunately in the series this does not come off as real or true in anyway mostly due to its poor writing and execution and reliance on cameos of the week instead of actually being about the people who love what they do. There are countless series we all watch every day about jobs we have never been remotely near. And the ones that are successful are so because you don’t need to read a textbook or work in the field in order to properly enjoy it. If any of what you said actually came off on the screen we wouldn’t be having this conversation but in order to have that effect you have to like you said live this life for over 40 years. Which in my opinion would make this a bad series and one of the many reasons it was a spectacular failure and why Crowe hasn’t made a new movie or tv show in over 7 years.
I thought the show figured out what it wanted to be by the Skynard episode, which read to me like a spiritual sequel to Almost Famous that was inspired by Big Fish; but it was too late by then, and I thought they messed up potential future storylines they could have had when the killed Ron White’s character. The series had potential, though.
I just binged all 10 episodes for the first time ever a few days ago, and maybe it was because I was feeling pretty low during those days, but to me this came off as a really heartfelt show. I loved it. I do agree that Luke & Carla's sidestory was the weakest point, but there wasn't much else to complain about. Even learned about a couple songs and artists I had never heard before, so that's always a plus.
I had just seen Almost Famous for the very first time a few months prior to this show's release, and instantly became one of my all time favourites. So when I heard that Cameron Crowe was making a show like that, I was ecstatic. Unfortunately, the show let me down. The characters felt hollow, lacking any motivation; the pacing was sluggish with awkward humour that never lands. Could barely sit through the first episode.
Roadies and Vinyl were so god damn good and I miss them a shit ton. They're not made for film buffs. They're for fans of music. Maybe that's why you got nothing from it

I actually enjoyed it quite a bit
Beyond pissed it didn’t make it LOVED THIS SHOW

Rainn Wilson also played an unrealistic critic on entourage.

Loved Elizabeth Town and am 4 episodes in and am loving it
Loved this show…this reviewer seems to enjoy listening to his own voice…I do not

Crowe is right, todays music sucks
I really liked this show. Also, I loved "I'm dying up here."
Loved this show.
I enjoyed Roadies. 😢
Aloha wasn't that bad!
Notice how you never said it was good
@@LetMeBeCritic Lol can't argue with that. It's not amazing, but not as bad as other things 😬
I wish Roadies manifested its potential
Was a good show and could have been great
Anyone ever see your average female roadie or stage tech in real life?
Um, they don't look like the girls in this show.
Thought this was a really good show…. Mad it didn’t go another season….
